RESUMO

For the effectiveness of a computer-aided diagnosis system, the quality of whole-slide image (WSI) is the foundation, and a useful autofocus method is an important part of ensuring the quality of WSI. The existing autofocus methods need to balance focusing speed and focusing accuracy, and need to be optimized separately for different samples or scenes. In this paper, a robust autofocus method based on fiber bundle illumination and image normalization analysis is proposed. For various application scenes, it meets the requirements of autofocusing through active illumination, such as bright field imaging and fluorescence imaging. For different structures on samples, it ensures the autofocusing accuracy through image analysis. The experimental results imply that the autofocusing method in this paper can effectively track the change of the distance from the sample to the focal plane and significantly improve the WSI quality.

RESUMO

In this paper, the seeds and rinds of passion fruit, which are the agricultural waste of juice processing, were recycled to investigate their biological activities for sustainable use. De-oiled seed powders (S) were successively extracted by refluxing 95% ethanol (95E), 50E, and hot water (HW), respectively, to obtain S-95EE, S-50EE, and S-HWE. Dried rind powders were successively extracted by refluxing HW and 95E to obtain rind-HWE and rind-95EE, respectively. S-50EE and S-95EE showed the most potent extracts, such as anti-amyloid-ß1-42 aggregations and anti-acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, and they exhibited neuroprotective activities against amyloid-ß25-35-treated or H2O2-treated SH-SY5Y cells. Scirpusin B and piceatannol were identified in S-95EE, S-50EE, and rind-HWE, and they showed anti-acetylcholinesterase activity at 50% inhibitory concentrations of 62.9 and 258.9 µM, respectively. Daily pretreatments of de-oiled seed powders and rind-HWE (600 mg/kg), S-95EE, and S-50EE (250 mg/kg) or scirpusin B (40 mg/kg) for 7 days resulted in improved learning behavior in passive avoidance tests and had significant differences (p < 0.05) compared with those of the control in scopolamine-induced ICR mice. The seeds and rinds of passion fruit will be recycled as materials for the development of functional foods, promoting neuroprotection and delaying the onset of cognitive dysfunctions.

RESUMO

Rapid and accurate cancer drug screening is of great importance in precision medicine. However, the limited amount of tumor biopsy samples has hindered the application of traditional drug screening methods with microwell plates for individual patients. A microfluidic system provides an ideal platform for handling trace amounts of samples. This emerging platform has a good role in nucleic acid-related and cell related assays. Nevertheless, convenient drug dispensing remains a challenge for clinical on-chip cancer drug screening. Similar sized droplets are merged to add drugs for a desired screened concentration which significantly complicated the on-chip drug dispensing protocols. Here, we introduce a novel digital microfluidic system with a specially structured electrode (a drug dispenser) to dispense drugs by droplet electro-ejection under a high-voltage actuation signal, which can be conveniently adjusted by external electric controls. With this system, the screened drug concentrations span up to four orders of magnitude with small sample consumption. Various amounts of drugs can be delivered to the cell sample with desired amount in a flexible electric control. Moreover, single drug or combinatorial multidrug on-chip screening can be readily achieved. The drug response of normal MCF-10A breast cells and MDA-MB-231 breast tumor cells to two chemotherapeutic substances, cisplatin (Cis) and epirubicin (EP), was tested individually and in combination for proof-of-principle verification. The comparable on-chip and off-chip results confirmed the feasibility of our innovative DMF system for cancer drug screening.

RESUMO

Selenium is an essential micronutrient that is beneficial to human health. Selenium-containing drugs have been developed as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer agents. However, the synthesis of selenium-containing chalcones has not been fully explored. Therefore, we report the synthesis of novel selenophene-based chalcone analogs and reveal their biological activities as anticancer agents. Among the seven synthesized molecules, compounds 6, 8, and 10 exhibited anticancer activity with IC50 values of 19.98 ± 3.38, 38.23 ± 3.30, and 46.95 ± 5.68 µM, respectively, against human colorectal adenocarcinoma (HT-29) cells. Clonogenic assays and Western blot analysis tests further confirmed that compound 6 effectively induced apoptosis in HT-29 cells through mitochondrial- and caspase-3-dependent pathways.

