RESUMO

As a sensor of the olfactory system, olfactory epithelium plays an important role in the olfactory system. In addition, olfactory epithelium is the only neuroepithelial epithelium in mammals that can maintain its self-renewal all along. There are of great significance in researching regenerating and repairing neural tissues, transplanting and treatment neural stem cells as well as the occurrence of olfactory disorders and intervention. This review will describe the characteristics of olfactory epithelial stem cells, and mainly summerize the function and significance of each transcription factor in the process of olfactory epithelial stem cell development and differentiation, in order to provide new ideas for the study of olfactory epithelial stem cells.

RESUMO

Laryngeal cancer (LC) is one of the most common malignant tumors that occur in the head and neck. Emerging evidence shows that coding RNAs and non-coding RNAs play key roles in the formation and progression of LC. In this review, we focus on the regulation of lncRNAs in LC. LncRNAs appear to be involved in laryngeal cancer growth, invasion, and metastasis and in establishment of the laryngeal tumor microenvironment through various mechanisms. Furthermore, we also discuss the possibilities of establishing lncRNAs as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for laryngeal cancer. Taken together, we summarize the emerging roles of lncRNAs in laryngeal cancer development and their possible clinical significance.

RESUMO

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) located unilateral perirenal without aorta involvement is very rare. We report a case of unilateral perirenal fibrosis which was misdiagnosed as malignancy even after biopsy. RPF should be in mind in dealing with perirenal mass.

RESUMO

Aedes triseriatus oviposition in standard, horizontally open (open top) ovitraps was compared with that in vertically open (open-sided) ovitraps during 1989 in a deciduous woodland in southern Illinois. This comparison was to determine whether female oviposition preference changed as a result of seasonal photoperiod changes. Results show that Ae. triseriatus females prefer horizontally open ovitraps regardless of whether they are depositing eggs which hatch shortly after deposition or whether the eggs diapause because of shortened late summer/early fall photoperiods.

RESUMO

Data from pyramid and electrocuting traps as well as records of Musca vitripennis Meigen interceptions on cargo aircraft indicate that M. vitripennis adults reach peak abundance on Lajes Field, Azores, from mid-August through mid-October. Disinsection of military cargo aircraft and other quarantine actions to prevent accidental movement of flies from the Azores to airports in the United States are required during this period.

RESUMO

Soil samples collected during 1975 and 1976 from United States Air Force installations in California, Georgia, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah were analyzed for organochlorine pesticide residues. Sigma DDT, chlordane, and dieldrin were the pesticides most commonly found. In 1975, sigma DDT residues were significantly higher in samples from residential areas than in samples from golf courses or areas free of pesticide application. Chlordane residues in 1975 were significantly higher in both residential and golf course areas than in areas where pesticides had not been used. No significant differences were found in 1976 in residue levels of any pesticide monitored among various land use areas.
