α-thalassemia major (α-TM) often causes Hb Bart's (c4) hydrops fetalis and severe obstetric complications in the mother. Step-wise screening for couples at risk of having offspring(s) affected by α-TM is the efficient prevention method but some rare genotypes of thalassemia cannot be detected. A 32-year-old male with low HbA2 (2.4%) and mild anemia was performed real-time PCR-based multicolor melting curve analysis (MMCA) because his wife was -SEA deletion carrier. The result of multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) suggested the existence of -SEA deletion in the proband. A novel deletion of the α-globin gene cluster was found using self-designed MLPA probes combined with longer PCR, which was further accurately described to be 16.8Kb (hg38, Chr16:1,65,236-1,82,113) deletion by the third-generation sequencing. A fragment ranging from 1,53,226 to 1,54,538(GRch38/hg38) was identified which suggested the existence of the homologous recombination event. The third-generation sequencing is accurate and efficient in obtaining accurate information for complex structural variations.

In this paper, a novel, simple and mild soft template assisted strategy and further carbonization approach has been constructed to the size-tunable preparation of porous Cu-N-C/Surfactant catalysts successfully. Note that the pluronic F127 has a significant influence on the synthesis of porous Cu-N-C/F127 with the atomically dispersed Cu-N4 and adjacent Cu atomic clusters (ACs) than other surfactants owing to their particular non-ionic structure. By combining a series of experimental analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the synergistic effects between the adjacent Cu ACs and atomically dispersed Cu-N4 are favorable for manipulating the binding energy of O2 adsorption and intermediates desorption at the atomic interface of catalysts, resulting in an excellent electrocatalytic ORR performance with a faster kinetics for Cu-N-C/F127 than those of the Cu-N-C, Cu-N-C/CTAB, Cu-N-C/SDS, and comparable with the commercial Pt/C catalyst. This method not only provides a novel approach for synthesizing highly effective copper based single atom catalysts toward ORR, but also offers an in-depth understanding of the synergisms of adjacent ACs on the Cu single atoms (SAs) for highly effective electrocatalytic ORR and Zn-air Battery.

Purpose: Chest computed tomography (CT) is used to determine the severity of COVID-19 pneumonia, and pneumonia is associated with hyponatremia. This study aims to explore the predictive value of the semi-quantitative CT visual score for hyponatremia in patients with COVID-19 to provide a reference for clinical practice. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 343 patients with RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19, all patients underwent CT, and the severity of lung lesions was scored by radiologists using the semi-quantitative CT visual score. The risk factors of hyponatremia in COVID-19 patients were analyzed and combined with laboratory tests. The thyroid function changes caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection and their interaction with hyponatremia were also analyzed. Results: In patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, the total severity score (TSS) of hyponatremia was higher [M(range), 3.5(2.5-5.5) vs 3.0(2.0-4.5) scores, P=0.001], implying that patients with hyponatremia had more severe lung lesions. The risk factors of hyponatremia in the multivariate regression model included age, vomiting, neutrophils, platelet, and total severity score. SARS-CoV-2 infection impacted thyroid function, and patients with hyponatremia showed a lower free triiodothyronine (3.1 ± 0.9 vs 3.7 ± 0.9, P=0.001) and thyroid stimulating hormone level [1.4(0.8-2.4) vs 2.2(1.2-3.4), P=0.038]. Conclusion: Semi-quantitative CT score can be used as a risk factor for hyponatremia in patients with COVID-19. There is a weak positive correlation between serum sodium and free triiodothyronine in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Objective: To compare the prognostic differences between non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with mild and severe checkpoint inhibitor-associated pneumonitis (CIP), and explore the causes of death and prognostic risk factors in NSCLC patients with severe CIP. Methods: A retrospective study of a cohort of 116 patients with unresectable stage III or IV NSCLC with any grade CIP from April 2016 to August 2022 were conducted. To analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with different CIP grades, patients were divided into mild CIP group (grade 1-2, n=49) and severe CIP group (grade 3-5, n=67) according to the grade of CIP. To explore the OS-related risk factors in the severe CIP group, the patients were divided into a good prognosis (GP) group (≥ median OS, n=30) and a poor prognosis (PP) group (< median OS, n=37) based on whether their overall survival (OS) were greater than median OS. Baseline clinical and laboratory data were collected for analysis. Results: The median OS of all NSCLC patients combined with CIP was 11.4 months (95%CI, 8.070-16.100), The median OS for mild CIP and severe CIP was 22.1 months and 4.4 months respectively (HR=3.076, 95%CI, 1.904-4.970, P<0.0001). The results showed that the most common cause of death among severe CIP patients in the PP group was CIP and the most common cause in the GP group was tumor. The univariate regression analysis showed that suspension of antitumor therapy was a risk factor for poor prognosis (OR=3.598, 95%CI, 1.307-9.905, p=0.013). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that suspension of anti-tumor therapy (OR=4.24, 95%CI, 1.067-16.915, p=0.040) and elevated KL-6 (OR=1.002, 95%CI, 1.001-1.002, p<0.001) were independent risk factors for poor prognosis. Conclusion: In conclusion, patients with severe CIP had a poor prognosis, especially those with elevated KL-6, and the main cause of death is immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated pneumonitis complicated with infection. In addition, anti-tumor therapy for severe CIP patients should be resumed in time and should not be delayed for too long.

