RESUMO

Using a reductive perturbative expansion of the Vlasov-Maxwell (VM) equations for magnetized plasmas, a pseudodifferential equation of gradient type is derived for the nonlinear dynamics of mirror modes near the instability threshold. This model, where kinetic effects arise at a linear level only, develops a finite-time singularity, indicating the existence of a subcritical bifurcation. A saturation mechanism based on the local variations of the ion Larmor radius, is then phenomenologically supplemented. In contrast with previous models where saturation is due to the cooling of a population of trapped particles, the resulting equation correctly reproduces results of numerical simulations of VM equations, such as the development of magnetic humps from an initial noise, and the existence of stable large-amplitude magnetic holes both below and slightly above threshold.

RESUMO

The epidemiological indices and the methods for detecting tuberculosis have been analyzed in the children and adolescents of the Primorye Territory. It has been established that morbidity among children became stable by 2003 and was 23.6 per 100,000; in adolescents it remains high - 79.5 per 100,000 in 2003. The association of the role of different detection methods with the age group is now a specific feature of tuberculosis in children and adolescents. Mass tuberculin diagnosis plays a decisive role in the detection of tuberculosis only in children aged 5-7 years. In other age groups, tuberculosis is frequently identified at contacts with a physician. Radiation is the leading technique in detecting tuberculosis in adolescents. The consideration of the specific features of tuberculosis detection in relation to the age group assisted one in the selecting the most optimum strategy of tuberculosis control in children and adolescents.

RESUMO

Prevention of infectious inflammatory complications of intraosseous implantation is a pressing problem. Chlorohexidine dosage forms Corsodyl and Eludril were used for this purpose. In the control group, furacillin was used. Microbiological studies showed that instillations of Corsodyl and Eludril solutions during the postoperative period did not modify normal oral microflora and led to disappearance of the most aggressive anaerobic bacteria in 1-3 days. These drugs are more effective that Listerine, and they are recommended for prevention of infectious inflammatory complications after intraosseous implantation.

RESUMO

Studies of immunotropic effects of ampicillin, gentamicin sulfate, lincomycin, and rifampicin SV used in endolymphatic therapy of patients with maxillofacial phlegmons demonstrated a pronounced immunomodulating effect of rifampicin SV in polygluquine. The immunomodulating effect of lincomycin was lower, and that of ampicillin virtually null. Gentamicin sulfate suppressed some parameters of the immune status.

RESUMO

This lecture is a review of recent results (obtained mainly by the author and his co-authors) in the wave collapse theory with applications to plasma physics, fluid dynamics and nonlinear optics as well. The main attention in the review is paid to the qualitative reasons of the wave collapse and to the exact methods based on the integral estimations. Both approaches are applied to both the nonlinear Schrodinger equation and the two-dimensional generalized Benjamin-Ono equation which describes self-focusing of low-frequency oscillations in the boundary layer. RESUMO

Antibacterial activity of sumamed, a macrolide antibiotic, in respect of anaerobic microflora of the oral cavity, such as Bacteroides, Prevotella, Porphyromonas, Fusobacterium, Peptostreptococcus, Str. sanguis and Staph. aureus, was assessed. The drug was found to be highly effective in respect of bacteroids (MPC90: 1,4 to 30 mg/mlMg/ml, this permitting the use of sumamed in the treatment of 9 patients with chronic generalized periodontitis in the exacerbation stage. Bacteriological and clinical control of the results of therapy demonstrated the drug efficacy in respect of periodontopathogenous flora, particularly as regards bacteroids and fusobacteria which maintain the inflammatory process in periodontitis.

RESUMO

Twelve variants of uterine cavity structure were defined on analysis of 52 hysterocervicograms performed in patients with cancer of the uterine body. Using the method of linear programming, the most effective schemes for the location of radiation sources were proposed to ensure optimum dose distribution in intracavitary irradiation. Sources I and II were the main contributors to dose distribution. The use of sequential radiation sources was appropriate in considerable sizes of the uterine cavity. In a spherically shaped uterine cavity dose distribution could be ensured by using only one source, located in the center.

RESUMO

The manufacture of a series of medical electron accelerators LUEV-15M1 is in line with a tendency to equip radiological units in our country with electron linear accelerators. Clinical and dosimetric characteristics of a linear accelerator of this design that are distinguished by a high penetrating power, a high dose gradient along the beam edge, were studied in the Central Research Roentgeno-Radiological Institute. Its main distinctive feature is an ability to exercise programmed control over a depth dose field in the static and moving irradiation regimens by measuring the dose rate. Computed depth dose fields demonstrated an opportunity to use effectively the accelerator for irradiation of deep foci. Ten patients with head, chest and pelvic tumors were irradiated. Short-term positive results were obtained. Radiation complications hampering radiotherapy, were absent. The shortcomings are as follows: a small rotation angle of the irradiator, small movement rates of the diaphragm blocks and the adjustment of a light field, absence of a functionally fixed shaft. The accelerator has been shown to meet medical and technical requirements.

RESUMO

The authors have worked out a technique of control over depth dose fields of the maxillofacial area by placing detectors of a hermoluminescent dosimeter and an ionisation chamber on an individual protective cast in preset points. This simple device makes it possible to exercise an effective and multiple computerized control over the distribution of depth doses.

RESUMO

A series of dose maps have been obtained on the basis of typical isodose maps for moving irradiation of patients with oral tumors, the doses being selected with the help of a specialized computer and dose calculation program for computer ES 1020: in the main cross-sectional plane going through a tumor (y = 0) and in parallel planes 1 cm above [y = -(1-4)] and below [y = -(1-4)] from the main plane within the limits of an irradiation field -1 cm, dose fields have been formed in the sagittal (parasagittal) plane extending through the center of a tumor.

RESUMO

Experiments on animals inoculated intracerebrally with B. pertussis culture No 18-323, serovar 1.2.3, revealed that among sera against B. pertussis strains of different serovars sera against the strains of serovar 1 showed the highest protective potency, and sera against the strains of serovar 1.2 showed the lowest protective potency. In active immunization experiments vaccines from the strains of serovar 1 proved to be least effective, while the immunogenic properties of vaccines from the strains of serovar 1.2 were found to be most pronounced. Since this discrepancy in the above results is due to the fact that the strains of serovar 1 in small doses were unable to create a stable focus of antigenic stimulation, it is not expedient to include strains belonging to serovars other than 1.2 into vaccinal preparations.
