RESUMO
Case report of an accidentally diagnosed supernumerary tooth in the superior orbital fissure. Computed tomography (CT) contributed with a more precise localization of the tooth being situated between the orbit and the brain. CT also showed that there was no cyst or other pathological process around the supernumerary tooth, which is plausible and frequently reported in the literature.

The most common cystic lesion of the maxillary sinuses is the mucosal cyst. In reviewing a 5-years material of 5026 pathological X-ray examinations of the sinuses 12.2% of these were found to have mucosal cysts. These cysts usually do not give rise to symptoms and require no treatment, but are often erroneously diagnosed as polyps, compact maxillary sinuses, hypertrophy of the lining mucosa or tumors. As radiologic examination of the sinuses is a common procedure and the diagnosis of a mucosal cyst is possible other diagnoses may not be given in most cases.

Three cases of antro-choanal polyps are discussed. It was possible to detect pendulation of the parts of the polyps situated in the epipharynx by comparison of AP x-ray films with lateral tomographic series exposed with the patient in lateral recumbent position. Computerized tomography could be used for examination and detection of pendulation in a similar way. As pendulation is possible only in stalked epipharyngeal processes it seems reasonable to use this phenomenon as a diagnostic sign of choanal polyps.

The experiences of a simplified multiscreen millimeterlayer ear-tomography technique are reported. The number of patients examined 1969-1978 was 2000 and of these 730 were subjected to microsurgery. The accuracy of the tomographic method was evaluated by a correlation between the preoperative radiographic diagnoses and the peroperative findings. The diagnostic accuracy of multiscreen tomography was much better than expected. The advantages of the method are discussed. It is concluded that multiscreen millimeterlayer eartomography may profitably be used not only in larger departments but also in smaller units.

PIP: 275 cases of venous thrombosis were compared, and a conspicuous difference between clinical and phlebographic findings was discovered. The size alone of the thrombus has no relation to the symptoms it produces. 7 factors are presented to explain this lack of correlation: 1) Thrombosis in the rigid crural fascia causes more marked clinical symptoms than in other locations. 2) The larger the venous area to which the thrombus attaches itself, the more serious the symptoms. 3) In cases of deep venous thrombosis, if the superficial veins have dilated to aid collateral flow, venous congestion, an early indication of thrombosis, will be absent. 4) Ambulant patients have more pronounced symptoms than bed patients. 5) The faster a thrombus grows, the more marked are the symptoms of thrombosis. 6) Thrombosis can often be 1st diagnosed when the thrombus blocks the blood flow between the deep and the superficial veins. 7) Severe symptoms can arise if an earlier a symptomatic thrombus suddenly blocks the femoral canal.^ieng