The electronic structure of the strongly correlated electron system plutonium hexaboride is studied by using single-particle approximations and a many-body approach. Imaginary components of impurity Green's functions show that 5fj=5/2 and 5fj=7/2 manifolds are in conducting and insulating regimes, respectively. Quasi-particle weights and their ratio suggest that the intermediate coupling mechanism is applicable for Pu 5f electrons, and PuB6 might be in the orbital-selective localized state. The weighted summation of occupation probabilities yields the interconfiguration fluctuation and average occupation number of 5f electrons n5f ~ 5.101. The interplay of 5f-5f correlation, spin-orbit coupling, Hund's exchange interaction, many-body transition of 5f configurations, and final state effects might be responsible for the quasiparticle multiplets in electronic spectrum functions. Prominent characters in the density of state, such as the coexistence of atomic multiplet peaks in the vicinity of the Fermi level and broad Hubbard bands in the high-lying regime, suggest that PuB6 could be identified as a Racah material. Finally, the quasiparticle band structure is also presented.

Oral infectious diseases have a significant impact on the health of oral and maxillofacial regions, as well as the overall well-being of individuals. Carvacrol and thymol, two isomers known for their effective antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, have gained considerable attention in the treatment of oral infectious diseases. However, their application as topical drugs for oral use is limited due to their poor physical and chemical stability. UiO-66, a metal-organic framework based on zirconium ion (Zr4+), exhibits high drug loading capability. Carvacrol and thymol were efficiently loaded onto UiO-66 with loading rates of 79.60 ± 0.71% and 79.65 ± 0.76%, respectively. The release rates of carvacrol and thymol were 77.82 ± 0.87% and 76.51 ± 0.58%, respectively, after a period of 72 h. Moreover, Car@UiO-66 and Thy@UiO-66 demonstrated excellent antibacterial properties against Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus with minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) of 0.313 mg/mL, 0.313 mg/mL, and 1.25 mg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, based on the results of the CCK8 cytotoxicity assay, even at concentrations as high as 1.25 mg/mL, Car@UiO-66 and Thy@UiO-66 exhibited excellent biocompatibility with a relative cell survival rate above 50%. These findings suggest that Car@UiO-66 and Thy@UiO-66 possess favorable biocompatibility properties without significant toxicity towards periodontal membrane cells. Additionally, in vivo studies confirmed the efficacy of Car@UiO-66and Thy@UiO-66 in reducing inflammation, promoting bone formation through inhibition of TNF-a and IL6 expression, enhancement of IL10 expression, and acceleration of bone defect healing. Therefore, the unique combination of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and osteogenic properties make Car@UiO-66 and Thy@Ui O-66 promising candidates for the treatment of oral infectious diseases and repairing bone defects.

