[Prevention of secondary neurotic and other mental disorders in traumatic epilepsy]. / Profilaktika vtorichnykh nevroticheskikh i drugikh psikhicheskikh rasstroistv pri travmaticheskoi épilepsii.

A study was made of the effect of risk factors and the clinical picture of the prodromal period in 184 patients with traumatic epilepsy, of the efficacy of nootropic and long-acting psychotropic drugs in combined treatment. The risk factors were brain contusions, open cranial injuries, particularly in frontotemporal areas, comatose states after injury lasting over 6 hours, successive fits in the acute period of injury, episodic disorders of dull consciousness. Administration of nootropic and long-acting drugs brought about a reduction of the cerebral asthenic symptomatology and stabilization of emotional disturbances which promoted prevention of secondary neurotic and other mental disorders in patients with traumatic epilepsy.

[Nootropic agents in the complex treatment of patients with traumatic epilepsy]. / Nootropy v kompleksnom lechenii bol'nykh travmaticheskoi épilepsiei.

A study was made of the therapeutic efficacy of nootropic agents in multimodality treatment of 62 patients with traumatic epilepsy. The treatment efficacy was appraised with regard to the time-course of changes in psychopathological symptomatology. The data obtained have been processed statistically according to criteria for the signs. When applied in multimodality treatment of patients with traumatic epilepsy the nootropic agents turned out most efficacious for the psycho-organic syndrome and for the status of deranged consciousness. The use of the nootropic agents as part of rehabilitation therapy allows improvement of the secondary prophylaxis of traumatic epilepsy.

[Early diagnosis of traumatic epilepsy]. / Ranniaia diagnostika travmaticheskoi épilepsii.

The risk factors and clinical course of prodromal period were studied in 184 patients with traumatic epilepsy. Statistically reliable as predictors of traumatic epilepsy were: brain concussion++, open lesions of the skull, repeated craniocerebral trauma, comatose after-trauma states lasting over more than 6 hours, episodes of consciousness confusion, myoclonic spells. The establishment of the risk factors in the prodromal stage of posttraumatic epilepsy provides means for the early diagnose, secondary prevention and social-hygienic measures designing.

[Prevention of traumatic epilepsy in ambulatory care facilities]. / Profilaktika travmaticheskoi épilepsii v ambuliatornykh usloviiakh.

The causes of 1382 readmissions of 156 patients with traumatic epilepsy were studied with regard to the seasonal and pathogenic factors. It was established that readmissions of patients with traumatic epilepsy directly correlated with the spring and autumn seasons and 8 pathogenic factors (no maintenance therapy, psychogenias, dysphorias, intoxication with antiepileptic drugs, alcoholization, infectious diseases and inadequate rehabilitative measures). The data obtained will help neuropathologists and psychiatrists to time repeated prophylaxis of traumatic epilepsy under outpatient conditions.

[Clinico-electroencephalographic features of patients with cerebral atherosclerosis and an epileptiform syndrome]. / Kliniko-élektroéntsefalograficheskie osobennosti bol'nykh tserebral'nym aterosklerozom s épileptiformnym sindromom.

Fifty-six patients with cerebral atherosclerosis and epileptiform symptomatology presented an organic defect with signs of lacunar imbecility and atherosclerotic asthenia. Electroencephalographic studies revealed no correlation between the clinical picture and EEG findings. Electroencephalographic parameters in patients reflect the nature of the vascular disease.

[Rehabilitation of patients with traumatic epilepsy]. / Reabilitatsiia bol'nykh travmaticheskoi épilepsiei.

The results of multimodality rehabilitation treatment of 85 patients with traumatic epilepsy are presented. Complete social compensation or less pronounced compensation was achieved in 61 patients with regressive and slowly progressive course of the disease. Complete disadaptation occurred in 12 patients with the progressive type of the disease. The multimodality treatment with the use of anticonvulsants should include drugs of metabolic action (nootropic agents), neuroleptics and tranquilizers.

[Initial manifestations of epilepsy secondary to a residual organic lesion of the central nervous system]. / Nachal'nye proiavleniia épilepsii, razvivsheisia na fone rezidual'no-organicheskogo porazheniia tsentral'noi nervnoi sistemy.

Examination of 61 children suffering from epilepsy revealed the presence of premanifest asthenic conditions in cases where epilepsy was secondary to some residual organic injury. Early detection and adequate evaluation of these states may be conducive to the prevention of epileptic attacks.