RESUMO

In this paper, the syntheses of twelve asymmetric curcumin analogs using Pabon's method are reported. Generally, the previously reported yields of asymmetric curcuminoids, such as 9a (53%), 9c (38%), and 9k (38%), have been moderate or low. Herein, we propose that the low yields were due to the presence of water and n-BuNH2 in the reaction media. To prove this formulated hypothesis, we have demonstrated that the yields can be improved by adding molecular sieves (MS) (4 Å) to the reaction mixture, thus reducing the interference of water. Therefore, improved yields (41-76%) were obtained, except for 9b (36.7%), 9g (34%), and 9l (39.5%). Furthermore, compounds 9b, 9d, 9e, 9f, 9g, 9h, 9i, 9j, and 9l are reported herein for the first time. The structures of these synthetic compounds were determined by spectroscopic and mass spectrometry analyses. The free radical scavenging ability of these synthetic asymmetric curcuminoids was evaluated and compared to that of the positive control butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Among the synthesized asymmetric curcuminoids, compounds 9a (IC50 = 37.57 ± 0.89 µM) and 9e (IC50 = 37.17 ± 1.76 µM) possessed effective 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging abilities, and compounds 9h (IC50 = 11.36 ± 0.65 µM) and 9i (IC50 = 10.91 ± 0.77 µM) displayed potent 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS) radical scavenging abilities comparable to that of curcumin (IC50 = 10.14 ± 1.04 µM). Furthermore, all the synthetic asymmetric curcuminoids were more active than BHT.

RESUMO

Under the background of climate change, the steel industry is considered one of the least eco-friendly industries. Flax fiber-reinforced polymer (FFRP) is an emerging sustainable alternative to steel reinforcement bar; however, its application is much restricted due to its interior material properties. This paper proposed a novel way to form closed-shape stirrups with FFRP, which is suitable for replacing steel stirrups. A multi-disciplinary investigation was conducted concerning the structural and environmental performance of FFRP stirrups in reinforced concrete (RC) beams. Seven specimens were tested under a three-point bending load. The FFRP stirrups substantially increased the shear capacity and ultimate vertical displacement by 77% and 74%, respectively, and shifted brittle failure to ductile failure. The closed-shape stirrups avoided the stress concentration and increased the utilization of FFRP tensile capacity to over 80%. Decreasing the spacing of FFRP stirrups effectively increased the shear capacity and ductility; increasing the width or layer of FFRP stirrups improved ductility only. A life cycle assessment (LCA) was later performed to evaluate and compare the environmental performance of steel, FFRP, and carbon FRP stirrups. As compared to carbon FRP and steel ones, FFRP stirrups substantially decreased the global warming and fossil depletion potential by over 60%. The main contributors to the environmental impacts of FFRP stirrups were the heavy metal released into the water and terrestrial environment during the cultivation process.

RESUMO

Portulaca oleracea is a well-known species for traditional medicine and food homology in Taiwan. In traditional medicine, P. oleracea is also used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, liver inflammation, fever, severe inflammation, and headaches. We investigated antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-α-glucosidase activities of various solvent extracts and major bioactive components from P. oleracea. Ethanol and acetone extracts showed potent DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities. Chloroform and n-hexane extracts displayed significant superoxide radical scavenging activity. Furthermore, ethyl acetate and acetone extracts of P. oleracea showed potent anti-tyrosinase and anti-α-glucosidase activities. Examined and compared to the various solvent extracts for their chemical compositions using HPLC analysis, we isolated seven major compounds and analyzed their antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-α-glucosidase activities. Seven active compounds of P. oleracea, especially quercetin, rosmarinic acid, and kaempferol, exhibited obvious antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-α-glucosidase activities. The molecular docking model and the hydrophilic interactive mode of tyrosinase and α-glucosidase revealed that active compounds might have a higher antagonistic effect than commonly inhibitors. Our result shows that the active solvent extracts and their components of P. oleracea have the potential as natural antioxidants, tyrosinase and α-glucosidase inhibitors. Our results suggest that the active solvent extracts of P. oleracea and their components have potential as natural antioxidants, tyrosinase and α-glucosidase inhibitors.