Purpose: There is evidence that long-term vascular risk remains increased in patients with hyperthyroidism even after normalization of thyroid function, and the mechanisms that regulate this risk are unclear. The aim of this study was to assess how visceral fat area and subcutaneous fat area change after hyperthyroidism treatment, and to further explore the relationship between thyroid hormones, abdominal fat area (visceral fat area and subcutaneous fat area), and lipids. Patients and Methods: 50 patients with newly diagnosed Graves' disease were selected. Anthropometric parameters (weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, neck circumference), laboratory parameters (thyroid hormones, lipid metabolism indices), abdominal fat area (visceral fat area and subcutaneous fat area), and drug dose were collected. Measurements were made at baseline, 6 and 12 months after treatment. We used linear mixed-effects models for analysis. Results: The results showed that the following indexes changed significantly at different time points: visceral fat area, subcutaneous fat area, free triiodothyronine, free thyroxine, thyroid stimulating hormone, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, body weight, neck circumference, body mass index, waist circumference, and drug dose (All P<0.001). We found that free triiodothyronine and free thyroxine were significantly negatively associated with abdominal fat area (P<0.01). There was no significant correlation between drug dose and abdominal fat area (P>0.05). Total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein were significantly positively associated with abdominal fat area (P<0.01). However, high-density lipoprotein (P=0.06) was not correlated with abdominal fat area. Moreover, the results showed a significant negative correlation between thyroid hormones and lipids (P<0.001). Conclusion: After anti-thyroid medicine treatment, patients had elevated visceral fat area and subcutaneous fat area and altered lipid profiles. These changes may be one of the reasons why metabolic and cardiovascular diseases remain increased after thyroid function is restored.

With the increasing frequency of global heatwaves, the incidence of heatstroke (HS) is significantly rising. The liver plays a crucial role in metabolism and is an organ highly sensitive to temperature. Acute liver injury (ALI) frequently occurs in patients with HS, yet the exact mechanisms driving ALI in HS are still unknown. In this basic study, we investigated the specific molecular mechanisms by which cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) mediates ferroptosis, contributing to the development of ALI following HS. We utilized a mouse model of HS and divided the mice into healthy control and HS groups for a series of experiments. Firstly, we assessed oxidative damage markers in tissues and cells, as well as ferroptosis biomarkers. Additionally, we conducted a non-targeted metabolomics analysis to validate the role of key enzymes in metabolism and the ferroptosis pathway. Our results indicated that ferroptosis contributed to the progression of ALI after HS. Administering the ferroptosis inhibitor liproxstatin-1 (10 mg/kg) post-HS onset significantly inhibits HS-induced ALI progression. Mechanistically, heatstroke triggered cPLA2 activation and increased the levels of its metabolic product, arachidonic acid, thereby further promoted the occurrence of ferroptosis. Furthermore, heatstroke mediated cPLA2 activation might involve enhancing transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1) receptor function. Overall, these results highlighted the critical role that cPLA2-mediated ferroptosis plays in the development of ALI following HS, indicating that inhibiting cPLA2 may present a novel therapeutic approach to prevent ALI after HS by limiting liver cell death.

Brain metastases and lung metastases are major causes of treatment failure and related mortality in melanoma. Fluoxetine hydrochloride (FXT), a widely-used antidepressant, has emerged as a potential anticancer agent in preclinical studies. Previous research has shown its potential to inhibit melanoma. However, its efficacy and the underlying mechanisms in melanoma metastasis, especially concerning brain metastases and lung metastases, remain underexplored. This study investigates FXT's inhibitory effects on melanoma growth and metastasis to the lung and brain. Employing a combination of in vitro assays, we demonstrate FXT's potent suppression of melanoma growth through induction of intrinsic apoptosis, disruption of autophagic flux, and cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase. In in vivo mouse models, we found that FXT exhibits strong inhibitory activity against melanoma brain metastases and lung metastases. Our findings provide a foundation for future clinical exploration of FXT as a novel treatment strategy for melanoma, underscoring its ability to target both primary and metastatic lesions.

The bidirectional migration of halides and silver causes irreversible chemical corrosion to the electrodes and perovskite layer, affecting long-term operation stability of perovskite solar cells. Here we propose a silver coordination-induced n-doping of [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester strategy to safeguard Ag electrode against corrosion and impede the migration of iodine within the PSCs. Meanwhile, the coordination between DCBP and silver induces n-doping in the PCBM layer, accelerating electron extraction from the perovskite layer. The resultant PSCs demonstrate an efficiency of 26.03% (certified 25.51%) with a minimal non-radiative voltage loss of 126 mV. The PCE of resulting devices retain 95% of their initial value after 2500 h of continuous maximum power point tracking under one-sun irradiation, and > 90% of their initial value even after 1500 h of accelerated aging at 85 °C and 85% relative humidity.

