RESUMO
Salivary protein spectrum was studied by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in 80 patients with psychogenic affective disorders, 80 with rheumatic and 10 with reactive arthritis, and 9 patients with chronic renal insufficiency in the presence of depression. Control group consisted of 60 healthy subjects. The results indicate that depression is associated with decreased content of protein in different fractions of the spectrum, the most marked decrease being observed for the fraction with molecular weight of about 55 kD. The optical density of this fraction decreases to 0.11 units in depression (versus 0.17 +/- 0.02 in the control), which suggests that this method can be used for the diagnosis of depressions.

In 93 patients with mental disorders evoked bioelectrical activity of brain was studied in states of changed consciousness. Methods of evoked potentials and conditioned negative wave were applied. The obtained data allow to consider that in parameters and dynamics of bioelectrical activity changes of consciousness sphere are reflected.

A study of the functional activity of ascending projectional systems in 90 patients with medium progressive(paranoid) schizophrenia demonstrated a correlation between the parameters of evoked potentials and the clinical signs of the disease. During the early paranoidal stage of the pathological process, there was a certain activity of the nonspecific brain areas. As the disease progresses from paranoid states to signs of "secondary"catatonia, there ensues the blockade of the information conduction through nonspecific areas along with a progressive increase in the activity of specific afferent brain projections.
