INTRODUCTION: Depression is a pervasive mental health condition that affects individuals across various demographic categories, including imprisoned adults. The prevalence of mental health problems among inmates worldwide is considerably higher than in the general population, and it is estimated that 11% of inmates have significant mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression. This study aimed to find out the prevalence of depression and factors associated with it among the prisoners of Gandaki Province, Nepal. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among the inmates in Gandaki Province, Nepal. Data were collected from 223 inmates, who were recruited through systematic random sampling from eight district-level prisons. The Beck Depression Inventory-II was used to measure depression, with the cumulated score dichotomized into depressed and not-depressed categories. Additionally, a structured questionnaire was employed to capture socio-demographic and imprisonment-related variables. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regressions were performed to examine the factors associated with depression. RESULTS: Findings revealed that 18.8% of the inmates exhibited symptoms of depression. Inmates with health problems [(adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 2.39], suicide ideation during imprisonment (aOR = 4.37), and attempted suicide before imprisonment (aOR = 7.97) had a statistically significant relationship with depression. This study revealed a notable prevalence of depression among incarcerated individuals in the Gandaki Province of Nepal. CONCLUSION: The findings imply a crucial need for psychosocial and rehabilitative interventions to enhance inmates' mental health and overall well-being.

X-ray crystallography is an established tool to probe the structure of macromolecules with atomic resolution. Compared with alternative techniques such as single-particle cryo-electron microscopy and micro-electron diffraction, X-ray crystallography is uniquely suited to room-temperature studies and for obtaining a detailed picture of macromolecules subjected to an external electric field (EEF). The impact of an EEF on proteins has been extensively explored through single-crystal X-ray crystallography, which works well with larger high-quality protein crystals. This article introduces a novel design for a 3D-printed in situ crystallization plate that serves a dual purpose: fostering crystal growth and allowing the concurrent examination of the effects of an EEF on crystals of varying sizes. The plate's compatibility with established X-ray crystallography techniques is evaluated.

This case report describes a case of intention replantation in a 15-year-old patient with a mandibular permanent right second molar that had undergone root canal treatment previously. The tooth was tender on percussion. Radiographic evaluation showed the presence of a separated instrument and periapical radiolucency. The surgical procedure was performed under local anesthesia, and the tooth was extracted. After cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system, the tooth was reimplanted, and the socket was filled with a mixture of bone graft material and a growth factor. A stainless steel crown was then placed to protect the tooth. A follow-up examination was performed after 12 months. The clinical and radiographic examinations revealed a well-healing periapical lesion with no signs of infection. The patient was asymptomatic, and the tooth was functional. The results of this case indicate that intentional replantation can lead to a favorable outcome.

In regions facing water scarcity and soil salinity, mitigating these abiotic stresses is paramount for sustaining crop production. This study aimed to unravel the synergistic effects of organic matter and phosphorus management in reducing the adverse effect of saline water for irrigation on red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) production, fruit quality, plant physiology, and stress tolerance indicators. The study was carried out in the arid Tadla region of Morocco and involved two key experiments: (i) a field experiment during the 2019 growing season, where red pepper plants were subjected to varying phosphorus fertilizer rates (120, 140, and 170 kg of P2O5.ha-1) and saline water irrigation levels (0.7; 1.5; 3; and 5 dS.m-1); and (ii) a controlled pot experiment in 2021 for examining the interaction of saline water irrigation levels (EC values of 0.7, 2, 5, and 9 dS.m-1), phosphorus rates (30, 36, and 42 kg of P2O5.ha-1), and the amount of organic matter (4, 8, 12, and 16 t.ha-1). The field study highlighted that saline irrigation significantly affected red pepper yields and fruit size, although phosphorus fertilization helped enhance productivity. Additionally, biochemical markers of stress tolerance, such as proline and glycine betaine, along with stomatal conductance, were impacted by increasing salinity levels. The pot experiment showed that combining organic amendments and phosphorus improved soil properties and stimulated red pepper growth and root weight across all salinity levels. The integration of phosphorus fertilization and organic amendments proved instrumental for counteracting salinity-induced constraints on red pepper growth and yield. Nonetheless, caution is necessary as high salinity can still negatively impact red pepper productivity, necessitating the establishment of an irrigation water salinity threshold, set at 5 dS.m-1.