Abscisic acid (ABA) is a drought-stress-responsive hormone that plays an important role in the stomatal activity of plant leaves. Currently, ABA glycosides have been identified in apples, but their glycosyltransferases for glycosylation modification of ABA are still unidentified. In this study, the mRNA expression of glycosyltransferase gene MdUGT73AR4 was significantly up-regulated in mature apple leaves which were treated in drought stress by Real-Time PCR. It was hypothesised that MdUGT73AR4 might play an important role in drought stress. In order to further characterise the glycosylation modification substrate of glycosyltransferase MdUGT73AR4, we demonstrated through in vitro and in vivo functional validation that MdUGT73AR4 can glycosylate ABA. Moreover, the overexpression lines of MdUGT73AR4 significantly enhance its drought stress resistance function. We also found that the adversity stress transcription factor AREB1B might be an upstream transcription factor of MdUGT73AR4 by bioinformatics, EMSA, and ChIP experiments. In conclusion, this study found that the adversity stress transcription factor AREB1B was significantly up-regulated at the onset of drought stress, which in turn positively regulated the downstream glycosyltransferase MdUGT73AR4, causing it to modify ABA by mass glycosylation and promoting the ABA synthesis pathway, resulting in the accumulation of ABA content, and displaying a stress-resistant phenotype.

Recently, blackleg disease has seriously impacted the cultivation and development of Brassica crops. In this study, we conducted mapping-based localization of blackleg-resistant candidate genes in Chinese cabbage. Through phenotype evaluation, Chinese cabbage materials 15S414 and 15S420 were selected as blackleg-resistant and blackleg-susceptible parents, respectively. Inheritance pattern analysis suggested that the dominant major genes mainly determined the blackleg resistance of Chinese cabbage. Upon bulked segregation analysis , the blackleg-resistant candidate genes were initially located within a 4.3 Mb interval on chromosome A06. Through construction of the genetic linkage map, blackleg-resistant candidate genes were further limited to a region of 160 kb containing seven resistance-related genes. Coding sequence variation analysis revealed that all seven resistance-related genes displayed various degrees of single nucleotide polymorphism variations between parent materials 15S414 and 15S420.

BACKGROUND: Although normal acute phase reactants (APRs) play an important role in assessing disease activity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), some studies pointed out the discordance between disease activity and APR level. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios (NLRs), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratios (PLRs) and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratios (LMRs) have been reported to be sensitive measures of inflammatory reaction. This study aims to explore the value of these haematological makers in assessment of APR-negative RA patients. METHODS: Out of a cohort of 418 consecutive patients with RA, we enrolled 135 patients with normal APR for this study. We performed ultrasound assessments to evaluate synovitis and bone erosion in the affected joints. Synovitis was evaluated by ultrasound grey scale (GS) and power Doppler (PD) with semi-quantitative scoring (0-3). Demographic, clinical and laboratory data were collected from the patients. Disease Activity Score-28 joints (DAS28), NLR, MLR and PLR were calculated. RESULTS: In RA patients with normal APR, PLR exhibited a positive correlation with ultrasound-detected synovitis and bone erosion, whereas NLR, MLR showed no significant correlation with ultrasonography parameters. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for identifying synovitis with a GS grade ≥2 based on a PLR cutoff value of ≥159.6 was 0.7868 (sensitivity: 80.95%, specificity: 74.24%). For synovitis with a PD grade ≥2, the AUC was 0.7690, using a PLR cutoff value of ≥166.1 (sensitivity: 68.0%, specificity: 83.87%). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggested that PLR might be a reliable and cost-effective marker for identifying moderate-to-severe synovitis in RA patients with normal APR.