RESUMO

We synthesized multiple cinnamils and quinoxalines to evaluate their anticancer activity. Cinnamils were used as precursors for quinoxalines via condensation with 1,2-diaminobenzene. Among the 26 synthesized compounds reported in this article, we found that cinnamil 3l exhibited its inhibitory effect with an IC50 value of 1.45 ± 0.98 µM, significantly higher than doxorubicin (8.5 ± 0.85 µM) against pancreatic cancer cells (PANC-1). Additionally, cinnamil 3l (IC50 10.98 ± 3.63 µM) showed less cytotoxicity than doxorubicin to Hs68 cells (0.92 ± 1.11 µM). The colony formation assay demonstrated that 3l obviously decreased the PANC-1 cell viability, and Western blot assays confirmed that 3l markedly induced apoptosis of PANC-1 cells through Bax, Bcl-2, and caspase 3 signaling cascades. These results demonstrate that cinnamil 3l has great potential to be further developed as a promising chemotherapeutic agent for pancreatic cancer.

RESUMO

Nanomaterials filled polymers system is a simple method to produce organic/inorganic hybrid with synergistic or complementary effects. The properties of nanocomposites strongly depend on the dispersion effects of nanomaterials in the polymer and their interfaces. The optimized interface of nanocomposites would decrease the barrier height between filler and polymer for charge transfer. To avoid aggregation of metal nanoparticles and improve interfacial charge transfer, Pt nanodots filled in the non-conjugated polymer was synthesized with an in situ method. The results exhibited that the absorbance of nanocomposite covered from the visible light region to NIR (near infrared). The photo-current responses to typical visible light and 808 nm NIR were studied based on Au gap electrodes on a flexible substrate. The results showed that the size of Pt nanoparticles was about 1-2 nm and had uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix. The resulting nanocomposite exhibited photo-current switching behavior to weak visible light and NIR. Simultaneously, the nanocomposite also showed electrical switching responses to strain applied to a certain extent. Well-dispersion of Pt nanodots in the polymer is attributable to the in situ synthesis of metal nanodots, and photo-current switching behavior is due to interface optimization to decrease barrier height between metal filler and polymer. It provided a simple way to obtain organic/inorganic hybrid with external stimuli responses and multi-functionalities.

RESUMO

Microfluidics has been the most promising platform for drug screening with a limited number of cells. However, convenient on-chip preparation of a wide range of drug concentrations remains a large challenge and has restricted wide acceptance of microfluidics in precision medicine. In this paper, we report a digital microfluidic system with an innovative control structure and chip design for on-chip drug dispensing to generate concentrations that span three to four orders of magnitude, enabling single drug or combinatorial multi-drug screening with simple electronic control. Specifically, we utilize droplet ejection from a drug drop sitting on a special electrode, named a drug dispenser, under high-voltage pulse actuation to deliver the desired amount of drugs to be picked up by a cell suspension drop driven by low-voltage sine wave actuation. Our proof-of-principle validation for this technique as a convenient single and multi-drug screening involved testing of the drug toxicity of two chemotherapeutics, cisplatin (Cis) and epirubicin (EP), towards MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells and MCF-10A normal breast cells. The results are consistent with those screened based on traditional 96-well plates. These findings demonstrate the reliability of the drug screening system with an on-chip drug dispenser. This system with fewer cancer cells, less drug consumption, a small footprint, and high scalability with regard to concentration could pave the way for drug screening on biopsied primary tumor cells for precision medicine or any concentration-related research.

