RESUMO

Child externalising problems, such as acting out and hostility, have been found to be significant stressors for parents, leading to increased distress levels. This cross-sectional study examined the mediating role of parents' use of mobile phones to soothe or engage children in the association between child externalising problems and distress in parents. Altogether 937 parents of children aged 5-12 reported their child's externalising problems, child's mobile phone use, and their distress through an online survey. The findings indicated that parents of children with high externalising problems are more likely to use mobile phones to soothe their children and keep them engaged in daily activities, which, in turn, is associated with higher distress in parents. Child externalising problems and distress in parents remained significantly and positively associated even after accounting for the mediating effect. The results highlight the child-driven effect on distress in parents through parenting behaviours, indicating the importance of providing alternative parenting strategies to cope with child externalising behaviours, in order to promote parental emotional well-being.

BACKGROUND: A higher incidence of herpes zoster (HZ) was found in people with decreased cell-mediated immunity. However, the relationship between cellular immunity and HZ infection in patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRD) remains elusive. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of CD4/CD8 ratio in patients with AIRD and HZ. METHODS: This case-control study compared AIRD patients with and without HZ. We chose 70 AIRD patients with HZ as the experimental group and 140 AIRD patients without HZ as the control group. The clinical and laboratory findings were assessed in each trial participant. RESULTS: The CD4/CD8 ratio (odds ratio [OR], 0.22; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.10-0.49) was independently associated with the occurrence of HZ after adjusting for various confounders. Nonlinear analysis has unveiled a more profound nonlinear relationship between the CD4/CD8 ratio and the occurrence of HZ in patients with AIRD. The OR of HZ increased with a decreasing CD4/CD8 ratio before the turning point of 2. The adjusted regression coefficient was 0.14 (95% CI, 0.05-0.37, p<0.0001) for CD4/CD8 ratio less than 2. CONCLUSION: The CD4/CD8 ratio was expected to be a very promising quantitative biomarker for predicting the risk of developing HZ in patients with AIRD.

Magnesium (Mg) deficiency is a major factor limiting the growth and development of plants. Mulberry (Morus alba L.) is an important fruit tree crop that requires Mg for optimal growth and yield, especially in acid soils. However, the molecular mechanism of Mg stress tolerance in mulberry plants remains unknown. In this study, we used next-generation sequencing technology and biochemical analysis to profile the transcriptome and physiological changes of mulberry leaves under different Mg treatments (deficiency: 0 mM, low: 1 mM, moderate low: 2 mM, sufficiency: 3 mM, toxicity: 6 mM, higher toxicity: 9 mM) as T1, T2, T3, CK, T4, T5 treatments, respectively, for 20 days. The results showed that Mg imbalance altered the antioxidant enzymatic activities, such as catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and non-enzymatic, including soluble protein, soluble sugar, malondialdehyde (MDA), and proline (PRO), contents of the plant. The Mg imbalances disrupted the ultrastructures of the vital components of chloroplast and mitochondria relative to the control. The transcriptome data reveal that 11,030 genes were differentially expressed (DEGs). Genes related to the photosynthetic processes (CAB40, CAB7, CAB6A, CAB-151, CAP10A) and chlorophyll degradation (PAO, CHLASE1, SGR) were altered. Antioxidant genes such as PER42, PER21, and PER47 were downregulated, but DFR was upregulated. The carbohydrate metabolism pathway was significantly altered, while those involved in energy metabolism processes were perturbed under high Mg treatment compared with control. We also identified several candidate genes associated with magnesium homeostasis via RT-qPCR validation analysis, which provided valuable information for further functional characterization studies such as promoter activity assay or gene overexpression experiments using transient expression systems.

Black spot, caused by Alternaria brassicicola (Ab), poses a serious threat to crucifer production, and knowledge of how plants respond to Ab infection is essential for black spot management. In the current study, combined transcriptomic and metabolic analysis was employed to investigate the response to Ab infection in two cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) genotypes, Bo257 (resistant to Ab) and Bo190 (susceptible to Ab). A total of 1100 and 7490 differentially expressed genes were identified in Bo257 (R_mock vs. R_Ab) and Bo190 (S_mock vs. S_Ab), respectively. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis revealed that "metabolic pathways", "biosynthesis of secondary metabolites", and "glucosinolate biosynthesis" were the top three enriched KEGG pathways in Bo257, while "metabolic pathways", "biosynthesis of secondary metabolites", and "carbon metabolism" were the top three enriched KEGG pathways in Bo190. Further analysis showed that genes involved in extracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, jasmonic acid signaling pathway, and indolic glucosinolate biosynthesis pathway were differentially expressed in response to Ab infection. Notably, when infected with Ab, genes involved in extracellular ROS production were largely unchanged in Bo257, whereas most of these genes were upregulated in Bo190. Metabolic profiling revealed 24 and 56 differentially accumulated metabolites in Bo257 and Bo190, respectively, with the majority being primary metabolites. Further analysis revealed that dramatic accumulation of succinate was observed in Bo257 and Bo190, which may provide energy for resistance responses against Ab infection via the tricarboxylic acid cycle pathway. Collectively, this study provides comprehensive insights into the Ab-cabbage interactions and helps uncover targets for breeding Ab-resistant varieties in cabbage.

