[Medical gas humidifier UMG-1].

Problems of development of medical gas humidifiers of new generation are discussed. It is concluded that many of these problems can be solved using general purpose microprocessors. Basic structures, functional diagrams, and specifications of these devices are considered taking the medical gas humidifier UMG-1 as an example.

The structure and parameters of a universal module designed for the control systems of medical devices are presented in the paper. An example of applying the module with an actual medical device, i.e. the humidifier of medical gases, is described.

[Intermittent forced ventilation of the lungs with series "PO" IVL apparatus]. / Peremezhaiushchaiasia prinuditel'naia ventiliatsiia legkikh s pomoshch'iu apparatov iskusstvennoi ventiliatsii legkikh serii "RO".

The authors suppose that the intermittent ventilation (IMV) may be provided by the connection of an additional respiratory appliance made on the basis of a standard narcosis attachment of "Polynarcon" type with a respirator "PO" and the patient. A specific feature of this modified respiratory appliance is the bellows which fulfiles the function of a reserved capacity for a breath and a damper when in the smoothed out (hung up) state. The intubation tube is fastened to the T-joint adapter of the narcosis attachment (the scheme is shown), the hose being detached from the expiration valve and connected with the respirator T-joint adapter (to the place of the intubation tube). On the termination of the forced breath the patient can (if he has enough force to open the expiration valve) fulfill a self-dependent breath from the additional respiration appliance (the expiration is fulfilled into the respirator as during the forced breath). A method of realization of IMV in the "PO" type respirators which have been produced in lots by the "Krasnogvardeets" firm since 2000-2002 is described.

[Noninvasive determination of oxyhemoglobin in arterial blood]. / Neinvazivnoe opredelenie oksigemoglobina v arterial'noi krovi.

The authors describe the principles of noninvasive measurements of oxyhemoglobin content in the arterial blood by processing the signals obtained as a result of passing the light waves of the infrared (940 nm) and red (660 nm) wave bands through tissues. The data obtained with the first Russian pulse oximeter and with the hemoximeter were found to coincide. The diagnostic value of oximetry is discussed.

[Effects of the delay of electromagnetic distributor release on the performance of artificial lung ventilation devices]. / Vliianie zaderzhki otpuskaniia élektromagnitnykh raspredelitelei na rabotu apparatov iskusstvennoi ventilatsii legkikh.

Over the past years, medical industry has been manufacturing series-produced outfits of the PO-6H-05 type for artificial pulmonary ventilation (APV), in which the movement of the bellows of the respiratory contour is exercised at the expense of the switching by electromagnetic distributors (EMD). The reduction of the time of EMD release, that monitors the bellows movement upwards raises the accuracy of the indicator readings of the APV outfit of the PO-6t-05 type relative to the waste gas volumes. To decrease the time of EMD release, it is necessary to adhere to requirement 11. The magnitudes of the errors made are depicted by formula 9.

[Method and results of the study of excursion of peripheral arterial (precapillary) walls]. / Metod i rezul'taty issledovaniia ékskursii stenok perifericheskikh arterial'nykh sosudov (prekapilliarov).

A photoelectric method was employed for examining excursion of peripheral arterial vessels (precapillaries) walls in the middle of the first phalanx of the forefinger of man. The magnitude of the mean amplitude of walls excursion was found to be equal to about 18.5 microns. It is concluded that the shape and amplitude of the curve obtained may serve the basis for estimating the tone of the precapillaries, the time of the volume increase/decrease, and the extent of vascular enlargement.

[Tick-borne encephalitis in the Maritime Territory]. / Kleshchevoi éntsefalit v Primorskom krae.

On the basis of epidemiological analysis carried out at the period of 1940-1987, a decrease in tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) morbidity was registered; at the same time time the disease invariably took, as before, a clinically severe course. The most dangerous foci of TBE were found to be located in the southern Okhotsk region grown with dark coniferous forests. The subsiding and activation of the natural foci of TBE in different regions of the territory were established and some heretofore unknown foci in southern regions of the Maritime Territory were found. Ixodes mites inhabiting the Maritime Territory were shown to have a low level of virus carriership, thus causing the low level of population immunity to TBE virus. Combined foci of TBE and Powassan encephalitis were found.