RESUMO

Myristica fragrans is a well-known species for flavoring many food products and for formulation of perfume and medicated balm. It is also used to treat indigestion, stomach ulcers, liver disorders, and, as emmenagogue, diaphoretic, diuretic, nervine, and aphrodisiac. We examined antioxidant properties and bioactive compounds in various solvent extracts from the seeds of M. fragrans. Methanol, ethanol, and acetone extracts exhibited relatively strong antioxidant activities by 2,2-diphenyl-1-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)hydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), superoxide radical, and hydroxyl radical scavenging tests. Furthermore, methanol extracts also displayed significant anti-α-glucosidase activity. Examined and compared to the various solvent extracts for their chemical compositions using HPLC analysis, we isolated the ten higher content compounds and analyzed antioxidant and anti-α-glucosidase activities. Among the isolates, dehydrodiisoeugenol, malabaricone B and malabaricone C were main antioxidant components in seeds of M. fragrans. Malabaricone C exhibited stronger antioxidant capacities than others based on lower half inhibitory concentration (IC50) values in DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays, and it also showed significant inhibition of α-glucosidase. These results shown that methanol was found to be the most efficient solvent for extracting the active components from the seeds of M. fragrans, and this material is a potential good source of natural antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitor.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of uniportal and three-portal VATS in lung cancer patients on the postoperative short-term quality of life (QOL). METHODS: A single-center, prospective, nonrandomized study was performed on patients who underwent uniportal or three-portal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy and systemic mediastinal lymph node dissection. QOL was measured before surgery at baseline and at one, two, four, and eight weeks after the operation. The measured data of normal distribution were indicated by the mean ± standard deviation, the independent sample t-test was used among the groups, and the χ2 test was used to compare the counting. Non-normal distribution of the measurement data was carried out using the Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS: Preoperative functional areas, symptom areas and overall health scores were similar in the two groups. The physical, role, emotional and social functions and overall health status of the uniportal group were significantly higher than those of the three-portal group in postoperative time. The score of symptom field was higher in one week after operation, the score of two, four and eight weeks decreased gradually, but it was still above the preoperative level, and the fatigue and pain of the uniportal group were significantly lower than that of the three-portal group. CONCLUSION: The advantages of uniportal VATS include a shorter hospital stay, more rapid recovery and superior cosmetic results compared to three-portal VATS. Additionally, uniportal VATS is superior to three-portal thoracoscopic surgery in terms of the immediate postoperative short-term QOL.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the systematic mediastinal lymph node (LN) dissection outcomes and conversion rates of uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (UVATS). METHODS: Patients with non-small-cell lung cancer who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and systematic mediastinal LN dissection between January 2015 and January 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. We categorized the patients into two groups according to the different surgical approaches. Patients' clinical data were collected and compared. The index of estimated benefit from LN dissection was used to evaluate the therapeutic value of LN dissection for each station. RESULTS: A total of 453 patients underwent VATS, including 197 patients in the UVATS group and 256 patients in the triportal VATS (TVATS) group. There were no significant differences in the 1-, 2- and 3-year survival rates of these two groups (P > 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the operative time, numbers and stations of LNs, numbers and stations of N2 LNs, conversion rate or postoperative complications. The UVATS group had less intraoperative blood loss, a shorter duration of hospital stay, less chest tube drainage and a shorter duration of chest tube drainage than the TVATS group (P < 0.05). The conversion rates in the UVATS and TVATS groups were 5.1% and 4.3%, respectively, and the difference was not significant. The same degree of LN sampling was achieved in both groups. CONCLUSION: UVATS permits the same degree of LN sampling as TVATS without a difference in the conversion rate.

