RESUMO
In the context of a festschrift to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Revista Médica de Chile, a "radiography" of the journal has been depicted using several scientometric indicators. Among the mainstream journals in the category of Medicine, General & Internal and taking into account the wide editorial coverage and the language of the publication that fulfills the need for the required social appropriation of science that the country requires, the Revista Médica de Chile portrays healthy and quite relevant. Among the articles published between 1981 and 1995, some concerning public health have reached, particularly, an impact which surpasses their mean expected citation rate

Various studies showed an increase of anxiety and agitation after premedication with thalamonal. Subject of the present study was to specify if the psychotropic effect of the neuroleptic drug dehydrobenzperidol given during surgery is also evident during the postoperative period. Patients undergoing tympanoplastic surgery under general anaesthesia were examined by means of a psychometric analogous self judgement scale seven hours following surgical intervention. Sleep behaviour during the first postoperative night was evaluated via a question sheet. The results show that changes in condition, known from the thalamonal discussion, e.g. increase of agitation, irritability, anxious depression -- also occur during the postoperative period. During the first postoperative night, sleep was greatly disturbed. The results of a comparison group who received the benzodiazepine dipotassium clorazepate instead of dehydrobenzperidol showed a better postoperative condition and sleep behaviour.

Chest deformation due to cardiac activity can be studied with the use of techniques based on Moiré principle. The shadow technique allows to obtain well contrasted fringes, whereas the technique of projected Moiré allows an easier taking of camera pictures. The fringes in this case, although less contrasted, allow to recognize level differences of the order of 0.17 mm with a network of 20 traits/mm in the present configuration of our material. The best criteria of registration have been set up after the study of 10 young subjects. In the presented case topographic measurements allowed a quantitative evaluation of the apical impulse. The telesystolic image after treatment allowed a tridimensional reconstruction of chest deformation.

1. Doses of clonidine 0.15 mg or guanfacine 1.0 mg, respectively, and 2 h later additional doses of clonidine 0.3 mg or guanfacine 2.0 mg, respectively, were given to 24 healthy students. 2. Blood pressure was reduced by the same amount by both drugs. 3. Plasma noradrenaline concentrations decreased with both drugs, but the reduction was significantly greater following the administration of clonidine. 4. Mental activity in the EEG was less suppressed in the guanfacine group than in the clonidine group. The differences were statistically significant. 5. Self-estimations for well-being and mood showed only small changes due to guanfacine but significant changes due to clonidine. 6. The decrease of information processing and the increase in reaction time, measured by performance in different psychometric tests, were significantly more pronounced after clonidine treatment than guanfacine. 7. A dose-response relationship could only be observed in vigilosomnograms, in the tests of self-estimation related to well-being and mood and in the decrease in plasma noradrenaline in the clonidine group. 8. It was concluded that guanfacine had a lesser CNS depressant action than clonidine, when administered in equipotent hypotensive doses.
