RESUMO

Breastfeeding self-efficacy is important for the achievement and maintenance of breastfeeding. For this reason, it is important to investigate the physical, psychological, social, and cultural factors that may affect breastfeeding self-efficacy. This study sought to investigate how gender roles affect breastfeeding self-efficacy. The study had a descriptive, cross-sectional, and co-relational design and was conducted on 213 postpartum women. The data collection tools of the study were the "Demographic Data Collection Form," "BEM Gender Roles Inventory" and "Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form." Percentages, means, and standard deviation served as the visual representation of descriptive statistics. The difference between the mean scores on the breastfeeding self-efficacy scale according to gender roles was investigated using one-way analysis of variance. In order to identify which measurement was the result of the difference, dependent groups underwent a t-test with Bonferroni correction. Among the women participating in the study, 39.9 percent had feminine, 35.2 percent androgynous, 14.1 percent masculine, and 10.8 percent ambiguous gender roles. It was concluded that women with androgynous gender roles have the highest level of breastfeeding self-efficacy in comparison other gender roles. Considering the inadequacy of education on breastfeeding or lack of counseling service providers for women's gender roles, there emerged a need for supportive care initiatives for the improvement of breastfeeding self-efficacy.

RESUMO

The purpose of the authors in this paper is to investigate the effects of negative experiences during delivery and postpartum period on the relationship between the mother. The quantitative part of this study was conducted with 289 mothers and the qualitative part with 40 mothers. It was found that experiencing upsetting problems during delivery (p = 0.006) and in the postpartum period (p = 0.002) had an effect on separation anxiety. Based on the examination of the feelings experienced during annoying or distressing situations in the postpartum period, it was determined that there was a significant correlation between guilt (p = 0.000), fear of not being a good mother (p = 0.035), and feeling weak (p = 0.001) and separation anxiety. Blues of birth is fear and anxiety that the baby will be harmed if the mother is separated from it, and it is attributed to negative experiences during delivery and the postpartum period.

RESUMO

In this study, authors aimed to evaluate the effect of breastfeeding education on breastfeeding success by using teach back method described in the information. The study was conducted with randomized controlled experimental research design and performed with 80 primiparous women as intervention (n: 40) and control (n: 40) groups. Independent t-test, multivariate and one-way analysis of variance, Bonferroni-matched paired t-test were used to evaluate the data. There was a statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of both LATCH and Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale mean scores, group, time and group * time interaction (p < 0.05). It has been concluded by the authors that breastfeeding education provided with teach-back method can be used as an effective method for breastfeeding self-efficacy and breastfeeding performance.

RESUMO

Background: Problems with sexuality are experienced in the first 6 months at the most, and often in the first 12 months after birth. Although there are studies reporting negative effects of breastfeeding on sexuality, the evidence is limited. Objective: This study was conducted with the aim of exploring the breastfeeding sexual lives of first-time mothers. Materials and Methods: The research was carried out in Turkey between October 2020 and December 2021. The study was conducted with 41 women who met the inclusion criteria. Participants were selected by the "snowball" sampling procedure among nonprobability sampling methods. A qualitative approach was used to gather data through semistructured interviews. Content analysis was used for data analysis as described by Graneheim and Lundman. Data analysis was performed using NVivo software (Version 11). Results: According to the results of the content analysis, three themes were created: factors affecting sexuality in the breastfeeding process, sexual interaction with the spouse during the breastfeeding process, and understood expectations. The theme, titled factors affecting sexuality in the breastfeeding process, consists of five categories: physical, psychological, sociocultural, infant-related, and health professionals-related factors. The theme of "understood expectations" consists of desires for improving sexual satisfaction and satisfaction during lactation, and sexual communication categories. The contact of sexual interaction with spouse during breastfeeding consists of positive interaction and negative interaction categories. Conclusions: It has been concluded that the sexual intercourse of women is adversely affected during the breastfeeding period and that women have expectations to increase their sexual satisfaction. Sexual problems during the breastfeeding process cause problems in the spousal relationship.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The study was conducted to determine the effect of the communication skills psychoeducation program on the self-esteem and communication skills of the care staff working in a rehabilitation center. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The sample was 61 in the study, which was conducted in a quasi-experimental way with a single group pretest, posttest and follow-up pattern. FINDING: At the end of the psychoeducation program, it was determined that the psychoeducation has a positive effect on the self-esteem and communication skills of the care staffs. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Implementation of this practice, which can be applied to all care staffs in the clinics or rehabilitation centers, with repeated measurements such as 6 or 12-month periods may contribute to the literature.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This study was carried out to evaluate the impact of communication education provided by using creative drama method on the communication skills, selfesteem, and organizational conflict resolution skills of midwifery undergraduates. METHODS: The research was conducted as a semi-experimental 'controlled pretest-posttest' method. The study was carried out with freshmen studying midwifery at a public university in Western Turkey (n=52) between 30 September and 30 December 2017. Data were collected by means of the Communication Skills Inventory, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory-II. Throughout the research process, a 12-week lesson plan covering the stages of the creative drama method was applied. During the collection of the data, the scales were applied to the group as pretest, posttest while dependent t-test was applied for analyzing purposes. RESULTS: Communication Skills Inventory behavioral communication skills created a significant difference between Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale self-esteem subscale scores (p>0.05). No significant difference was detected among the Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory sub-dimension mean scores (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Findings obtained from the research reveal that the creative drama method effectively develops communication skills, self-esteem, and conflict resolution skills for midwifery undergraduates.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of sexual behaviour, intercourse, satisfaction-related myths and spirituality on sexual dysfunctions in Muslim pregnant women. The study had a descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational design and was performed with 215 Muslim pregnant women. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analyses were utilized for data analysis. As a result of the multiple regression analyses, sexual dysfunctions were most affected by sexual behaviour myths and least affected by perceived spirituality. It can be suggested that sexuality should be incorporated into prenatal care and counselling.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of female sexual dysfunction in the postpartum period and its relationship with postpartum depression and certain other factors. DESIGN AND METHODS: Data were collected using an information form, the female sexual function index (FSFI), and the Edinburgh postpartum depression scale (EPDS) (N = 123). FINDINGS: A negative, very high, and statistically significant relationship was found between FSFI and EPDS scores (r = -0.831; P = .000). PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: The frequency of sexual dysfunction may increase in women at risk of postpartum depression.