RESUMO

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common malignancy with poor prognosis. The drug resistance compromises the efficacy of chemotherapy for ESCC. Long non-coding RNA taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) has been identified as a promoter of cancer progression and chemotherapy resistance in many malignancies. However, the exact role of TUG1 in ESCC chemotherapy resistance remains unclear. In this study, we showed that TUG1 expression in TE-1-derived cisplatin (DDP)-resistant (TE-1/DDP) cells was higher than that in TE-1 cells. Furthermore, TUG1 promoted DDP resistance in TE-1 and TE-1/DDP cells by promoting cell proliferation, suppressing cell apoptosis, and elevating protein expression of the classical multi-drug resistance-related P-gp. In contrast, TUG1 knockdown exerted an opposite effect. Mechanistically, RNA pull-down and RNA immunoprecipitation assays confirmed that TUG1 directly bound to nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) protein and elevated Nrf2 protein expression. Moreover, Nrf2-neutralizing antibody effectively reversed the TUG1 overexpression-mediated promotion of ESCC cell resistance to DDP. In conclusion, our findings demonstrated that TUG1 promoted ESCC cell resistance to DDP, at least in part, through upregulating Nrf2.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tumor recurrence following the surgical resection of lung cancer (LCa) reduces long-term disease-free survival rates. This study aimed to investigate the association of pulmonary venous blood (PVB) circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with the clinicopathological features of patients with early-stage lung adenocarcinoma. METHODS: A total of 120 cases were enrolled, including 24 healthy controls, 36 patients with lung benign tumors, and 60 early-stage lung adenocarcinoma patients. Cells displaying a profile of human chromosome 8 specific sequence (CEP8)+/4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI)+/leukocyte-specific antibodies (CD45)‒ were regarded as CTCs, and counts of ≥2 CTCs per 3.2 mL of PVB were considered positive. The association of CTC counts with clinical parameters were analyzed. RESULTS: The number of CTCs were significantly higher in early-stage lung adenocarcinoma patients compared to benign or normal control group. Moreover, increased CTCs in lung adenocarcinoma was closely associated with tumor invasion, pathological staging and the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations (P<0.05), whereas no significant difference was observed between CTC counts and age, sex, smoking history, pathological cell morphology or immunohistochemical indicators (P>0.05). Univariate and multivariate Cox's proportional hazards regression confirmed that CTC counts were an independent indicator for the prediction of tumor invasion, pathological staging, and EGFR mutations. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that CTC counts correlate with tumor invasion, pathological staging, and EGFR mutations. CTCs therefore represent promising biomarkers for the surveillance of lung adenocarcinoma progression.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Currently, there are many reports on the advantages of three portal video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in the treatment of lung cancer, but there are few reports on the comparison between uniportal and three portal video-assisted thoracic surgery. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the recent curative effect of the postoperative short-term quality of life between uniportal and three portal video-assisted thoracic surgery for non-small cell lung cancer. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 266 patients with NSCLC who underwent intended VATS lobectomy by a single surgical team in our ward between January 2016 and August 2017. The general clinical date, perioperative data and short-term life quality were individually compared and analyzed between the two groups. RESULTS: The two groups were similar in terms of clinicopathological features, total number of dissected lymph nodes and nodal stations, postoperative complications and pulmonary complications (P>0.05). Compared with three portal VATS, the intraoperative blood loss, chest tube duration, postoperative thoracic drainage, length of stay and NRS score were significantly decreased in uniportal VATS, with significant differences (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: As a more minimally invasive surgery, uniportal VATS can be safely and effectively performed for resectable lung cancer, which would achieve even better operation curative effect than three portal VATS.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the relationship between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and clinicopathological features and prognosis in patients with postoperative esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). METHODS: The preoperative NLR was evaluated in 419 patients who underwent esophagectomy for ESCC. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to verify the accuracy of the NLR for predicting survival. Correlation between the NLR and clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed using the χ2 test. Prognostic influence was calculated by using the Kaplan-Meier method and the difference was assessed by log-rank test. Multivariate Cox regression models were applied to evaluate the independent prognostic value. RESULTS: The cutoff value of the NLR was 2.998, the area under the curve was 0.735, and the sensitivity and specificity were 69.3% and 69.3%, respectively. Tumor length (P = 0.0317), lymph node metastasis (P = 0.0352), pathological tumor node metastasis (pTNM) stage (P = 0.0271), and postoperative radiotherapy (P = 0.0385) were significantly different between the groups. Multivariate analysis showed that pTNM stage (P = 0.0098), lymph node metastasis (P = 0.001), and NLR (P = 0.0022) were independent prognostic factors for survival. Moreover, when patients were stratified by TNM stage, the adverse effects of preoperative NLR on cancer-specific survival were greater in patients with stage II and III ESCC and in patients with lymph node