The accurate prediction of spatial variation trends in groundwater SO42- is of great significance for improving groundwater quality and regional groundwater management level. The multi-source spatio-temporal data such as land cover data, soil parameter data, digital elevation data, and groundwater pH value in the plain area of the Yarkant River Basin in 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2020 were used as characteristic variables to analyze their correlation with groundwater SO42- concentration. To enhance the prediction accuracy, the Bayesian optimization algorithm (BOA) was used to optimize the random forest regression (RFR). Based on the BOA-RFR model, the importance of the characteristic variables was analyzed, the prediction accuracy of the model was evaluated, and the groundwater SO42- prediction map was generated. The results showed that pH value, ground elevation (GE), and percentage of bare land (BAR) in the contribution area were important parameters influencing groundwater hydrochemical composition, which were significantly negatively correlated with groundwater SO42- concentration, and the importance of impact factors for predicting groundwater SO42- concentration exceeded 25 %. The geostatistical interpolation method was used as an auxiliary tool for the predictive modeling of spatial distribution. After adding auxiliary samples, the R2 of groundwater SO42- concentration prediction of the BOA-RFR model was greater than 0.96, and the maximum values of RMSE and MAE were reduced by 4.7 % and 23.8 %, respectively, compared with the minimum values of the model with fewer samples. The SO42- concentration prediction map showed that high SO42- groundwater was enriched in the northeast of the plain area of the Yarkand River Basin, an area that was expanding.

OBJECTIVE: For elderly femoral neck fracture patients, anemia is one of the most common complications, increasing the risk of postoperative adverse events. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been widely applied to the perioperative blood management. However, the optimal route of TXA administration in elderly femoral neck fracture remains unclear. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral and intravenous (IV) application of TXA in elderly patients with femoral neck fracture undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) and hemiarthroplasty (HA). METHODS: All elderly patients aged over 65 years old diagnosed with femoral neck fracture admitted to the trauma orthopedics from August 1, 2020 to February 28, 2022 were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. Participants were divided into three groups: oral group: TXA 2g orally 2 h before incision; IV group: intravenous infusion of TXA 1g 15 min before incision; and control group: usual hemostatic method. The primary outcomes were total blood loss, allogeneic transfusion rate, and postoperative thromboembolic events. SPSS 23.0 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA) was used for statistical analysis, and p ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: A total of 100 patients were enrolled, including 32 cases in the oral group, 34 cases in the IV group and 34 cases in the control group. Compared with the control group, the total perioperative blood loss in the oral and IV groups was significantly decreased (763.92 ± 358.64 mL vs 744.62 ± 306.88 mL vs 1250.60 ± 563.37 mL, p = 0.048). No significant difference was identified between the oral and IV groups (p = 0.970). The rate of allogeneic transfusion was lower in the oral and IV groups than in the control group, but the difference had no statistical significant (6 vs 5 vs 12, p = 0.108), However, subgroup analysis showed that the IV and oral groups in patients who underwent THA have significant lower transfusion rate compared with the control group (1 vs 3 vs 7, p = 0.02). During 6 months follow-up, no thromboembolic events were identified. Two patients (one from the oral group and one from the control group) died of respiratory failure. The cost of blood management from the oral group was significantly lower than IV (p < 0.001) and control groups (p = 0.009). CONCLUSION: Elderly patients with femoral neck fracture undergoing THA can benefit from both IV and oral administration of tranexamic acid. The results of these two administration routes are similar in safety and effectiveness. A similar tendency was observed in patients undergoing HA. Oral TXA is more cost-benefit compared with intravenous applications.

Cyclic Nucleotide-Gated Channels (CNGCs) serve as Ca2+ permeable cation transport pathways, which are involved in the regulation of various biological functions such as plant cell ion selective permeability, growth and development, responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. At the present study, a total of 31 CNGC genes were identified and bioinformatically analyzed in kenaf. Among these genes, HcCNGC21 characterized to localize at the plasma membrane, with the highest expression levels in leaves, followed by roots. In addition, HcCNGC21 could be significantly induced under salt or drought stress. Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of HcCNGC21 in kenaf caused notable growth inhibition under salt or drought stress, characterized by reductions in plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, root length, root surface area, and root tip number. Meanwhile, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) were significantly decreased, accompanied by reduced levels of osmoregulatory substances and total chlorophyll content. However, ROS accumulation and Na+ content increased. The expression of stress-responsive genes, such as HcSOD, HcPOD, HcCAT, HcERF3, HcNAC29, HcP5CS, HcLTP, and HcNCED, was significantly downregulated in these silenced lines. However, under salt or drought stress, the physiological performance and expression of stress-related genes in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plants overexpressing HcCNGC21 were diametrically opposite to those of TRV2-HcCNGC21 kenaf line. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assays revealed that HcCNGC21 interacts with HcAnnexin D1. These findings collectively underscore the positive role of HcCNGC21 in plant resistance to salt and drought stress.