Advancements in two-dimensional materials, particularly MXenes, have spurred the development of innovative composites through their integration with natural polymers such as sodium alginate (SA). Mxenes exhibit a broad specific surface area, excellent electrical conductivity, and an abundance of surface terminations, which can be combined with SA to maximize the synergistic effect of the materials. This article provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art techniques in the fabrication of SA/MXene composites, analyzing the resulting structural and functional enhancements with a specific focus on advancing the design of these composites for practical applications. A detailed exploration of SA/MXene composites is provided, highlighting their utility in various sectors, such as wearable electronics, wastewater treatment, biomedical applications, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. The review identifies the unique advantages conferred by incorporating MXene in these composites, examines the current challenges, and proposes future research directions to understand and optimize these promising materials thoroughly. The remarkable properties of MXenes are emphasized as crucial for advancing the performance of SA-based composites, indicating significant potential for developing high-performance composite materials.

Background: Both CellSearch and CellCollector have been accepted as the proper devices to capture CTC by domestic approval department. However, there is little article about the comparison between these two devices around the world. Herein, we conducted the real-world study to compare with these two devices and to re-verify the efficacy of CTC counts. Methods: Patients who meet the following points should be included in the analysis. 1. Female, aged 18 years or older; 2. Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score 0-2; 3. With at least one measurable tumor lesion; 4. Clear immunohistochemistry result; 5. Accept at least one CTC test. Patients were excluded in the analysis if they had a history of malignant tumors, incomplete follow-up information. Results: 536 metastatic breast cancer patients who had been detected for CTC at least once by CellSearch or CellCollector were included in the analysis. CellCollector in vivo CTC detection technology has a higher detection rate than the CellSearch system (69.2% vs 57.4%, P = 0.009). However, the proportion of CTC≥5 detected by CellSearch was higher than CellCollector (37.4% vs 16.3%, P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in overall survival of patients with CTC negative and CTC positive (mOS:49.8 months vs 26.9 months). After 4 weeks of treatment, when CTC decreased by more than 50%, there was a significant difference in survival between the two groups (40.1 months vs 25.8 months, HR = 0.588, 95% CI: 0.350-0.933). In addition, for HER2-positive patients, Patients with CTC HER2 positive had longer overall survival than patients with CTC HER2 negative (median OS: 26.7 months vs 17.3 month, HR = 0.528, 95% CI: 0.269-0.887). Conclusions: Real-world data indicate that CTC is an independent prognostic factor, and CellCollector and CellSearch have their own advantages in CTC detection.

Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum (RS) is one of the most devastating diseases in patchouli (Pogostemon cablin [Blanco] Benth.), which results in low yield and quality of patchouli. However, no stable and effective control methods have been developed yet. To evaluate the potential of dominant bacterial endophytes in biocontrol, the endophytic bacterial diversity of patchouli was investigated based on Illumina sequencing analysis, and the ability of isolates belonging to the dominant bacterial genera to control RS wilt of patchouli was explored in pot experiments. A total of 245 bacterial genera were detected in patchouli plants, with the highest relative abundance of operational taxonomic units belonging to the genus Pseudomonas detected in roots, leaves, and stems. The Pseudomonas isolates S02, S09, and S26 showed antagonistic activity against RS in vitro and displayed many plant growth-promoting characteristics, including production of indole-3-acetic acid, siderophores, and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid deaminase and phosphate- and potassium-solubilizing capability. Inoculation of patchouli plants with the isolates S02, S09, and S26 significantly improved shoot growth and decreased the incidence of bacterial wilt caused by RS. The results suggest that screening of dominant bacterial endophytes for effective biocontrol agents based on Illumina sequencing analysis is more efficient than random isolation and screening procedures.

