RESUMO

THE AIM: Of this study was the evaluation of the effect of the antioxidant gel on the oral mucosa and reduction of the time of adaptation to a removable denture in patients with partial adentia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study comprised 105 patients aged 30-65 years divided into three groups: the main group of 45 patients, the comparison group of 35 patients, the control group of 25 patients. The main group was given a prophylactic gel with natural astaxanthin after the delivery of a removable prosthesis. The patients of the control group and the comparison group do not received an antioxidant gel. Patients of all three groups underwent a study of the hygienic state of the oral mucosa and oral fluid to assess the state of oral microbiocenosis. The main group and the comparison group underwent visual examination and photoplanimetric control after the placement of a removable denture. RESULTS: A positive preventive and anti-inflammatory effect of astaxanthin gel was found in patients who received an immediate and a partial removable dentures. The use of the gel for 7 days helps to reduce the values of hygiene indices, concentrations of bacterial plasmalogen and endotoxin in the oral fluid in the short-term perspective. CONCLUSION: Preventive dental gel with astaxanthin decreases the time of adaptation to removable dentures by 1.7-2 times and reduces the risk of prosthetic stomatitis due to its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial actions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the physical and mechanical properties of the new basic light polymer material in clinical conditions in pediatric orthodontic patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The strength properties of 113 basic orthodontic devices made of photopolymer material without reinforcement with a screw, vestibular arch, and clasps t (55 devices, 30 of them for the upper jaw, 25 for the lower jaw) and with quartz mesh reinforcement of the base (58 devices: 30 for the upper jaw, 28 for the lower jaw) were studied in 60 children aged 3 to 12 years in the periods of temporary and removable bite. RESULTS: In total, breakdowns of the base in devices without reinforcement were noted in 5.5% of cases. Our experimental studies have shown a significant improvement in the strength properties (modulus of elasticity, crack resistance, bending strength, maximum bending strain) when reinforcing the base polymer quartz mesh more than times. The clinical part of the study effectively reflects the positive trends in the reinforcement of the base from. A specific symptom complex of allergic reactions when wearing removable devices made of light-curing polymer was not detected. The observations continued for two years. CONCLUSION: The obtained results of the strength properties of the reinforced base from the light-cured polymer and the absence of breakdowns, cracks and other deformations make it possible to produce reliable extensible orthodontic removable structures and devices, as well as to recommend this bioinert material for the correction of dental anomalies in children in the clinic of an orthodontist. This will improve the quality of services provided, significantly reduce the time of orthodontic treatment of dental anomalies in children.

RESUMO

The aim of the work was to study changes in the time range of heart rate variability (HRV) against the background of changes in the concentration of corticosterone in blood plasma in rats after surgical trauma to the nasal septum. Septoplasty was simulated in 30 mature male Wistar rats weighing 210-290 g. ECG was recorded with subsequent analysis of the time domain of HRV, as well as blood sampling to estimate changes in the concentration of corticosterone in the blood plasma was performed. As a result, SDNN significantly increased in comparison with the control on days 2 and 3 (p < 0.001) but decreased on days 4-5 (p < 0.001) and 6 (p < 0.01). rMSSD changed in waves with two irregular peaks on days 1 and 6. SDNN/rMSSD, in comparison with the 1st day of the postoperative period, increased on the 2nd day, continued to increase (p < 0.05), and then began to decrease on day 4 (p < 0.01). The total HRV power of was low throughout the postoperative period (p < 0.001), except for day 3, when it was equal to the control data. The increase in the total power index fell on day 3 after the operation (p <0.01), after which its decline was observed again. The concentration of corticosterone in the blood plasma in rats was significantly higher than before (p < 0.001). On postoperative day 2 to 4, its plateau was determined. Simulation of septoplasty leads to changes in the time range of HRV, an increase in the concentration of corticosterone in the blood plasma in rats with its maximum at the time of surgery and 24 h later, and the formation of a "plateau" on postoperative days 2 to 4, which coincides with the changes in HRV.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to improve the strength properties polymer by modifying its basis with various materials. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A polymer in the form of a pink-colored plasticine mass with veins was studied, a quartz mesh «Quartz splint mesh¼ manufactured by RTD (France) and two metal gold-plated wire mesh (0.1 mm and 0.15 mm in diameter) manufactured by Renfert (Germany). Modified test specimens, 65×40×3.5 mm in size were covered with a lavsan film and at a slight pressure the material was rolled out with a glass cylinder flush with the frame. Curing was carried out in Fhotopress photopolymer (Aveyron, RF) under the 460-470 nm wavelength light for 6 minutes on each side. The plates were sawn with a mill in the form of strips 64×10×3.3 mm and kept in distilled water at 37 °C for 50 h before testing. The test of the reinforced samples was carried out with a middle and lower location of quartz and metal grids pre-treated with adhesive and subjected to a 4-point bending test. Bending strength, bending modulus, and fracture deformation were determined using a Zwick/Roell Z010 testing machine with a constant crosshead speed under loading (5±1) mm/min. The statistical significance of the influence of reinforcing elements on the performance of the basic physical and mechanical properties of the base material was determined using Student's t-test. RESULTS: The value of fracture toughness index K1 at the lower location of the quartz mesh was 3.72±0.43 MN/m1.5, which was 4.9 times significantly higher than K1 for the non-reinforced material (p=0.0001). CONCLUSION: The ability to achieve maximum material strength with the lower reinforcement method increases the functional usefulness of removable orthodontic and orthopedic structures with a basis of «Nolatek¼ light-cured material.

