RESUMO

Treatment of 63 patients having infiltrative and disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis attended by decay and bacterial excretion with 4 essential drugs (isoniazid, rifadine, pyrazinamide, ethambutol) and, in disseminated processes, additionally with streptomycin without determining their drug sensitivity contributed to the cessation of sputum acid-resistant mycobacteria in 96.8% and to cavity cicatrisation in 77.8%. Irregular use of izoniazid and rifadine during continued treatment is one of the reasons for the low rates of cavity resolution.

RESUMO

Patients with lower lung lobular tuberculosis are shown to be detectable on their visit to a doctor. The diagnostic period lasts several months. Following the WHO recommendations to make a microscopic study of sputum in general health care facilities among persons with suspected tuberculosis allowed the diagnosis to be established in 78.8% of the patients within a month.

RESUMO

A procedure for application of thin composite coats based on polymers (polyurethane or polyethylene) and ciprofloxacin in active gaseous phase generated by electron beam dispersion under vacuum was developed. The coats were shown to be highly dispersed systems whose components preserved the initial molecular structure and had antibacterial activity. The composite coats based on polyurethane were more stable to ciprofloxacin leaching in isotonic sodium chloride solution.

RESUMO

An anonymous questionnaire was filled by 129 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis to study bioethical aspects. It contained questions concerning a patient's attitude to obtaining full information on his/her disease, treatments, and physician-patient relations, keeping his/her disease confidential from the relatives, controlled and obligatory treatments.

RESUMO

Patients with destructive pulmonary tuberculosis were examined. Comparing those receiving chemopathogenetic, epicutaneous laser and ultrasound therapies showed an increase in the incidence of cavitary scarring in those taking successive epicutaneous laser and ultrasound therapies and exposed to biologically active points. Epicutaneous laser therapy promoted cicatrization of large cavities.

RESUMO

A total of 549 epileptic children and 162 healthy children were studied dermatoglyphically. The authors found significant dermatoglyphic differences between the control subjects and patients suffering from epilepsy with a progressive and an unprogressive course. Dermatoglyphic characteristics in the epileptic patients varied in groups with different clinical characteristics (age at the onset of the disease and the duration of the latter, the daily development of paroxysms at the same time, a tendency toward a stable course, the presence of psychic states and the resistance to therapy). Statistical task-solving rules for diagnosing epilepsy in children were elaborated. The correct computer-aided diagnosis on the basis of dermatoglyphic examination was made in 70% of the epileptic patients.

RESUMO

A dermatoglyphical study was conducted on 393 children and adolescents suffering from different forms of epilepsy. The group of epileptic patients compared to normals demonstrated more frequent existence of the transversal sulcus, less symmetricity on digital patterns. The authors distinguished correlations between dermatoglyphical features and a form of epilepsy, type of a course and pathogenic forms. The obtained data testify to a certain diagnostical and prognostical value of dermatoglyphical features.

RESUMO

The authors carried out a histological study of 150 thyroid glands removed for various forms of goiter. Nodular and mixed goiter with frequent signs of degeneration prevailed in residents of the Primorsk region. Histological structure of the majority of them corresponded to the colloidal, mostly to the macrofollicular goiter. A lower percentage of morphological signs of the goiter activity in comparison with the clinical data revealed in the hospitalized patients can be attributed to the efficacy of antithyroidal therapy causing involution of the hyperactive glands. Various types of adenomas chronic thyroiditis and the initial stages of the node malignization were determined only by histological examination.

RESUMO

A study was made of evoked potentials (EP) in response to light stimulus in the occipital areas of the cortex in 28 patients with homonimous hemianopsia caused by focal affection of the optic system. EP asymmetry in the hemispheres was recorded only in case of complete homonimous hemianopsia. Reduction of response at the side of contralateral hemoanopsia was observed in affection of the optic tracts at the level of the optic cord and in case of spread of the pathological focus to the occipital lobe. In half of the cases of homonimous hemianopsia caused by affection of the optic radiation the responses were greater by amplitude at the side of the focus or were recorded only in the deafferentated occipital area.
