RESUMO

The authors revealed mercury role in pathologic changes of central mechanisms underlying cerebral circulation in metabolic circle, associated with changes in central afferent pathways in thalamic region. Relationship was established between intensity of the diagnosed affect and changes in levels of antibodies to proteins S-100, general myeline protein, myeline-associated glycoprotein - that can indicate general neurodegeneration process. Antibodies level can serve as a marker of demyelination intensity in central pathways under exposure to neurotoxicants.

RESUMO

The hygienic assessment of working conditions of employees exposed to local vibration established that working conditions for employees ofvibration dangerous occupations at the aircraft plant according to the degree from a health standpoint and hazard are referred to the fourth (dangerous) class of the degree of danger that stipulates stable high levels of the morbidity rate. The leading factor is a local vibration that results in the consistently high levels of occupational morbidity rate. There was shown the efficiency of the use of the pulsed magnetic stimulation in the treatment ofpatients with vibration disease associated with the exposure to local vibration. For the evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment in patients the condition of the central nervous system was determined with the use of computer electroencephalography with the registration of visual and auditory evoked potentials and somatosensory evoked potentials; there was studied the state of the peripheral nerves in arms and legs relying upom electromyographic data; there was performed psychological study. After the performance of pulse magnetic stimulation in patients diagnosed to have the vibration diseases there were observed the improvement in the interaction of cortical-subcortical structures and associative areas of the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. After treatment there was noted the shortening of the time of the conduction of the afferent wave of the excitation at the level of the cervical spinal cord, subcortical structures and the central conduction time. There was restored previously reduced the speed of the conduction of the impulse via the distal parts of the tibial and median nerve, through the ulnar nerve in the area of the elbow joint. There was noted the rise in the average temperature on the hands; the decline of thresholds of vibration and pain sensitivity; the improvement of indices characterizing of the state of mnestic- attentional and psycho-emotional scope of activity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Like stable iodine, radioiodines concentrate in the thyroid gland, increasing thyroid cancer risk in exposed children. Data on exposure to the embryonic/fetal thyroid are rare, raising questions about use of iodine 131 (I-131) in pregnant women. We present here estimated risks of thyroid disease from exposure in utero to I-131 fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear accident. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional thyroid screening study (palpation, ultrasound, thyroid hormones, and, if indicated, fine needle aspiration) from 2003 to 2006. Participants were 2582 mother-child pairs from Ukraine in which the mother had been pregnant at the time of the accident on April 26, 1986, or 2 months after the time during which I-131 fallout was still present (1494 from contaminated areas, 1088 in the comparison group). Individual cumulative in utero thyroid dose estimates were derived from estimated I-131 activity in the mother's thyroid (mean 72 mGy; range 0-3230 mGy). RESULTS: There were seven cases of thyroid carcinoma and one case of Hurthle cell neoplasm identified as a result of the screening. Whereas the estimated excess odds ratio per gray for thyroid carcinoma was elevated (excess odds ratio per gray 11.66), it was not statistically significant (P = 0.12). No radiation risks were identified for other thyroid diseases. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that in utero exposure to radioiodines may have increased the risk of thyroid carcinoma approximately 20 yr after the Chernobyl accident, supporting a conservative approach to medical uses of I-131 during pregnancy.

RESUMO

The interaction of intact E. coli cells with polymeric flocculants polyethylenimine and dextran was being studied by spin-labelling. The nitroxyl groups of spin-labelled polymers are reduced during formation of the adsorption layer on the cell surface. Some peculiarities of redox reactions between polymer macroradicals and units of the bacterial electron-transport chain were studied depending of temperature and flocculation regime. The course of the reduction of spin-labelled polymer radicals and characteristics of EPR spectra of the flocculant give evidence on the formation of a loose polymeric layer on the surface of E. coli cells.

RESUMO

The activity of trypsin, common trypsin inhibitor and elastase was evaluated in the blood serum of children with chronic diseases of the digestive organs. The activity of trypsin and its inhibitor was shown to be elevated in most children with both concomitant pancreatitis and without it. Increased activity of the trypsin inhibitor reflects a positive compensatory response of the body to excess trypsin supply to the blood. The activity of serum elastase rises only with exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis.

RESUMO

It was found that manifestation of the tetracycline resistance gene depended on the type of the plasmid containing the gene. The tetracycline resistance gene was subject to less repression in plasmid R6 than in plasmid RP4. Sensitivity of the initial plasmid-free bacteria varied within lower dose ranges than that of the plasmid-carrying strains. Regulation of the tetracycline resistance gene manifestation in the given plasmid may change in different bacterial hosts, i.e. in different cytoplasmic environment at different gene background.

RESUMO

Resistance markers to individual antibiotics are transmitted in E. coli with the same frequency in the shape of a uniform linkage group, and in Proteus mirabilis--with a different one. Possibly in Proteus mirabilis plasmide R6 dissociated, this being expressed in a different incidence of transconjugates, characterized by a different set of antibiotic resistance genes. Tetracyclin resistance gene can be transmitted in P. mirabilis without being bound with other resistance determinants and with the functioning Tra-operon. The expression of individual antibiotic resistance genes of plasmide R6 in P. mirabilis differed, i.e. tetracycline resistance was inducible, and to kanamycin and chloramphenicol--constitutional. The level of expression of the gene controlling the tetracycline resistance was in noninduced condition in P. mirabilis, lower than in E. coli, P. mirabilis containing no R-factor possessed an inducible resistance mechanism to tetracycline, as in case of P. mirabilis strains containing R-factors.