Alzheimers disease leads to progressive neurodegeneration and dementia. Alzheimers disease primarily affects older adults with neuropathological changes including amyloid beta deposition, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration. We have previously demonstrated that systemic treatment with combined stem cell factor, SCF, and granulocyte colony stimulating factor, GCSF, reduces amyloid beta load, increases amyloid beta uptake by activated microglia and macrophages, reduces neuroinflammation, and restores dendrites and synapses in the brains of aged APP-PS1 mice. However, the mechanisms underlying SCF-GCSF-enhanced brain repair in aged APP-PS1 mice remain unclear. This study used a transcriptomic approach to identify potential mechanisms by which SCF-GCSF treatment modulates microglia and peripheral myeloid cells to mitigate Alzheimers disease pathology in the aged brain. After injections of SCF-GCSF for 5 consecutive days, single cell RNA sequencing was performed on CD11b positive cells isolated from the brains of 28-month-old APP-PS1 mice. The vast majority of cell clusters aligned with transcriptional profiles of microglia in various activation states. However, SCF-GCSF treatment dramatically increased a cell population showing upregulation of marker genes related to peripheral myeloid cells. Flow cytometry data also revealed an SCF-GCSF-induced increase of cerebral CD45high-CD11b positive active phagocytes. SCF-GCSF treatment robustly increased the transcription of genes implicated in immune cell activation, including gene sets that regulate inflammatory processes and cell migration. Expression of S100a8 and S100a9 were robustly enhanced following SCF-GCSF treatment in all CD11b positive cell clusters. Moreover, the topmost genes differentially expressed with SCF-GCSF treatment were largely upregulated in S100a8-S100a9 positive cells, suggesting a well-conserved transcriptional profile related to SCF-GCSF treatment in resident and peripherally derived CD11b positive immune cells. This S100a8-S100a9-associated transcriptional profile contained notable genes related to proinflammatory and antiinflammatory responses, neuroprotection, and amyloid beta plaque inhibition or clearance. Altogether, this study reveals immunomodulatory effects of SCF-GCSF treatment in the aged brain with Alzheimers disease pathology, which will guide future studies to further uncover the therapeutic mechanisms.

Nicosulfuron, an acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor herbicide, is a broad-spectrum and highly effective post-emergence herbicide. Glycosyltransferases (GTs) are widely found in organisms and transfer sugar molecules from donors to acceptors to form glycosides or sugar esters, thereby altering the physicochemical properties of the acceptor molecule, such as participating in detoxification. In this study, nine glycosyltransferases in group D of the apple glycosyltransferase family I were predicted to possibly be involved in the detoxification metabolism of ALS-inhibiting herbicides based on gene chip data published online. In order to confirm this, we analysed whether the expression of the nine glycosyltransferase genes in group D was induced by the previously reported ALS-inhibiting herbicides by real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction). It was found that the ALS-inhibiting herbicide nicosulfuron significantly increased the expression of the MdUGT73CG22 gene in group D. Further investigation of the mechanism of action revealed that the apple glycosyltransferase MdUGT73CG22 glycosylated and modified nicosulfuron both in vivo and ex vivo to form nicosulfuron glycosides, which were involved in detoxification metabolism. In conclusion, a new glycosyltransferase, MdUGT73CG22, was identified for the first time in this study, which can glycosylate modifications of the ALS-inhibiting herbicide nicosulfuron and may be involved in the detoxification process in plants, which can help to further improve the knowledge of the non-targeted mechanism of herbicides.

Among various electrocatalysts, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have gained significant attention for their unique properties and excellent catalytic activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, the precise synthesis of HEA catalysts in small sizes remains challenging, which limits further improvement in their catalytic performance. In this study, boron- and nitrogen-doped HEA porous carbon nanofibers (HE-BN/PCNF) with an in situ-grown dendritic structure were successfully prepared, inspired by the germination and growth of tree branches. