RESUMO

The separation of chloride and sulphate is important for the treatment of high salt wastewater, and monovalent selective electrodialysis (MSED) has advantages in terms of energy consumption and pre-treatment costs compared to nanofiltration salt separation. Most of the research on monovalent anion-selective membranes (MASM) is still on a laboratory scale due to the preparation process, cost, and other reasons. In this study, a low-cost, easy-to-operate modification scheme was used to prepare MASM, which was applied to assemble a pilot-scale electrodialysis device to treat reverse osmosis concentrated water with a salt content of 4% to 5%. The results indicate that the optimum operating conditions for the device are: 250 L/h influent flow rate for the concentration and dilute compartments, 350 L/h influent flow rate for the electrode compartment and a constant voltage of 20 V. The separation effect of the pilot electrodialysis plant at optimal operating conditions was: the Cl- and SO42- transmission rates of 80% and 2.54% respectively, the separation efficiency (S) of 93.85% and the Energy consumption per unit of NaCl (ENaCl) of 0.344 kWh/kg. The analysis of the variation of the three parameters of selective separation performance during electrodialysis indicates that the separation efficiency (S) is a suitable parameter for measuring the selective separation performance of the device compared to the monovalent selectivity coefficient (PSO42-Cl-).

RESUMO

Objective: To compare the efficacy of different reduction and intramedullary nailing in the treatment of spiral fracture of middle and lower tibia. Method: A total of 96 patients with spiral fractures of middle and lower tibia treated with intramedullary nails were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into closed functional reduction group, open anatomical reduction group, and closed anatomical reduction group according to different treatment methods. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative fluoroscopy times, fracture healing time, fracture nonunion, wound complications, and healing conditions of the three groups were compared. Results: The operation time and intraoperative fluoroscopy times of patients in the closed anatomical reduction group were significantly increased compared with those in the closed functional reduction group, while the fracture healing time was significantly reduced. However, patients in the open reduction group had significantly more intraoperative blood loss than those in the closed reduction group. The mean follow-up duration of patients was 15.81 ± 3.25 months. Open anatomical reduction was found to have a higher complication rate during follow-up. Specifically, a total of 3 cases recovered after 2 times of surgical treatment. 6 cases showed a small gap at the fracture end which did not affect the function. Conclusion: In the treatment of middle and lower spiral fracture of tibia, closed anatomical reduction and intramedullary nail internal fixation have shorter fracture healing time, less blood loss, and fewer complications, which can act as the first surgical choice. However, open reduction and intramedullary nailing have a high complication rate, which is not recommended.

RESUMO

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) constitutes the most significant air pollutant that causes health risks. However, the mechanism(s) underlying PM2.5-induced male reproductive injury has not been clarified. In the present study we explored whether PM2.5 activated the inositol-requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1)/c-Jun NH 2-terminal kinase (JNK)/autophagy-signaling pathway, and whether this pathway mediated reproductive injury in male rats. We established a male Sprague-Dawley rat model of PM2.5 (1.5 mg/kg) exposure-induced reproductive injury, and observed the intervention effects of STF083010 (an IRE1 inhibitor, 1 mg/kg). After 4 weeks of exposure, reproductive injury-related indicators and IRE1-cascade protein expression were analyzed. Our results showed that sperm quality and serum testosterone level significantly decreased and apoptotic index increased after exposure to PM2.5. After STF083010 intervention, sperm quality and serum testosterone level were significantly improved, while the apoptotic index was reduced. Under light microscopy, we observed that the structure of spermatogenic cells in the PM2.5 group was loose, and that the numbers of spermatogenic cells and mature spermatozoa were reduced. After STF083010 intervention, the structural damage to spermatogenic cells was improved, and the number of cells shed was reduced. Western blotting analysis showed that the expression of IRE1, phosphorylated JNK (p-JNK), beclin-1, and microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3(LC3)II/LC3I proteins was significantly upregulated, and that the expression of p62 protein was significantly downregulated in the PM2.5 group. The concomitant administration of STF083010 significantly antagonized the aforementioned adverse effects. STF083010 exerted specific protective effects on reproductive injury-related effects in male rats exposed to PM2.5, with effects mediated via IRE1/JNK/autophagy signaling.

