RESUMO

Introduction: With the advent of mini-implants, Class II correction has become routine. The study's goal was to compare the "Bone-Anchored Pendulum Appliance (BAPA)" to the "Bone-Anchored Intraoral Bodily Molar Distalizer (BAIBMD)" in terms of clinical efficacy. Materials and Procedures: Five boys and five girls were among the 10 patients in this split-mouth trial who had to have their molars distalized. On one side, BAPA Construction, and on the other, BAIBMD was piloted. A titanium mini-screw was used to secure both appliances to the bone since this was a spilled-mouth technique. The first molar bands to apply 200 g of force were used for both devices, as with all the other components that were similar for both appliances. For both sides, the nature, duration, and rate of tooth movement were compared. Using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, descriptive statistics for several parameters were examined. Results: Distalization was accomplished on both sides with clinical success. The rate of distalization did not show any significant variation. Less time was needed for distalization with BAPA, as evidenced by the statistically substantial variances in treatment duration between the two groups. Molar tipping was noticed in BAPA, and it was statistically significant. Conclusion: While the pace of distalization was equal for both appliances, BAIBMD required more time than BAPA but resulted in a distal tooth movement that was mostly translatory in nature.

RESUMO

The protruding and deviated premaxilla in bilateral complete cleft lip and palate (BCL/P) patients causes a perplexing problem in achieving a tension-free primary lip closure. An innovative noninvasive active intraoral Fixed Pre-Surgical Cleft Orthopedic (FPSCO) appliance is presented that has enabled to successfully reposition the premaxillary segment to a more favorable position prior to the surgical repair in 4 BCL/P patients, who reported late for treatment with a mean age of 18 ± 3 months. All the patients had at least 1 deciduous tooth erupted in 3 cleft segments, 1 premaxilla (PM), and 2 lateral maxillary (LM) segments. This innovative approach is a noninvasive method of getting the cleft segments closer prior to chelioplasty, where conventional presurgical nasoalveolar molding (PNAM) is not possible, which needs to be done early in life as it requires circulating maternal estrogen levels to achieve results preferably possible in patients younger than 3 to 6 months. Bonding to erupted teeth with glass ionomer cement was implemented to secure the appliance. Nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) closed-coil springs were used that delivered continuous forces of 150 g/5 oz per side to retract the premaxillary segment. The mean active period of treatment time was 3.5 ± 1.6 months and the retention period was 1.2 ± 0.6 months, following which cheiloplasty was performed.

RESUMO

Veterinary pharmacovigilance (PV) is important for the Medicine which are used for treating disease in animals. It becomes more important when these animals are further used for producing food. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) have a direct impact on animals and indirect impact on human beings, for example, through milk products, other animal producing food products. Currently, PV program of India is playing a vital role in assessing the safety of medicines in Indian Population. The safety of medicine in animals can be assessed by veterinary PV. The research institutes involved in animal research and veterinary hospitals can be considered as ADR monitoring centers to assess the safety of medicines on animals.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The quality of individual case safety reports (ICSRs) plays a vital role in identifying new safety signals in pharmacovigilance. This article focuses on establishing a method for ensuring the quality data. OBJECTIVE: To develop an in-house method for assessing the documentation grading and completeness score of ICSRs. METHODS: In the proposed method, 16 parameters, from report title to case narrative, are adopted to assess the quality of ICSRs. The in-house method ensures the completeness of the data and enhances the quality of ICSRs. RESULTS: The in-house method was found effective in calculating the completeness score of ICSR ranges from 0.05 to 1. Indian ICSR completeness scores significantly improved after the implementation of the proposed method in the third quarter of 2013. In 2014 and until the third quarter of 2015, the score was found to be 0.91 and 0.93 out of 1, respectively. CONCLUSION: The higher quality ICSRs aids in more effective identification of new drug safety alerts and provides evidence-based information for regulating the drug safety.

RESUMO

The objective of the study was to determine the anticancerous efficacy of Ayurvedic preparation made of Semecarpus anacardium (SA) nuts. Five groups of rats were used for the study. Group I served as water control. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was induced in groups II, III and IV animals using N-nitrosodiethylamine as inducing agent followed by phenobarbitone as promoter for 13 weeks. Group-II animals were kept untreated as hepatocellular carcinoma control. Group-III animals were treated with Ayurvedic milk extract of Semecarpus anacardium nuts at dose mentioned in Ashtangahridaya, an authentic book of Ayurveda for 49 days and group-IV animals were treated with doxorubicin as reference drug at dose of 1mg/kg twice a week for 7 weeks. Group V animals were kept as drug (SA nut milk extract) control for studying the effect of nut milk extract on normal rats. After 154 days of experiment, all animals were subjected to screening for HCC by estimation of liver enzymes, HCC marker (alpha-2 macroglobulin) and histopathology. Both liver enzymes and HCC marker were increased in hepatocellular carcinoma control along with neoplastic changes in liver and were decreased in Semecarpus anacardium nut milk extract treated group. The Ayurvedic drug showed positive correlation with the action of doxorubicin. This study demonstrated the efficacy of Semecarpus anacardium nut milk extract for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma either alone or along with chemotherapy.