In the absence of evidence-based guidance on the impact of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) blood concentration on efficacy and ocular toxicity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), the clinical monitoring of HCQ blood concentration is not yet widely performed, which raised concerns about the necessity of conducting HCQ blood concentration monitoring. In this retrospective study, we consecutively enrolled 135 patients with SLE who received HCQ treatment for more than 6 months from July 2022 to December 2022. Ocular toxicity was evaluated by collecting relevant retinal parameters using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Therapeutic efficacy was evaluated using the SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) and relevant clinical parameters. HCQ blood concentration was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Spearman correlation analysis revealed that the cumulative dose of HCQ was positively correlated with the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) perimeter and FAZ area (r = 0.734, P < 0.001; r = 0.784, P < 0.001). Meanwhile, the treatment duration of HCQ was positively correlated with FAZ perimeter and FAZ area (r = 0.761, P < 0.001; r = 0.882, P < 0.001). The univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that HCQ blood concentration was associated with the disease activity of patients with SLE (odds ratio 0.994, 95% CI 0.990-0.999). HCQ blood concentration may be an important factor in assessing the therapeutic effectiveness of SLE patients. The HCQ-related ocular toxicity was a long-term effect related to long term exposure, rather than the blood concentration of HCQ at the time of testing. More importantly, when addressing HCQ-related ocular toxicity, it may be crucial to pay attention to the cumulative dose and treatment duration of HCQ.

Objective: This study aimed to develop and validate a globally applicable assessment tool of the 43-item International Healthy Eating Report Card Scale (IHERCS) which was designed to assess preschool-aged children's eating behaviours and family home food environments (FHFEs) across different cultural settings. In particular, we examined the factor structure, internal consistency and measurement invariance of the IHERCS across four cultural samples, including Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the US. Convergent and discriminant validity were then conducted. Methods: In this cross-cultural study, a total of 2059 parent-child dyads from these four regions were recruited, and the parents were asked to complete the IHERCS. An exploratory structural equational modelling approach was employed to examine two higher-order factor models of children's eating behaviours and FHFEs in the IHERCS and its cross-cultural measurement invariance. Results: The findings demonstrated robust factor structures of the scales of children's eating behaviours and FHFEs in the IHERCS (i.e., CFI and TLI > 0.90; RMSEA and SRMR < 0.08) and an acceptable level of internal consistency (i.e., Cronbach's α = 0.55-0.84). Full configural invariance and metric invariance were established across the four cultural contexts, but full scalar invariance was not achieved. Partial scalar invariance was found only in the scale of FHFEs. The convergent validity and discriminant validity were supported. Conclusion: Overall, the current findings provided preliminary support for the construct validity and measurement invariance of the IHERCS. It provides a reliable, valid and comprehensive assessment of eating behaviours and FHFEs among children in different cultural settings.

Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F.H. Chen is a traditional medicinal herb known as Sanqi or Tianqi in Asia and is commonly used worldwide. It is one of the main raw ingredients of Yunnan Baiyao, Fu fang dan shen di wan, and San qi shang yao pian. It is also a source of cardiotonic pill used to treat cardiovascular diseases in China, Korea, and Russia. Approximately 270 Panax notoginseng saponins have been isolated and identified as the major active components. Although the absorption and bioavailability of saponins are predominantly dependent on the gastrointestinal biotransformation capacity of an individual, minor saponins are better absorbed into the bloodstream and act as active substances than major saponins. Notably, minor saponins are absent or are present in minimal quantities under natural conditions. In this review, we focus on the strategies for the enrichment and production of minor saponins in P. notoginseng using physical, chemical, enzyme catalytic, and microbial methods. Moreover, pharmacological studies on minor saponins derived from P. notoginseng over the last decade are discussed. This review serves as a meaningful resource and guide, offering scholarly references for delving deeper into the exploration of the minor saponins in P. notoginseng.

