RESUMO

Serum selenium concentration was determined for 426 inhabitants of Khabarovsk land, Jewish district and several towns of Sakhalin, Sakha republic, Magadan and Kamchatka regions. Concentration range was found to be 69,4-116,9 microg/L with the lowest values being typical for Komsomolsk-na-Amure and Nikolaevsk-na-Amure (about 70 microg/L), the highest - for Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (125 microg/L). Mean selenium consumption for Khabarovsk residents was 80,9 microg/L, cereals, meat and fish being the main selenium sources (33,30 and 29% respectively).

RESUMO

Iodine content in breast milk depends on the consumption level of iodine. Iodine deficiency in mothers results in inadequate iodine status of neonates. Premature birth effect on iodine excretion with urine and iodine content in breast milk was investigated. Breast milk iodine concentrations did not differ for healthy women and women with premature birth, but the values were lower than the optimal value. Iodine supplements at any gestation stage normalized iodine content in breast milk.

RESUMO

Julia-2 mercury analyzer is modified. Gasodynamic scheme of the device is altered: water vapors can no longer enter the cuvette, the circulation mode is realized. Equilibrium concentration of mercury vapors is thus attained. The analytical signal is well reproduced. Alteration of the reactor volume improves the sensitivity of testing larger samples.

RESUMO

Lipid peroxidation was investigated in 89 patients suffering from hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. In addition to routine tests, measurements were made of plasma malonic dialdehyde and acyl hydroperoxides the levels of which were found increased 1.3-1.4-fold and 1.5-2-fold, respectively, in the severe disease compared to control values. The degree of lipid peroxidation intensification and aggravation of the symptoms proved to agree. It is suggested that abnormal lipid peroxidation contributes to development of renal syndrome which in hemorrhagic fever may progress to acute renal failure.

RESUMO

Lipid peroxidation (LPO) was studied in 66 patients suffering from hemorrhagic fever with the renal syndrome (HFRS) by the results of determination of the content of malonic dialdehyde and acyl hydroperoxides in plasma. LPO intensity rose considerably, being the highest in a severe course of disease. LPO disorder developed against a background of considerable shifts in the level of total blood lipids and their fractions: cholesterol, total beta- and pre-beta-lipoproteins, total phospholipids and triglycerides. The author discussed the importance of LPO disorders revealed in HFRS pathogenesis and determination of the severity of disease and its prognosis.