ABSTRACT: Cardiac metastases of lung cancers are common and are associated with serious complications. Locally aggressive lung tumors have the potential to extend into the left atrium via pulmonary veins, which can further complicate by embolizing into the systemic circulation. Pulmonary blastoma (PB) is one of the rare forms of primary lung malignancy and is locally aggressive. We report a rare case of 30 years old male patient who underwent left pneumonectomy for PB. During resection, the tumor was embolized into the descending thoracic aorta, leading to an acute circulatory compromise of both the lower limbs.

India is the world's largest edible oil importer, and soybean oil accounts for a major portion of those imports, with implications for the Indian economy. Despite being the 4th largest globally in terms of harvested soybean area and 5th largest in terms of production, India is still heavily dependent on imports to meet the vegetable oil requirement for its population. It is therefore imperative to understand the dynamics and trends in India's soybean production to help the country achieve self-sufficiency in edible oils. This study provides the first spatially explicit analysis of soybean in India, using long-term spatial and temporal statistics at national and subnational levels, using spatial and temporal statistical analysis models to examine the historical trends and its future prospects. Our analysis details the overall soybean expansion across the country and the increase in production but we also note that the annual growth rate has declined in each consecutive decade even though the area continues to expand. The average national yield has been stagnant at around 1 T/Ha but for some of the low-producing districts, a higher yield of more than 3 T/ha is reported. For most major producing districts, soybean yields are below 1.5 T/Ha. The state of Madhya Pradesh which was the major soybean producer is now matched by the state of Maharashtra in terms of production, however, Madhya Pradesh still has the largest area under soybean. We analyzed soybean hotspot expansion in India and found that the mean center of the soybean area and production has shifted approximately 93 km towards the south and 24 km to the west as the crop is rapidly being adopted in the southern and western parts of India expanding the hotspot in these parts. District-level analysis showed that the total number of districts constituting hotspots of soybean cultivation in India has increased from 29 to 42 in three decades. Furthermore, analysis of soybean oil and meal consumption with respect to the national population, import, export, domestic production, GDP per capita, and price of soybean oil and meal suggests that soybean oil and meal are highly correlated with GDP per capita and population, indicating that consumption of soybean oil and meal is likely to increase as GDP per capita increases, and future demand is expected to rise with the anticipated growth in the Indian population. Increased soybean production can play a significant role in increasing national food security for India and reducing dependence on foreign oil imports and also help the economy with soy meal exports. Understanding the spatiotemporal variability in area and yield will help target interventions to increase production. Given the overall low yields with high variability in production, particularly in recent years primarily due to successive extreme rains and droughts in major producing districts and the overall need to increase production to meet the country's demand, there is a pressing need for government policies and research aimed at narrowing the yield gap and developing soybean varieties that are more productive and resilient to climate change.

RATIONAL AND OBJECTIVE: Diversity, equity, inclusion, and representation in various sectors have garnered increasing attention in the past two decades, including healthcare. In this report we investigate representation of females and underrepresented minorities (URM) in the field of radiology and asses for significant growth trends in representation in residency training programs in the United States. MATERIALS AND METHODS: De-identified trainee demographic information for active radiology trainees from 2016 to 2021 was queried using the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and new radiology trainees using the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)'s Main Residency Match Data and Reports databooks. RESULTS: In 2021 females represented 26.7% of DR residency trainees and 22% of IR integrated trainees. In the same year URM trainees represented 11.3% of trainees and 8.7% of IR integrated trainees. From 2017 to 2021, diagnostic radiology had a compound average growth rate (CAGR) 1% (p <0.01) of female representation and 1.12% (p<0.01) of URM representation. CONCLUSION: This study quantifies female and underrepresented minority representation among radiology trainees for diagnostic radiology and radiology subspecialities, identifying modest uptrends in representation within both demographics.