RESUMO

This study was aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory potential of AG on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) -induced liver injury and investigate the underlying mechanism. Administration of LPSs in the rat produced rat liver injury model which was ascertained at histological and molecular levels. Those models were treated with a range of doses of LPSs (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mg/kg body weight), followed by measurement physical parameter and function of the liver. Within the max treatment doses, no toxicity was shown but protective effects of AG were evidenced by regulation of physical parameters and functions of the liver. Interestingly, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) levels and inflammatory factors were down-regulated by AG. Furthermore, the histopathological analysis demonstrated that AG promoted recovery from dysfunction of liver tissue in the rats, which was further confirmed by observing expression changes of inflammation-associated proteins. Particularly, alteration in the PI3K/AKT and JAK2/STAT3 signalling pathway protein expression were regulated by AG in a dose-dependent manner, indicating the mechanism underlying the relief effect of AG in liver injury. Our study demonstrated the potential of AG in the management of complications related to liver injury.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of mircoRNA-17 and mircoRNA-17-5P (miR-17/17-5P) in patients with cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search on published literature following the guidelines of the meta-analysis of observational studies in epidemiology group for design, implementation, and reporting. The methodological qualities for included studies were assessed using the quality in prognosis studies. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% CIs for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival/recurrence-free survival/disease-free survival (PFS/RFS/DFS) were calculated to appraise the associations between miR-17/17-5P expression and cancer prognosis. RESULTS: A total of 21 studies involving 2099 subjects were analyzed in evidence synthesis. The results showed that high expression of miR-17 was associated with poor OS (HR=2.14; 95% CI: 1.69-2.71, P<0.001) in patients with cancer, especially in Caucasian (HR=2.23; 95% CI: 1.58-3.14, P<0.001) and digestive tract cancer (HR=1.29, 95% CI: 1.03-1.63, P=0.03), and miR-17 expression was significantly correlated with PFS/RFS in cancer patients (HR=1.69, 95% CI: 1.29-2.22, P<0.001). miR-17-5P overexpression was significantly linked with poor OS in cancer patients (HR=1.66; 95% CI: 1.31-2.09, P=0.00), especially in Asian (HR=1.81; 95% CI: 1.37-2.40, P<0.001), digestive tract cancer (HR=1.80; 95% CI: 1.29-2.50, P<0.001), and serum sample (HR=1.76; 95% CI: 1.29-2.41, P<0.001). miR-17-5P expression was significantly associated with DFS in cancer patients (HR=1.58, 95% CI: 1.07-2.35, P=0.02). CONCLUSION: High expression of miR-17 and miR-17-5P are significantly associated with poor survival in patients with cancer. This indicated that miR-17/17-5P may be a novel prognostic indicator in cancer.

RESUMO

The Atmospheric Correction Inter-comparison eXercise (ACIX) is an international initiative with the aim to analyse the Surface Reflectance (SR) products of various state-of-the-art atmospheric correction (AC) processors. The Aerosol Optical Thickness (AOT) and Water Vapour (WV) are also examined in ACIX as additional outputs of an AC processing. In this paper, the general ACIX framework is discussed; special mention is made of the motivation to initiate this challenge, the inter-comparison protocol and the principal results. ACIX is free and open and every developer was welcome to participate. Eventually, 12 participants applied their approaches to various Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 image datasets acquired over sites around the world. The current results diverge depending on the sensors, products and sites, indicating their strengths and weaknesses. Indeed, this first implementation of processor inter-comparison was proven to be a good lesson for the developers to learn the advantages and limitations of their approaches. Various algorithm improvements are expected, if not already implemented, and the enhanced performances are yet to be investigated in future ACIX experiments.

