RESUMO

Application of ioddicerynum while performance of an urgent operative intervention in 63 patients with an acute appendicitis, perforated gastroduodenal ulcer and an old postoperative abscess of anterior abdominal wall had permitted to lower the occurrence frequency for postoperative purulent complications by two times.

RESUMO

Comparative ecological strategy for choosing the causative agents of melioidosis and glanders, pseudotuberculosis and plague after McArthur [correction of Macartura] and Wilson were studied. The kinetic analysis of the populations of these bacilli in the steppe neocultured chestnut soil formed a basis of the study with the consideration of data on their growth and death in artificial culture media. To identify the types of selection, the authors defined the rate of growth, the level of population stabilization, the dependence of the object growth rate on their population density, the survival capacity under competitive conditions. The kinetic analysis indicated that the causative agents of melioidosis and pseudotuberculosis have all necessary potentials for active soil existence and this substrate may be considered to be their reservoir; the plague bacillus has no such potentials and the telluric theory of plague does not withstand experimental tests. It is concluded that to define a selection strategy may be regarded as a new guideline for studying and identifying the reservoirs of causative agents of sapronoses and infections with the supposed sources of non-animal origin.

RESUMO

The authors have demonstrated the possibility of using solid-phase enzyme immunoassay to detect specific circulating immune complexes without their preliminary separation in guinea pigs infected with Pseudomonas mallei and Pseudomonas pseudomallei. They have examined the prospects of using neutrophil injury test and solid-phase enzyme immunoassay for the detection of specific immune complexes as additional tests used to predict the outcome of an infectious process in glanders and melioidosis.

RESUMO

The use of a dressing with silver nitrate stabilized in dimexide in the treatment of 33 patients with phlegmons of different location permitted to reduce the duration of wound preparation for placing sutures, autodermoplasty 2-2.5 fold when compared to the control group of 30 patients, who were treated by conventional methods.

RESUMO

The strategy of the selection (life) of P. pseudomallei has been defined as C-competitiveness, combining the advantages of the limited (r and K) types of the ecological strategies of microorganisms and ensuring their good capacity of survival in soil biota. The self-regulation mechanisms of P. pseudomallei populations in the environment are determined by the type of their strategy of selection, which also determines the place of this species among other organisms inhabiting the soil. C-competitiveness of P. pseudomallei permits the realization of the self-support of its populations under changing conditions of their habitat, in particular in vivo.

RESUMO

The growth and death of Pseudomonas pseudomallei, the causative agent of melioidosis, in the soil and the antigenic properties of this microorganism in the soil, in culture media, and in the body of animals have been studied. As revealed in this study, P. pseudomallei can grow in nonsterile soil substrates without the loss of virulence and changes in its antigenic structure. In the body of animals this microorganism rapidly adapts its virulence to host species by the transformation of its antigenic structure. The pathogenicity factors of P. pseudomallei are mainly thermolabile antigens, probably exoenzymes. This microorganism has been shown to have close ecological relations with abiotic environmental objects. The author suggests that the type of relationship between saprophytic microorganisms acting as causative agents of diseases and warm-blooded hosts should be characterized as pseudoparasitic.
