RESUMO

In this study we investigated the effect of risk factors of metabolic syndrome on the content of light hydrocarbons (C2-C3) in exhaled air. We used a gas chromatograph with a short multi-channel column. As a result, sex differences in concentrations of light hydrocarbons presented in exhaled air were found. In addition, such factors as smoking and diabetes mellitus type 2 in relatives reflect on the exhaled C2-C3 compounds only in women. But the overweight correlates with the exhaled acetone (C3) only in men. Thus, the fact that the metabolic changes caused by the presence of risk factors of metabolic syndrome lead to changes in gas composition of exhaled air and can be registered and used for early diagnosis has been ascertained.

RESUMO

The short-term (1-7 days) and prolonged (30-90 days) adaptation of bacteria to hypomagnetic conditions was studied by observing changes in growth rate and resistance to antibiotics in E. coli used as an experimental model. The decrease of the growth rate of bacterial cells in the exponential phase was found to occur. The effect disappeared when the screened culture was placed under normal geomagnetic conditions for 1 hour daily. After prolonged screening an increase in the resistance of these bacteria to kanamycin and carbenicillin was registered. These changes were not hereditary: after the cessation of screening the sensitivity of the bacteria to antibiotics was restored.

RESUMO

The results have been presented of the zymosan (Z) effect mechanism in the reaction of the lipid peroxidation and the parts' separation of the protection antioxidant. The experiments were made on 32 Wistar rats. At the experimental series 25 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg of Z were injected. Control rats were injected with physiological saline alone.

RESUMO

The increased content of lipid peroxidation products in the liver and an associated increase in the microviscosity of lipid nuclear and microsomal liver cell membranes, as well as disturbed protein-lipid interaction in them have been determined 8 days after adrenalectomy. The addition of alpha-tocopherol into the diet (4 mg per day for 7 days after the operation) prevented the activation of lipid peroxidation and the disturbances of physico-chemical membrane properties and the decrease in the muscular working capacity in rats caused by adrenalectomy.

RESUMO

The content of malonyl dialdehyde, one of the final products of lipid peroxidation, was determined at different stages after zymosan stimulation of mononuclear phagocyte system in the rat liver. The gradual increase (with the maximum on day 7) of colloidal carbon clearance from the blood and the number of nonparenchymal cells, especially their nonphagocytic fraction, was noted in the rat liver after zymosan injection. A considerable reduction of hepatic malonyl dialdehyde was observed after the initial (on day 1) rising of its level. The distinct antioxidant effect developed by day 7 and coincided with maximal activity of hepatic macrophages.

RESUMO

Adrenocortical function and the intensity of lipid peroxidation in the liver of animals fed the diet containing alpha-tocopherol (4 mg/day/rat for 7 days) and exposed to cold stress for 2, 5 and 20 hours were studied in vitro. It was established that alpha-tocopherol reduces the duration of the corticosterone secretion augmentation under cold stress but raises the sensitivity of the adrenals to ACTH. The action of the antioxidant correlated with its content in the tissues and inhibition of the cold-induced activation of lipid peroxidation.

RESUMO

The reaction rates of N-demethylation of aminopyrine, p-hydroxylation of aniline and hydroxylation of 3,4-benzo(a)pyrene in liver microsomes were determined in rats exposed to severe cold (-7 degrees C) for a long time (8 days). The data obtained demonstrate the decreased activities of 3,4-benzo(a)pyrene hydroxylase and aniline hydroxylase. There were no distinct alterations in aminopyrine N-demethylase activity. The increased levels of NADPH- and ascorbate-dependent microsomal lipid peroxidation together with impairment of the soluble antioxidant glutathione system are considered in animals exposed to cold as a possible mechanism of monooxygenase activity deterioration in liver microsomes.

RESUMO

Biochemiluminescence of human body surface was studied with a modern photometric apparatus. It was shown that different parts of the body surface had different radiation levels. Open parts of human body (face, palms) and feet had the highest radiation level. The maximum radiation was detected in the blue spectrum range. The intensity of such biochemiluminescence was about 10 photons/sec/cm2.

RESUMO

Prolonged cold adaptation in rats (+4-6 degrees C) is associated with phasic changes in lipid peroxidation. On the 7th day the quantity of liquid peroxidation products in the liver and lungs and the ability of liver lipids to take part in the ascorbate-dependent peroxidation were increased. Meanwhile the antioxidant activity of lipids was decreased. On the 30th and 49th days there was no difference in the data obtained. This evidenced the formation of adaptation which was characterized by an essential rise in the antioxidant activity of liver lipids, by their decreased ability to get oxidized in the presence of ascorbate and iron, by a reduced amount in the liver and lungs of the peroxidation products (control levels). Activation of lipid peroxidation is considered as a necessary prerequisite for the formation of the specialized adaptation mechanisms.
