RESUMO

Seventy eight patients with varying malignancy non-Hodgkin's lymphomas were examined. Signs of extranodal damage of the spleen and liver were studied. Spleno- and hepatomegaly were signs of the commonest diffuse visceral involvements. In terms of the malignancy (low- or high-grade), splenomegaly was seen in 71.4 and 82.5% of patients and hepatomegaly was observed in 43.9 and 28.6%, respectively. In addition, irregular visceral outlines, tuberosity, changed density of the parenchyma and its homogeneity. A high correlation was found between the enlargement of the viscera and their decreased parenchymal density. Focal visceral involvements are less difficult to be diagnosed than diffuse ones, but they are much rarer. Computerized tomographic findings indicate the malignancy of a process.

RESUMO

It was established that most patients with non-Hodgkin malignant lymphomas against the background of secondary immunodeficiency show an activation of the saprophytic bacterial and mycotic flora that results in the development of different infectious complications essentially, thus, influencing the course and prognosis of the disease. A dependence was established between the malignancy grade of non-Hodgkins lymphomas and frequency of development of non-infectious complications.

RESUMO

Thirty-five RA patients with the disease history from 3 months to 15 years were examined. Seropositive RA was diagnosed in 19 patients, seronegative in 16 ones. A control group comprised 14 subjects aged 18-29. The marrow cells culturing occurred in the system agar drop-liquid. Compared to the reference group, in RA patients' precursor cells of granulomonocytopoiesis there was inhibited capacity for colony and cluster formation and predominance of small-size cell colonies. Colony-formation of marrow cells from seropositive RA patients was less active than in seronegative RA variant. Morphologic evaluation of the agar cultures showed prevalence of neutrophil colonies in the marrow cultures, though RA samples differed from those of healthy controls by a trend to a decline in the number of monocyte-macrophage cellular aggregates against similar proportions of eosinophilic colonies and clusters.

RESUMO

The authors describe the results of the cloning of hemopoietic cells from 85 patients with different patterns of nonlymphoblastic leukemias in the agar drop--liquid medium system. It is shown that measurement of the colony-stimulating activity of hemopoietic cells and their growth pattern as well as morphological study of the cultures can be employed in practical hematology for making diagnosis and differential diagnosis, for evaluation of the treatment efficacy and prediction of the disease prognosis. The presence of blast colonies, an increase in the number of cell aggregations is regarded as an unfavourable prognostic criterion. Elevation of the colony-stimulating activity of hemopoietic cells is evidence of a more favourable prognosis.

RESUMO

A study was made of the effect of the blood sera of persons of the control group and patients with various diseases of the blood on normal precursor cells of granulo-monocytopoiesis (CFU-GM) and leukemic clonogenic cells. A stimulating human blood serum effect on proliferation was noted during cultivation of normal CFU-GM and leukemic clonogenic cells in the "agar drop-liquid medium" system. As a rule, the stimulating serum effect manifested itself in the presence of feeder cells or a high "spontaneous" colony formation. Human blood sera can be added to a culture medium for improving its nutritive properties.

RESUMO

Culture of normal and leukemic hemopoietic cells was performed in the "agar drop-liquid medium" system. It is shown that cloning of the hemopoietic cells with mitogen does not result in amplication of proliferation of clonal cells, and does not enchance formation of optimal conditions for cell growth in vitro. Addition of blood serum of healthy people, and especially the serum of patients with different hematologic diseases to the liquid medium, leads to an increase in CFU-GM or colonies. It is suggested that mitogens may exert an indirect action on the clonogenic cells in which a colony stimulating serum factor probably takes part.
