RESUMO

A unique combination of cotton fabric (CF) with a mixture of EDTA and APTES Fe3O4 magnetic particles was developed and utilized for the first time as an adsorbent for removing pollutants from wastewater. Initially, Fe3O4 was synthesized using the co-precipitation method. Further, the surface of Fe3O4 was modified by introducing amino functional groups through a reaction with APTES, resulting in Fe3O4-NH2. Following this, the surface of carbon fiber (CF) was altered using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) to create CF@EDTA. Through the use of EDC-HCl and NHS, Fe3O4-NH2 was attached to the surface of CF@EDTA, resulting in the final product CF@EDTA/Fe3O4. Subsequently, the prepared CF@EDTA/Fe3O4 was utilized to adsorb metal pollutants from wastewater, with a thorough analysis conducted using various characterization techniques including FTIR, SEM, EDX, XRD, VSM, and XPS to study the materials. The study specifically aimed to assess the adsorption performance of our cotton-based material towards As(III) and Cr3+ metal ions. The pH study was also performed. Results indicated that the material exhibited an adsorption capacity of approximately 714 mg/g for As(III) ions and 708 mg/g for Cr3+ ions. The Langmuir and Freundlich models, as well as pseudo-first and second-order models were also analyzed. The Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models were found to best fit the data. In terms of regeneration and reusability, the materials showed straightforward regeneration and recyclability for up to 15 cycles. The remarkable adsorption capacity, combined with the unique blend of cotton and Fe3O4 magnet, along with its recyclability, positions our material CF@EDTA/Fe3O4 as a promising contender for wastewater treatment and other significant areas in water research.

RESUMO

The organic salt chlorocholine perchlorate [ClCH2 CH2 N(CH3 )3 ⋅ClO4 ] (CCP) is found to be a molecular ferroelectric with a high theoretical spontaneous polarization (Ps) value up to 17.09 µC cm-2 . CCP exhibits two successive order-disorder phase transition at 332 and 365 K with space groups changing from Cc to Cmc21 and then P63 /mmc, accompanied by unusual two-step ladder-like dielectric, SHG signal with obvious "on/off" contrasts. These findingings provides a further instance of exploring successive thermal-stimuli multi-responsive switching materials applied as switches and sensors.

RESUMO

Luminescent lanthanide cages have many potential applications in guest recognition, sensing, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and bioimaging. However, these polynuclear lanthanide assemblies' poor stability, dispersity, and luminescence properties have significantly constrained their practical applications. Furthermore, it is still a huge challenge to simultaneously synthesize and design lanthanide organic polyhedra with high stability and quantum yield. Herein, we demonstrate a simple and robust strategy to improve the rigidity, chemical stability, and luminescence of an Eu(III) tetrahedral cage by introducing the conjugated planar auxiliary phen ligand. The self-assembled tetrahedral cage, (Eu4L4)(phen)4 [L = (4,4',4″-tris(4,4,4-trifluoro-1,3-dioxobutyl)-triphenylamine), phen = 1,10-phenanthroline], exhibited characteristic luminescence of Eu3+ ions with high quantum yield (41%) and long lifetime (131 µs) in toluene (1.0 × 10-6 M). Moreover, the Eu(III) cage was stable in water and even in an aqueous solution with a pH range of 1-14. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and cellular imaging revealed that the Pluronic F127-coated hybrid material, (Eu4L4)(phen)4@F127, exhibited low cytotoxicity, good biocompatibility, and cellular imaging ability, which may inspire more insights into the development of lanthanide organic polyhedra (LOPs) for potential biomedical applications.

RESUMO

Objective: Evaluate the influence of laparoscopy combined with choledochoscopy on operation-related indexes, serum total bilirubin (TBIL) level, and abdominal drainage tube extraction time within cases carrying cholecystolithiasis/choledocholithiasis. Methods: 86 cases of cholecystolithiasis together with choledocholithiasis were chosen for this investigation, and cases were randomly segregated within the control cohort (43 cases, open surgery) and observation cohort (43 cases, laparoscopy combined with choledochoscopy). The operation-related indexes, complete stone clearance rate, postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) scoring, serum TBIL level, and postsurgical complications/recovery incidence were observed and comparatively analyzed across cohorts. Results: Compared with the control cohort, the incision length, operation duration, postoperative exhaust duration, abdominal drainage tube extraction time, and postsurgery hospitalization in observation cohort were markedly reduced (P < 0.05), the intrasurgical hemorrhaging was markedly reduced (P < 0.05), and the postoperative complication incidences were markedly reduced (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the complete stone clearance rates in the observation cohort were elevated compared with control, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05).VAS scoring for the observation cohort at 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours postsurgery was markedly reduced (P < 0.05). On the first day after the operation, the serum TBIL levels for the two cohorts were very high and gradually decreased, and the serum TBIL levels in the observation cohort were markedly reduced during day 1, 3, and 5 postsurgery (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Laparoscopy combined with choledochoscopy surgical treatment might reduce the surgery duration, intrasurgery hemorrhaging, postsurgical pain, and liver function damage.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze gene variants in a Chinese pedigree with oculocutaneous albinism (OCA). METHODS: Gene sequencing of the proband and his parents was performed using chip capture high-throughput sequencing and Sanger sequencing techniques, and PolyPhen-2, SIFT, MutationTaster, and FATHMM software were used to predict the function of new variants. At the same time, the pedigree and variant genes of 4 albinism patients from this pedigree were analyzed. RESULTS: Sequencing results showed that the proband's TYR gene (NM_000372) has c.230G>A (p.Arg77Gln) and c.120_121insG (p.Asp42GlyfsTer35) compound heterozygous variants. The proband's father carries c.230G>A heterozygous variant, and the mother carries c.120_121insG heterozygous variant, indicating that the proband's two variants are from his father and mother. The former is a known missense variant, which can cause abnormal or loss of the original function of the protein polypeptide chain. The latter c.120_121insG(p.Asp42GlyfsTer35) is an unreported frameshift variant of the TYR gene subregion (EX1; CDS1). PolyPhen-2, SIFT, MutationTaster and FATHMM predictions are all prompted as "harmful variants". This variant caused the amino acid encoded protein to terminate prematurely, producing a truncated protein, which eventually formed a 76-amino acid short-type TYR protein instead of the 529-amino acid wild-type TYR protein. Through the pedigree analysis, the four patients in the pedigree are all of the same type of compound heterozygous variants, and the disease-causing genes are all from the patient's parents. They belong to a special form of consanguineous marriage within 5 generations. CONCLUSION: The compound heterozygous variants of c.230G>A (p.Arg77Gln) and c.120_121insG (p.Asp42GlyfsTer35) of the TYR gene may underlie the disease in this pedigree. The gene sequencing results enrich the variant spectrum of the TYR gene, and has facilitated molecular diagnosis for the patient.