The duration and quality of sleep are believed to significantly influence the onset of metabolic syndrome (MetS), but existing data lack consistency. The meta-analysis aims to evaluate the prevalence of the MetS in association with sleep duration. We conducted a systematic review according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses 2020 guidelines. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Google Scholar, and Research Gate databases was performed to identify cohort and cross-sectional studies published in English between 2013 and 2023. We included studies that examined the association between sleep duration/quality and MetS, and two independent reviewers assessed study quality and bias using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. The systematic review included 11 studies with a total of 343,669 participants, including 4 cohort studies and 7 cross-sectional studies. Sample sizes varied widely, ranging from 293 to 162,121 individuals. The studies had different follow-up periods, participant ages ranging from 10 to 80 years, and predominantly male populations. The prevalence of MetS was higher in average sleepers [52%, 95% confidence interval (CI): 40%-64%] compared with short sleepers (13%, 95% CI: 8%-18%) and long sleepers (15%, 95% CI: 9%-24%). Globally, North American countries exhibit the highest prevalence of MetS across short- (25.3%, 95% CI: 4.2%-72.4%) and long-sleeper (22.4%, 95% CI: 2.8%-74.1%) categories, whereas Asian countries experience the highest prevalence among the average sleeper category (58.7%, 95% CI: 44.1%-71.9%). Our meta-analysis indicates an elevated prevalence of MetS in average sleepers. Future research endeavors address delve into the underlying mechanisms and incorporate objective measures to understand the multifaceted connection between sleep patterns and MetS, guiding more effective preventive and management strategies.

BACKGROUND: Despite the increasing focus on strengthening One Health capacity building on global level, challenges remain in devising and implementing real-world interventions particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. Recognizing these gaps, the One Health Action Commission (OHAC) was established as an academic community for One Health action with an emphasis on research agenda setting to identify actions for highest impact. MAIN TEXT: This viewpoint describes the agenda of, and motivation for, the recently formed OHAC. Recognizing the urgent need for evidence to support the formulation of necessary action plans, OHAC advocates the adoption of both bottom-up and top-down approaches to identify the current gaps in combating zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance, addressing food safety, and to enhance capacity building for context-sensitive One Health implementation. CONCLUSIONS: By promoting broader engagement and connection of multidisciplinary stakeholders, OHAC envisions a collaborative global platform for the generation of innovative One Health knowledge, distilled practical experience and actionable policy advice, guided by strong ethical principles of One Health.

Background Telemedicine and remote patient monitoring have emerged as transformative solutions in contemporary healthcare. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of these technologies on healthcare delivery, focusing on patient outcomes, economic parameters, and overall satisfaction. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted in various healthcare facilities, involving 186 participants with chronic diseases. Inclusion criteria included patients actively using telemedicine services. Data collection methods included surveys, interviews, and review of medical records, focusing on patient demographics, clinical outcomes, and economic parameters. The intervention involved a seamless integration of telemedicine technologies into the existing health system. Results Primary outcomes revealed significant improvements in patient health, including a decrease in disease-specific markers (mean reduction of 12,000 to 11,000, p = 0.002), a substantial reduction in severity of symptoms (mean reduction from 3,500 to 2,500, p < 0.001), and a general improvement in health status (mean increase from 7,200 to 8,500, p < 0.001). The savings in healthcare costs were evident, with direct costs decreasing from 25,000 to 12,000 (p < 0.001) and indirect costs decreasing from <10,000 to <5,000 (p = 0.004). Secondary results demonstrated increased patient satisfaction with communication (increase from 80% to 95%, p < 0.001) and convenience of services (increase from 75% to 90%, p < 0.001). Patient satisfaction also increased significantly (from 80% to 95%, p < 0.001). Accessibility to healthcare services improved, with a reduction in geographic barriers (increase from 65% to 90%, p < 0.001) and a decrease in the frequency of healthcare utilization (decrease from 2.5 to 1.5, p < 0.001). Conclusion The study provides robust evidence of the positive impact of telemedicine and remote patient monitoring on healthcare delivery. Significant improvements in patient outcomes, coupled with substantial cost savings and increased satisfaction levels, underscore the transformative potential of these technologies.

The extent of variability in identified risk factors for suicide attempts (SA) in schizophrenia limits their generalization. This study aimed to identify the rates and associated correlates of SA in schizophrenia by reviewing a large cohort (n=500). Nearly one-fourth had a history of SA, which was independently associated with a family history of SA, more inpatient admissions, and better long-term treatment response. These findings highlight the complex interaction between biological factors influencing SA and illness determinants in schizophrenia. Furthermore, they reinforce the need for future research to unravel the association between suicide vulnerability and the pathophysiology of schizophrenia to attenuate morbidity and mortality associated with the same.