Excessive and uncontrollable inflammatory responses in alveoli can dramatically exacerbate pulmonary disease progressions through vigorous cytokine releases, immune cell infiltration and protease-driven tissue damages. It is an urgent need to explore potential drug strategies for mitigating lung inflammation. Protease-activated receptor 2 (PAR2) as a vital molecular target principally participates in various inflammatory diseases via intracellular signal transduction. However, it has been rarely reported about the role of PAR2 in lung inflammation. This study applied CRISPR-Cas9 system encoding Cas9 and sgRNA (pCas9-PAR2) for PAR2 knockout and fabricated an anionic human serum albumin-based nanoparticles to deliver pCas9-PAR2 with superior inflammation-targeting efficiency and stability (TAP/pCas9-PAR2). TAP/pCas9-PAR2 robustly facilitated pCas9-PAR2 to enter and transfect inflammatory cells, eliciting precise gene editing of PAR2 in vitro and in vivo. Importantly, PAR2 deficiency by TAP/pCas9-PAR2 effectively and safely promoted macrophage polarization, suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokine releases and alleviated acute lung inflammation, uncovering a novel value of PAR2. It also revealed that PAR2-mediated pulmonary inflammation prevented by TAP/pCas9-PAR2 was mainly dependent on ERK-mediated NLRP3/IL-1ß and NO/iNOS signalling. Therefore, this work indicated PAR2 as a novel target for lung inflammation and provided a potential nanodrug strategy for PAR2 deficiency in treating inflammatory diseases.

OBJECTIVES: Despite being an important research topic in oral biomaterials, few studies have demonstrated the differences between poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide)/hydroxyapatite (PLGA/HA) and poly(d,l-lactic acid)/hydroxyapatite (PDLLA/HA). In this study, PLGA/HA and PDLLA/HA scaffolds were prepared using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology and implanted into radius defects in rabbits to assess their effects on bone regeneration. METHODS: In this study, 6 mm × 4 mm bone defects were generated in the bilateral radii of rabbits. 3D-printed PLGA/HA and PDLLA/HA scaffolds were implanted into the defects. X-ray imaging, micro-computed tomography, and hematoxylin-eosin staining were performed to observe the degradation of the materials, the presence of new bone, and bone remodeling in the bone defect area. RESULTS: The PLGA/HA scaffolds displayed complete degradation at 20 weeks, whereas PDLLA/HA scaffolds exhibited incomplete degradation. Active osteoblasts were detected in both groups. The formation of new bone, bone marrow cavity reconstruction, and cortical bone remodeling were better in the PLGA/HA group than in the PDLLA/HA group. CONCLUSIONS: PLGA/HA scaffolds performed better than PDLLA/HA scaffolds in repairing bone defects, making the former scaffolds more suitable as bone substitutes at the same high molecular weight.

Melanoidins are widely present in molasses wastewater and are dark-colored macromolecules that are hazardous to the environment. Currently, adsorption methods can effectively remove melanoidins from wastewater. However, existing adsorbents have shown unsatisfactory removal efficiency for melanoidins, making practical application challenging. Polyethylene glycol crosslinked modified chitosan/halloysite nanotube composite aerogel microspheres (PCAM@HNTs) were developed as a highly efficient adsorbent for melanoidins. The removal rate of PCAM@HNTs for melanoidins was 98.53 % at adsorbent dosage 0.4 mg/mL, pH 7, temperature 303 K and 450 mg/L initial melanoidins concentration, and the corresponding equilibrium adsorption capacity was 1108.49 mg/g. The analysis results indicate that the adsorption of melanoidins by PCAM@HNTs is a spontaneous and endothermic process. It fits well with pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the Freundlich isotherm equation. The adsorption of PCAM@HNT on melanoidins is primarily attributed to electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions. Furthermore, PCAM@HNTs exhibit excellent biocompatibility and are nonhazardous. Therefore, PCAM@HNTs proved to be an ideal adsorbent for the decolorization of molasses wastewater.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine whether the combined use of bevacizumab could improve overall survival (OS) in patients with brain metastasis (BM), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) undergoing cerebral radiotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 237 patients with EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinoma and BM met the inclusion criteria for this retrospective study, including 102 patients in the bevacizumab treatment group and 135 in the non-bevacizumab group. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for survival analysis. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify EGFR-mutated BM prognostic factors for these patients. RESULTS: At the end of the last follow-up period, 176 patients (74.3%) had died, and the median overall survival (OS) was 34.2 months. We observed a significant difference in the median OS between the bevacizumab and non-bevacizumab groups (45.8 months vs 30.0 months, P < 0.0001). Among the 178 (75.1%) patients who received cerebral radiotherapy, the median OS of patients in the bevacizumab + cerebral radiotherapy group was 45.8 months versus 32.0 months in the non-bevacizumab + cerebral radiotherapy group, respectively (P = 0.0007). Patients treated with bevacizumab after cerebral radiotherapy had a longer median OS than patients treated with bevacizumab before cerebral radiotherapy (59.4 months vs 33.7 months, P = 0.0198). In the univariate analysis, smoking status, Lung-molGPA scores, and bevacizumab therapy showed correlations (HR = 1.450, P = 0.045; HR = 0.700, P = 0.023; HR = 0.499, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that bevacizumab therapy alone (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.514; P < 0.001) was independently associated with improved OS. CONCLUSION: In patients with BM from EGFR-mutated NSCLC, cerebral radiotherapy with bevacizumab markedly improved OS. This improvement was more evident after cerebral radiotherapy.

