RESUMO

We studied the effects of regional lymphotropic immunostimulating therapy on alterations in immunoglobulins levels both in blood serum and paranasal sinuses mucosal secretion in patients with acute and chronic purulent sinusitis. Solutions of tactivin, lidase and novocain were administered into the area of the submaxillary lymph nodes. The effect was compared to that obtained after subcutaneous administration of tactivin and conventional therapy. No reliable alterations in systemic humoral immunity in response to lymphotropic immunostimulating therapy was reported in acute sinusitis, while in chronic sinusitis an increase in initially low IgA occurred. Regional lymphotropic administration of tactivin promoted a pronounced decrease in the initially elevated levels of SIgA, IgA and IgG in the secretion of paranasal mucosa in acute purulent sinusitis, and an increase of basaline lowered SIgA, a fall in the IgG concentration in chronic purulent sinusitis. This is indicative of effectiveness of this method of immunostimulator administration on local immunological reactivity of the mucous membrane.

RESUMO

Lipid peroxidation (LPO) was measured in 84 children with pyoinflammatory diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses (the study group) against 50 healthy subjects (the control group). LPO in the two groups was found different (the difference was statistically significant). Defects in LPO entail homeostatic disorders and indirectly cause impairment of oxidation-reduction processes. The efficacy of the conventional therapeutic measures can be improved by addition to the standard combined treatment of metabolic correctors which noticeably reduce possibility of the acute process transformation into chronic. Recurrences become less probable.

RESUMO

The analysis of 1247 case histories of chronic tonsillitis and peritonsillar abscesses of tonsillogenic origin has shown that annual number of tonsillectomies for chronic tonsillitis is decreasing while the number of patients with peritonsillar abscesses is going up. The tendency is explained by several factors, among them overestimation of the efficacy reached with conservative therapy of chronic tonsillitis. The authors promote wider use of tonsillectomy as an effective preventive tool for peritonsillar abscesses. The latter should be more frequently managed with abscess tonsillectomy.

RESUMO

In experiments on rats it has been demonstrated that in the acute period of uninjured parts of the lungs periodic changes of protein, lipid and glucose concentrations developed. In uninjured parts of the lungs one can observe more concentration of lipids and in injured parts-more glucose. The changes of substrates, concentrations in the lungs are due to not only the changes of venous blood excess in the lungs, but are connected with metabolic changes in the cells of the injured and uninjured parts of the lungs. The metabolic changes in the lungs in the acute period of chest trauma influence the creation of such indices of gas exchange as PaCO2 and PACO2.

RESUMO

Rates of absorption of nitric component, lipids and carbohydrates were studied in dogs with autoperfusion of intestinal loop. In spite of a great energetic value of the lipid component, its increased contents in nutrient mixture is less significant than the carbohydrate contents for maintaining the absorption of plastic components. The data obtained suggest that caloric supply is only significant at the level of assimilation of nutrient components supplying the energy for inclusion of plastic elements into the organism structure and not at the stage of transfer of the amino acids from enteral into inner milieu.

RESUMO

Clinical course of 77 surgical cases of cancer of the large bowel was evaluated versus levels of estrogen, androgen, progesterone and glucocorticoid hormone receptors. Within the follow-up period (range 6-41 months), 7 (9%) patients died of tumor progression, 16 (21%) developed recurrence or metastases, while the rest 54 (70%) cases continued in remission. Patients with steroid hormone receptor-positive tumors revealed more favorable clinical course as well as longer disease-free and overall survival than cases of receptor-negative cancer. Estrogen receptor status was found to be of the highest prognostic value in terms of clinical course and survival, as compared to all other hormone receptors studied.

RESUMO

Receptors of steroid hormones (estrogens, androgens, progesterone and glucocorticoids) were studied in 60 patients with stage II-III primary cancer of the large bowel. In 58%, tumors were receptor-positive, with receptors of estrogens and glucocorticoids being the most frequent. No correlation between the frequency of receptor identification and the patients' sex, age, tumor's site or stage was established. Since it is suggested that large bowel cancer may be hormone-sensitive, it makes the case for development of new methods of prevention and treatment of the disease.