Aims: The aim of the study is to evaluate the penetration depth of irrigants mixed with NaOCl into dentinal tubules at the apical third of the root canal using a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). Materials and Methods: Thirty-six single-rooted teeth were selected, decoronated, and straight-line access established. Then, the canal was enlarged with hand Protaper till size F3. The samples were divided randomly into three groups: Group 1 was irrigated with 3% NaOCl mixed with 1% phytic acid; Group 2 was irrigated with 3% NaOCl mixed with 18% etidronic acid; and Group 3 was irrigated with 3% NaOCl mixed with chitosan. The samples were subjected to CLSM evaluation. One-way analysis of variance with Tukey's post hoc was used for statistical analysis. Results: Group 3 (NaOCl with chitosan) showed a greater depth of penetration in comparison to Groups 1 and 2. Conclusion: Within limitations, it can be concluded that chitosan, in combination with NaOCl can be used as an alternative to the current irrigation protocol.

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an immune-mediated disorder characterized by the destruction of platelets and megakaryocytes due to autoantibodies against the platelet surface proteins. ITP without any apparent cause of thrombocytopenia is defined as primary ITP, and ITP in the setting of SLE is secondary ITP, which can be diagnosed after excluding other causes of thrombocytopenia by history, physical examination, and laboratory testing. Patients with ITP associated with SLE have higher median platelet count and less bleeding manifestations compared to the patients with primary ITP. It can be very challenging to diagnose primary ITP in SLE patients as other causes of thrombocytopenia including drug-induced thrombocytopenia, antiphospholipid syndrome, and thrombotic microangiopathic process should be ruled out. Corticosteroids are the main modality of treatment. IVIG can be used in severe cases. Splenectomy was found to be less effective in ITP associated with SLE compared to primary ITP. Control of disease activity with immunosuppressive therapy can be helpful in some cases associated with active disease flares in SLE patients.

This review explores different methods of sustainably introducing nutrients from agro-industrial waste into the soil. The focus is on sustainable agriculture and how the soil system can be modified by introducing secondary raw materials and beneficial microorganisms. Soil is a nexus between plants and microorganisms that must be balanced. The article emphasizes the importance of maintaining the microbiological balance when supplying nutrients. This review is focused on the possible techniques involved in the production of biofertilizers and their mode of application into the soil system and on plants. We addressed several advantages concerning the use of beneficial microorganisms in waste management by microbial formulation techniques. Not only the advantages but several limitations and challenges were also discussed in regard to the large scale production of microbial products. Therefore, the proper treatment of industrial waste is essential so that we can preserve the environment and human safety and also achieve sustainable agriculture.

Early diagnosis may be crucial for the prevention of chronic diabetes mellitus. For that herein, we prepared a CuS/MoS2 composite for a non-enzymatic glucose sensor through a one-step hydrothermal method owing to the synergetic effect of CuS/MoS2. The surface morphology of CuS/MoS2 was studied by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Cs-corrected Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cs-STEM). The crystallinity and surface composition of CuS/MoS2 were analyzed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) respectively. The working electrode was prepared from CuS/MoS2 electrocatalyst, and for that dispersed solution of electrocatalyst was used to fabricate the material-loaded glassy carbon electrode (GC). CuS/MoS2 composite shows the viability of electrocatalyst to oxidize glucose in an alkaline solution with sensitivity and detection limit of 252.71 µA mM-1 cm-2 and 1.52 µM respectively. The proposed glucose sensor showed reasonable stability and potential selectivity during electrochemical analysis. Accordingly, the CuS/MoS2 composite has potential as a viable material for glucose sensing in diluted human serum.

Oxides with a face-centred cubic (fcc) anion sublattice are generally not considered as solid-state electrolytes as the structural framework is thought to be unfavourable for lithium (Li) superionic conduction. Here we demonstrate Li superionic conductivity in fcc-type oxides in which face-sharing Li configurations have been created through cation over-stoichiometry in rocksalt-type lattices via excess Li. We find that the face-sharing Li configurations create a novel spinel with unconventional stoichiometry and raise the energy of Li, thereby promoting fast Li-ion conduction. The over-stoichiometric Li-In-Sn-O compound exhibits a total Li superionic conductivity of 3.38 × 10-4 S cm-1 at room temperature with a low migration barrier of 255 meV. Our work unlocks the potential of designing Li superionic conductors in a prototypical structural framework with vast chemical flexibility, providing fertile ground for discovering new solid-state electrolytes.
