[Polarographically active fraction of alpha 1-unstable glycoprotein in the blood serum during the malignant process]. / Poliarograficheski aktivnaia fraktsiia al'fa 1-nestabil'nogo glikoproteina v syvorotke krovi pri zlokachestvennom protsesse.

The simple method of polarographical testing of the peripheral blood serum is recommended as a part of the complex cancer diagnosis for the evaluation of the effectivity of cancer treatment and for the mass preventive examination. This method modified by I. A. Pelishenko (POISK-test) has permitted detecting a protein substance in the serum of cancer patients as well as in the serum both of the rats bearing Pliss sarcoma and in the serum of the irradiated dogs. It was proved that this protein indicates the presence of malignancy and represents polarographically active fraction of the alpha 1-unstable glycoprotein. This substance was designated as "Informative Pelishenko Protein" (IPP), and may be revealed by the polarographic indicator (IPM-01) made in Leningrad.

[Clinico-immunologic changes in patients with cervical cancer after treatment with thymalin]. / Kliniko-immunologicheskie izmeneniia u bol'nykh rakom sheiki matki pod vozdeistviem timalina.

The results of a clinical study of a polypeptide preparation of the thymus-thymalin in 50 patients with cervical carcinoma are discussed. Thymalin was found to exert a beneficial effect in various immuno-suppressive states involved in carcinoma of uterine cervix. Since the preparation has a distinct stimulating effect, its administration should be included into different schemes of complex therapy of cervical carcinoma.

Certain clinical and immunological symptoms detected in patients with lymphogranulomatoses are studied for their interrelation with immunological processes which occur in the lymphoid tissue affected by the lymphogranulomatosis. A hypothetic scheme of such an interrelation is presented.

[Use of the pepsinogen-pepsin test in examining persons at high risk of stomach cancer]. / Ispol'zovanie testa na pepsinogen-pepsin pri obsledovanii lits povyshennogo riska zabolevaniia rakom zheludka.

The paper deals with the description of a simple, time-saving and sufficiently precise procedure of determining the activity and level of pepsinogen-pepsin in the gastric juice of healthy subjects and those at high risk for stomach carcinoma by means of photography. The level of pepsinogen-pepsin in the gastric juice of stomach cancer patients is generally found to be very low or nil. A considerable drop in the enzyme's activity is also observed in cases of polyposis of gastric mucosa as well as in ana- and hypoacidic states. The procedure may be used for assessment of the secretory function of gastric mucosa and screening for groups at high risk for stomach carcinoma.

[T- and B-lymphocyte changes in lymphogranulomatosis]. / Izmeneniia T- i B-limfotsitov u bol'nykh limfogranulematozom.

Under study were T- and B-systems of immunity in patients with lymphogranulomatosis, and these were correlated with clinical findings (the stage, intoxication, the effect of chemotherapy). Blastransformation reaction (RBT) with phytohemagglutinin (PHA), direct blasttransformation with sheep erythrocytes, immunofluorescence were estimated. The absolute amount of lymphocytes in 1 ml and also T- and B-cells were counted. Already in the stage I--II there was noted a reduction in the amount of T-lymphocytes and RBT to PHA. These changes in cell immunity were aggravated in the stage III B and stage IV B in particular. After the chemotherapy conducted according to the MOPP programme in most patients the immunological background would be more unfavourable. There was noted a relationship between the immune indice stability during chemotherapy for lymphogranulomatosis and the duration of remission.

[T- and B-lymphocytes in lymphogranulomatosis]. / T- i B-limfotsity u bol'nykh limfogranulematozom.

The authors report the results of the complex investigation of T-and B-lymphocytes in peripheral blood and functional features of T-cells in the reaction of blasttransformation with PHA in 27 patients with lymphogranulomatosis and in 30 healthy individuals. Generalized forms of lymphogranulomatosis of stage III-IV (in 21 of 27 patients) were predominating. All patients showed an active phase of the lesion. T-system immunity was found to be suppressed, that was manifested in reduced T-cells number, a decreased lymphocytes RBT to PHA per one or two dilutions. It is supposed that the observed T-lymphocytes disorders is one of the causes of the impairment of cell immunity reactions, found in vivo in patients with lymphogranulomatosis.