metastasis. CONCLUSIONS: The preoperative NLR is significantly correlated with long-term prognosis in postoperative patients with ESCC, particularly in patients with lymph node metastasis and stage II and III ESCC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has a significant impact on the prognosis of many malignant tumors such as gastric cancer, colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer, but the study on the prognosis of patients with resectable lung adenocarcinoma is less. The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between the NLR and the clinicopathologic features of adenocarcinoma of lung patients who underwent radical pneumonectomy. Furthermore, this study aimed to clarify the predictive and prognostic significance of NLR in patients who underwent pneumonectomy for lung adenocarcinoma. METHODS: This study reviewed the medical records of 163 patients with lung adenocarcinoma who underwent pneumonectomy. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and Youden index were used to determine the cut-off value of the NLR. Survival curves were described by Kaplan-Meier method and compared by Log-rank test. The univariate and multivariate analyses were performed with the Cox proportional hazard model to identify the prognostic factors. RESULTS: When the NLR value was 2.96, the Youden index was maximal, with a sensitivity of 77.5% and a specificity of 75.9%. The 5-year survival rate in the low NLR group was higher than that in the high NLR group (P<0.05). The univariate and multivariate analyses showed that TNM staging and NLR were independent factors in predicting survival rate. CONCLUSIONS: The NLR value was a simple and useful tool to predict the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma after radical pneumonectomy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Through the comparative analysis of the acute and chronic pain postoperative between the single port and triple port video-assisted thoracic surgery to seek the better method which can reduce the incidence of acute and chronic pain in patients with lung cancer. METHODS: Data of 232 patients who underwent single port -VATS (n=131) or triple port VATS (n=101) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) on January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 in our hospital were analyzed. The clinical and operative data were assessed, numeric rating scale (NRS) was used to evaluate the mean pain score on the 1th, 2th, 3th, 7th, 14th days, 3th months and 6th months postoperative. RESULTS: Both groups were similar in clinical characteristics, there were no perioperative death in two groups. In the 1th, 2th, 7th, 14th days and 3th, 6th months postoperative, the NRS score of the single port group was superior, and the difference was significant compared with the triple port (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in operative time, blood loss, postoperative hospitalization time, duration of chest tube, the NRS scores in the 3 d (P>0.05). Univariate and multivariate analysis of the occurrence on the chronic pain showed that the operation time, surgical procedure and the 14th NRS score were risk factors for chronic pain (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The single port thoracoscopic surgery has an advantage in the incidence of acute and chronic pain in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Shorter operative time can reduce the occurrence of chronic pain. The 14th day NRS score is a risk factor for chronic pain postoperative.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recently, the detectable rate of ground-glass opacity (GGO ) was significantly increased, a appropriate diagnosis before clinic treatment tends to be important for patients with GGO lesions. The aim of this study is to validate the ability of the mean computed tomography (m-CT) value to predict tumor invasiveness, and compared with other measurements such as Max CT value, GGO size, solid size of GGO and C/T ratio (consolid/tumor ratio, C/T) to find out the best measurement to predict tumor invasiveness. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted of 129 patients who recieved lobectomy and were pathological confirmed as atypical adenomatous pyperplasia (AAH) or clinical stage Ia lung cance in our center between January 2012 and December 2013. Of those 129 patients, the number of patients of AAH, AIS, AIS and invasive adenocarcinoma were 43, 26, 17 and 43, respectively. We defined AAH and AIS as noninvasive cancer (NC), MIA and invasive adenocarcinoma were categorized as invasive cancer(IC). We used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to compare the ability to predict tumor invasiveness between m-CT value, consolidation/tumor ratio, tumor size and solid size of tumor. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the independent variables for prediction of pathologic more invasive lung cancer. RESULTS: 129 patients were enrolled in our study (59 male and 70 female), the patients were a median age of (62.0±8.6) years (range, 44 to 82 years). The two groups were similar in terms of age, sex, differentiation (P>0.05). ROC curve analysis was performed to determine the appropriate cutoff value and area under the cure (AUC). The cutoff value of solid tumor size, tumor size, C/T ratio, m-CT value and Max CT value were 9.4 mm, 15.3 mm, 47.5%, -469.0 HU and -35.0 HU, respectively. The AUC of those variate were 0.89, 0.79, 0.82, 0.90, 0.85, respectively. When compared the clinical and radiologic data between two groups, we found the IC group was strongly associated with a high m-CT value, high Max CT value, high C/T ratio and large tumor size. Gender, solid tumor size, tumor size, C/T ratio, m-CT value and MaxCT value were selected factor for multivariate analysis, when using the preoperatively determined variables to predict the tumor invasiveness, revealed that tumor size, C/T ratio, m-CT value and Max CT value were independent predictive factors of IC. CONCLUSIONS: The musurements of Max CT value, GGO size, solid size of GGO and C/T ratio were significantly correlated with tumor invasiveness, and the evaluation of m-CT value is most useful musurement in predicting more invasive lung cancer.