The effective degradation of recalcitrant lignocellulose has emerged as a bottleneck for the humification of compost, and strategies are required to improve the efficiency of bagasse composting. Bioaugmentation is a promising method for promoting compost maturation and improving the quality of final compost. In this study, the bioaugmentation effects of microbial inoculants on humic acid (HA) formation during lignocellulosic composting were explored. In the inoculated group, the maximum temperature was increased to 72.5 °C, and the phenol-protein condensation and Maillard humification pathways were enhanced, thus increasing the HA content by 43.85%. After inoculation, the intensity of the microbial community interactions increased, particularly for fungi (1.4-fold). Macrogenomic analysis revealed that inoculation enriched thermophilic bacteria and lignocellulose-degrading fungi and increased the activity of carbohydrate-active enzymes and related metabolic functions, which effectively disrupted the recalcitrant structure of lignocellulose to achieve a high humification degree. Spearman correlation analysis indicated that Stappia of the Proteobacteria phylum, Ilumatobacter of the Actinomycetes phylum, and eleven genera of Ascomycota were the main HA producers. This study provides new ideas for bagasse treatment and recycling and realizing the comprehensive use of resources.

BACKGROUND: Kawasaki disease is a pediatric acute systemic vasculitis that specifically involves the coronary arteries. Timely initiation of immunoglobulin plus aspirin is necessary for diminishing the incidence of coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs). The optimal dose of aspirin, however, remains controversial. The trial aims to evaluate if low-dose aspirin is noninferior to moderate-dose in reducing the risk of CAAs during the initial treatment of Kawasaki disease. METHODS: This is a multi-center, prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded endpoint, noninferiority trial to be conducted in China. The planned study duration is from 2023 to 2026. Data will be analyzed according to intention-to-treat principles. Participants are children and adolescents under the age of 18 with Kawasaki disease, recruited from the inpatient units. A sample size of 1,346 participants will provide 80% power with a one-sided significance level of 0.025. Qualifying children will be randomized (1:1) to receive either intravenous immunoglobulin (2 g/kg) plus oral moderate-dose aspirin (30-50 mg·kg-1·d-1) until the patient is afebrile for at least 48 hours, or immunoglobulin plus low-dose aspirin (3-5 mg·kg-1·d-1) as initial treatment. The primary outcome will be the occurrence of CAAs at 8 weeks after immunoglobulin infusion. Independent blinded pediatric cardiologists will assess the primary endpoint using echocardiography. CONCLUSIONS: There is a shortage of consensus on the dose of aspirin therapy for Kawasaki disease due to the lack of evidence. The results of our randomized trial will provide more concrete evidence for the efficacy and adverse events of low- or moderate-dose aspirin in the acute phase of Kawasaki disease. The elite bull plays an extremely important role in the genetic progression of the dairy cow population. The previous results indicated the potential positive relationship of large scrotal circumference (SC) with improved semen volume, concentration, and motility. In order to improve bull's semen quantity and quality by selection, it is necessary to estimate the genetic parameters of semen traits and their correlations with other conformation traits such as SC that could be used for an indirect selection. In this study, the genetic parameters of seven semen traits (n = 66,260) and nine conformation traits (n = 3,642) of Holstein bulls (n = 453) were estimated by using the bivariate repeatability animal model with the average information-restricted maximum likelihood (AI-REML) approach. The results showed that the estimated heritabilities of semen traits ranged from 0.06 (total number of motile sperm, TNMS) to 0.37 (percentage of abnormal sperm, PAS) and conformation traits ranged from 0.23 (pin width, PW) to 0.69 (hip height, HH). The highest genetic correlations were found between semen volume per ejaculation (SVPE), semen concentration per ejaculation (SCPE), total number of sperm (TNS), and TNMS traits that were 0.97, 0.98, 1.00, and 0.99, respectively. Phenotypic correlations between SC and SVPE, SCPE, TNS, and TNMS were 0.35, 0.35, 0.48, and 0.42, respectively. In summary, the moderate or high heritability of semen traits indicates that genetic improvement of semen quality by selection is feasible, where SC could be a useful trait for indirect selection or as correlated information to improve semen quantity and production in the practical bull breeding programs.