RESUMO

The effects of septoplasty and sinus lifting simulation in rats on changes in the frequency domain of heart rate variability were compared. In the early postoperative period, the low-frequency component increases, and the high-frequency component decreases. The VLF range also increased. This indicates an increase in the activity of the sympathetic nervous system and a shift in metabolism under the influence of post-surgical inflammation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The study investigated the effect of 2%s odium hypochlorite gel application after post-etching salivary contamination on composite bonding strength to primary teeth enamel. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The sample consisted of 79 primary human teeth that were extracted no more than one month ago. The sample was randomly divided into four groups: (1) the control group (A) comprised 10 primary teeth, and composites were applied in the traditional manner without any salivary contamination; (2) the second group (B) consisted of 23 primary teeth in which salivary contamination was conducted after etching followed by re-etching and follow-up; (3) the third group (C) comprised 23 primary teeth in which saliva contamination was done after etching followed by washing, drying, and follow-up; and (4) the fourth group (D) comprised 23 primary teeth, in which salivary contamination was conducted after etching followed by application of sodium hypochlorite gel and follow-up. The samples were tested using the Testometric Tensile Strength Device (Testometric M350-10 kN, Testometric Ltd., UK) to measure the composite bonding strength to enamel of primary teeth. RESULTS: The arithmetic mean strength values in the research sample were ordered as followed: (A=13.39 MPa) > (D=11.82 MPa) > (C=8.07 MPa) > (B=6.15 MPa). The application of sodium hypochlorite gel after salivary contamination significantly improved the composite bonding strength to primary teeth enamel when compared with re-etching or only washing and drying. CONCLUSION: 15 s exposition of sodium hypochlorite gel with subsequent rinse and drying is recommended in case of saliva contamination of etched primary tooth enamel surface.

RESUMO

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of vacuum-gradient therapy in reducing orthodontic treatment time. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study comprised 57 patients aged from 25 to 35 years (mean age 28.8±4.6 years) with teeth crowding divided into two groups. In group 1 (n=29) orthodontic correction was combined with vacuum-gradient therapy by means of modified «AVLT-Desna¼ device, while patients in group 2 (n=28) underwent orthodontic correction alone. Microhaemo- and lymphocirculation was studied by laser Doppler flowmetry. RESULTS: Lymph draining and microhaemocirculation are impaired by teeth crowding. Orthodontic correction influences on microhaemo- and lymphocirculation of periodontal tissue on tooth movement and improves mechanisms of haemodynamic regulation. CONCLUSIONS: The method of vacuum-gradient therapy combined with complex malocclusion correction allows to accelerate orthodontic treatment and to improve microcirculation in the moved teeth area.

RESUMO

The concentration of plasmalogen bacterial and endotoxin levels in the saliva of patients with different severity of periodontal disease, injury prosthetic bed and with various degrees of the oral cavity microbiocenosis violations was studied. Determination of the presence of the pathological process was carried out clinically, according to the condition of periodontal tissues. The degree of microbiological disorders was assessed by the quantitative ratio of the types of microorganisms isolated from the smear taken from the gingival groove. It was found that the concentration of plasmalogen for normal microbiocenosis is not less than 0.7 µg/g. For the intermediate type of microbiocenosis, the concentration of 1.82 µg/g was determined; for dysbiosis - 5.64 µg/g, and for the expressed violation of the microbial composition accompanied by inflammatory processes - 6.54 µg/g. An increase in the concentration of bacterial endotoxin (be) more than 6.25 nanomole/g indicates the pronounced inflammatory process, regardless of the determined intensity of contamination of opportunistic gram-negative microflora.

RESUMO

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the force loss of orthodontic elastomeric chains with NiTi closed spring in artificial saliva by time. METHODS: The study samples comprised 40 elastomeric chains (20 Dentaurum, and 20 G & H) and 15 NiTi closed spring (GAC). The elastomeric chains were submerged in 36,6 ºC artificial saliva and stretched on the instrument of resin plates at a distance of 30 mm. With an electronic dynamometer the delivered force was evaluated at different intervals: at baseline, after 1 day, 4, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. Specimens of 15 NiTi coil springs were tested by dynamometer to evaluate force loss following 1, 2, or 3 months of use. RESULTS: It was observed a significant force loss of elastomeric chains after 24 hours. There was a force loss of elastomeric chains (from 34±1.3% to 53.86±2% after 28 days of activation). NiTi springs showed force loss (~13%) following 28 days of use, with a further significant loss (~6%) at 4-8 weeks; force levels remained steady thereafter. CONCLUSION: There was higher force loss in the different commercially elastomeric chains (~60%) in comparison to NiTi springs (21%).

RESUMO

In 99 orthognathic children 7 to 15 years and 83 age-matched children with deep prognathism the masticatory muscles stiffness was measured in a relatively resting state and maximal voluntary contraction. In children with anomalous occlusion the stiffness of relaxed muscles was increased as related to normal values, and their contractility was reduced. After the orthodontic treatment the indices of muscular tonus improved.