RESUMO

A QuEChERS-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed for the determination of pyraclostrobin, thiophanate-methyl and its metabolite carbendazim in soil and citrus. The samples were extracted with methanol or acetonitrile, purified by primary secondary amine (PSA), then separated by LC, detected in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mass spectrometry mode via positive electrospray ionization. The analytes were quantified by matrix-matched standard solutions with external standard method. The limits of quantification (LOQs) of pyraclostrobin, thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim in different matrices were 5.8-7.0 µg/kg, 9.3-14.1 µg/kg and 2.1-2.6 µg/kg, respectively. For all the samples, the spiked recoveries ranged from 75.48% to 109.18%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were 0.60%-5.11% (n=5). The method is quick, easy, effective, sensitive and accurate. The matrix-matched calibration solutions can efficiently compensate matrix effects of the pyraclostrobin, thiophanate-methyl and carbendazim in LC-MS/MS analysis. The established method can be applied to the residue analysis of the real samples of soil, citrus peel, citrus pulp and citrus fruits.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to clarify and quantify the potential dose-response association between the intake of total red and total processed meat and risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Relevant studies were identified by searching PubMed, EMBASE, and Chinese databases (CNKI and Wanfang). The summary relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was calculated. A total of 15 independent studies with 12,735 subjects were identified. Compared with the low-rank intake, the summary RR of NPC was 1.35 (95%CI, 1.21-1.51) for total red meat and 1.46 (95%CI, 1.34-1.64) for total processed meat. For the moderate-rank intake, the summary RR of NPC was 1.54 (95%CI, 1.36-1.79) for total red meat and 1.59 (95%CI, 1.3-1.90) for total processed meat. The summary RR for high-rank intake was 1.71 (95%CI, 1.14-2.55) for total red meat and 2.11 (95%CI, 1.31-3.42) for total processed meat. The combined estimates showed obvious evidence of statistically significant association between total red and total processed meat consumption dose and risk of NPC (Ptrend< 0.01). In conclusion, our data suggest that a high intake of total red or total processed meat is associated with a significantly increased risk of NPC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of the proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) and locking compression plate (LCP) in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures with the lateral unsubstantial femoral wall in elderly patients. METHODS: Between May 2009 and August 2012, 69 elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures with the lateral unsubstantial femoral wall were treated. Fractures were fixed with PFNA in 36 patients (PFNA group), and with LCP in 33 patients (LCP group). There was no significant difference in gender, age, injury cause, side of fracture, and fracture AO type between 2 groups (P > 0.05). The incision length, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, total blood loss, fluoroscopy frequency, time for ambulation, and early (within 3 months) and late (more than 12 months) complications were compared. Fracture healing was assessed according to X-ray reexamination, the function of the hip joint was assessed according to the Harris hip scoring system. RESULTS: The incision length, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and time for ambulation of PFNA group were significantly less than those of LCP group (P < 0.05), but the fluoroscopy frequency of PFNA group was significantly more than that of LCP group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in total blood loss between 2 groups (t = -1.686, P = 0.096). The patients were followed up 12-24 months in PFNA group and 15-30 months in LCP group. The X-ray reexamination revealed fracture healing at (12.667 ± 2.527) weeks in patients of PFNA group, and at (13.364 ± 1.194) weeks in the others of LCP group except 1 case of nonunion, showing no significant difference (t = -1.443, P = 0.154). There was no significant difference in Harris hip score between PFNA group (84.611 ± 7.076) and LCP group (81.785 ± 7.500) at 12 months after operation (t = 1.626, P = 0.109). The early complication rate and late complication rate were 16.7% (6/36) and 5.6% (2/36) in PFNA group and were 9.1% (3/33) and 9.1% (3/33) in LCP group, all showing no significant difference between 2 groups (χ2 = 0.871, P = 0.481; χ2 = 0.320, P = 0.665). CONCLUSION: Both PFNA and LCP have good effectiveness in the, treatment of intertrochanteric fractures with the lateral unsubstantial femoral wall in the elderly patients. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

RESUMO

The groundwater petroleum contaminant biodegradation effect by high efficient hybrid microorganism was. investigated and the groundwater contaminant biodegradation transportation mathematical model was established in this study. The high efficient bacteria was separated and filtrated from the soil contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbon, and it was identified as Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium and Micrococcus. The petroleum degradation rates by these three kinds microorganism were 62%, 56% and 62% respectively in 24 h, and the high petroleum biodegradation rate 85% could be achieved by the hybrid microorganism constituted by these three kinds of microorganism, which was higher than that of any other each single bacteria community. The hybrid microorganism in-flowed into the reactor imitating the aquifer media with the petroleum wastewater, and it could form a steady microorganism zone in the foreside of the reactor. The petroleum biodegradation rate could achieve 60% when the petroleum wastewater flowed through this microorganism zone and the average petroleum biodegradation rate could reach up to 90% in the effluent. The groundwater contaminant biodegradation transportation mathematical model can predict the biodegradation of the wastewater through the microorganism zone effectively, of which the calculating values have good relativity with those of measurement.