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of eye signs in predicting poor outcomes in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). METHODS: This prospective observational study recruited patients diagnosed with SLE-PAH from Jan. 2021 to Dec. 2021 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University; those with other potential causes of PAH were excluded. The evaluation of various parameters, such as N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), 6-minute walking distance (6MWD), World Health Organization functional class (WHO-FC), echocardiography, and risk stratification based on the 2015 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Respiratory Society (ERS) Guidelines, was conducted at intervals of every 1-3 months, and a 6-month follow-up period was observed. The primary outcome measure considered improvement if there was a decline in the risk stratification grade at the end point and unimproved if there was no decline. Conjunctival microvascular images were observed and recorded. RESULTS: A total of 29 SLE-PAH patients were enrolled, comprising 12 in the improved group and 17 in the nonimproved group. All SLE-PAH patients showed various manifestations of eye signs, including vessel twisting, dilation, ischaemic areas, haemorrhages, reticulum deformity, and wound spots. The nonimproved group exhibited significantly lower vessel density (VD) and microvascular flow index (MFI) of conjunctival microvascular images than the improved group. Correlation analysis revealed that VD displayed a negative correlation with the WHO-FC (r = -0.413, p = 0.026) and NT-proBNP (r = -0.472, p = 0.010), as well as a positive correlation with the 6MWD (r = 0.561, p = 0.002). Similarly, MFI exhibited a negative correlation with WHO-FC (r = -0.408, p = 0.028) and NT-proBNP (r = -0.472, p = 0.010) and a positive correlation with 6MWD (r = 0.157, p = 0.004). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that VD (OR 10.11, 95% CI 1.95-52.36), MFI (OR 7.85, 95% CI 1.73-35.67), NT-proBNP, and 6MWD were influential factors in predicting the prognostic improvement of SLE-PAH patients. ROC curve analysis demonstrated that VD, MFI, 6MWD, and NT-proBNP (with respective AUC values of 0.83, 0.83, 0.76, and 0.90, respectively) possessed a sensitivity and specificity of 75 and 100%, as well as 83 and 100%, respectively. Regarding prognostic prediction, VD and MFI exhibited higher sensitivity than 6MWD, whereas MFI displayed higher sensitivity and specificity than NT-proBNP. CONCLUSION: SLE-PAH can lead to various conjunctival microvascular manifestations in which vascular density and microvascular flow index can be used to assess cardiopulmonary function and predict therapeutic efficacy and prognosis in SLE-PAH patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate characteristics associated with different COVID-19 outcomes of people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and COVID-19 during the second pandemic wave of COVID-19 in China. METHODS: In this retrospective study, people with SLE and COVID-19 who visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from December 2022 and February 2023 were subjected to this study. The three possible outcomes were listed in order of ordinal severity: (1) not hospitalized, (2) hospitalized but not receiving oxygenation, and (3) hospitalized with any ventilation or oxygenation. A multivariable ordinal logistic regression model was built to examine the association between COVID-19 severity and demographic traits, medications, comorbidities, and disease activity. Furthermore, among the 301 SLE patients included in our study, only two patients experienced mortality. In order to maintain statistical rigor, we have included these two deceased patients in the outcome measure of hospitalized with any ventilation or oxygenation. RESULTS: A total of 301 patients with SLE were enrolled in this study. The multivariate ordinal logistic regression analyses indicated that high SLE disease activity (vs remission; OR 39.04, 95% CI 3.08 to 494.44, p = .005) was associated with more severe outcomes. Three doses of COVID-19 vaccination (OR 0.19, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.51, p = .001), glucocorticoids dose (1-5 mg/day 0.14, 0.03 to 0.73, p = .020, and 6-9 mg/day 0.12, 0.02 to 0.61, p = .010), and more intensive immunosuppression drugs (0.34, 0.12 to 0.97, p = .044) were associated with better outcomes. In age-adjusted and sex-adjusted models, telitacicept (6.66, 1.35 to 32.86, p = .020) and rituximab (7.81, 1.87 to 32.66, p = .005) were associated with more severe outcomes. Hydroxychloroquine (0.47, 0.25 to 0.88, p = .018) was associated with favorable outcomes. CONCLUSION: Different COVID-19 outcomes in people with SLE are mostly driven by COVID-19 vaccination, medications, and activity SLE. More importantly, three doses of COVID-19 vaccination may be associated with better outcomes.
