[Study of anorexia nervosa]. / Prouchvaniia vurkhu nervnata anoreksiia.

18 women suffering from nervous anorexia were studied. The onset of the disease was before the age of 25 years in all patients. The loss of body mass was between 25% and 40%, mean 32%. The onset of the disease was preceded by psychic trauma, negative attitude toward eating, in some cases there had been periods of bulimia, use of purgatives and diuretics. All patients had amenorrhea. In 44.44% of the patients hypercholesterolemia was found, in 72.80%-hypertriglyceridemia, in 54.54%--increased somatotropic hormone level, in 54.54%--increased ACTH level, in 72.80%, decrease of follicle-stimulating hormone level, in 81.80%--decrease of the luteinizing hormone, in 81.80%--decrease of triiodothyronine (T3), in 81.80%--decrease of estradiol and in 81.80%--increase of testosterone were found. The deviations found in the patients with nervous anorexia are considered as manifestations of chronic food deficiency and they disappear after regaining the normal body mass.

[Serum lipid studies of hyperlipoproteinemia patients during diet therapy with pectin preparations]. / Prouchvanniia na serumnite lipidi u bolni s khiperlipoproteinemiia po vreme na dietolechenie s pektinovi preparati.

Seventy one patients with nutritional-metabolic obesity (II--IV degree) were examined, with or without hyperlipoproteinemia, treated in hospitals or sanatoria for 25 days. The effect of the hypoenergy diet regimen (5,94 kJ = 1460 cal) was studied, that was combined with an average daily import of 11 g esterified, apple pectin (in fruit pastes and drinks) upon the level of 6 serum lipid indices. A decrease (less than 0,05) of total cholesterol, triglycerides and some other lipid indices was established both in the patients with hyperlipoproteinemia type II (IIa and IIb) and type IV, in those without hyperlipoproteinemia syndrome as well. Due to the hypolipidemic effect established the newly produced articles with high esterified apple pectin are recommended in the complex treatment of the patients with obesity (with or without secondary hyperlipoproteinemeia.

Effect of the pesticides phosalone and lindane on the activity of some dipeptidases and disaccharidases in rat intestinal mucosa.

The intestinal dipeptidase and disaccharidase activities were investigated in 120 male albino rats of the Wistar strain after administration of 21 mumol.kg-1 body weight phosalone, 14.8 mumol.kg-1 body weight lindane and 10.5 mumol.kg-1 body weight phosalone combined with 7.4 mumol.kg-1 body weight lindane. The dipeptidase activity under the effect of these comparatively low doses of pesticides reveals slightly to moderate changes. The activity of intestinal disaccharidases after a 90-day phosalone and lindane treatment is markedly decreased, particularly that of sucrase. The mechanism of these changes remains unknown.

[Diagnosis and treatment of gastrocolic fistulae and erroneous anastomoses following gastric resection]. / Vurkhu diagnozata i lechenieto na gastro-kolichnite fistuli i pogreshnite anastomozi sled stomashna rezektsiia

Results are reported of a clinical examination and surgical treatment of seven cases with gastro-jejunocolic fistulas and five cases with gastroileoanastomosis. The clinical picture, irrigography, steatorrhea, hypoproteinemia, etc. are stressed upon as important for the diagnosis. The operation result depended on the degree of the resorbtive disturbances, on successful reanimation and frequent postoperative complications. Postoperative lethality is five out of 12 cases.
