RESUMO

A cross-sectional descriptive study conducted on 250 sexually transmitted disease patients was carried out in two teaching institutes and their tertiary hospitals. These subjects constitute a special group of population for psychiatric diagnosis by using Structured Clinical Interview for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IIIR. The study was done in the dermatology and venereology outpatient department of two tertiary hospitals of Dhaka, between January 1998 and January 1999. The findings show that 34% of total sexually transmitted disease patients had psychiatric disorders. Anxiety disorders (11.2%) were found to be the most common disorder among these psychiatric patients; this was followed by depressive disorder (8.4%), psychoactive substance use disorder (6.8%), sexual dysfunction (6.8%), bipolar mood disorder (0.4%), and schizophrenia (0.4%). Four percent of anxiety disorder was associated with psychoactive substance use disorder and sexual dysfunction. Similarly 3.6% of depressive disorder was found with psychoactive substance use disorder and sexual dysfunction while 1.6% of sexual dysfunction was associated with substance use disorder. Most of the patients in the sexually transmitted disease population recruited in the present study had both anxiety disorder and depressive disorder though majority of them were undetected and untreated. These findings underscore that special attention needs to be given to the mental health component of our health care delivery system.

RESUMO

The structural and dielectric properties of sol-gel derived barium-strontium-titanate (Ba(0.4)Sr(0.6)TiO(3 )) thin films have been investigated. The as-fired films are found to be amorphous, and films crystallize to a cubic phase after a post deposition annealing at 700 degrees C for one hour in air. The variation of dielectric constant with temperature and field was investigated as a function of film thickness. These films display a nonlinear dielectric response that can be described in terms of a power series expansion of the free energy in polarization as in Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire approach. The measured room temperature dielectric constant (epsilon') of the film was about 320. The dielectric constant did not show any significant frequency dependence up to 100 kHz. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant exhibited a diffused ferroelectric to paraelectric phase transition at -60 degrees C. The room temperature dielectric constant and magnitude of the dielectric peak at the Curie point was dependent on the thickness of the film. The obtained dielectric data on sol-gel barium strontium titanate thin films on platinized substrates were analyzed in the light of a barrier layer model.

RESUMO

A case of urinothorax is reported in a 19-year-old girl with multiple injuries sustained in an auto accident. Thus blung injury to the right kidney was followed 8 days later by reduced urinary output and serous chest tube drainage. Intravenous dye injection showed dye in urine and in chest tube fluid, and the macerated right kidney was removed. The right pleural effusion then cleared with further drainage. The mechanism by which urine is transferred across the intact diaphragm is thought to be lymphatic drainage.
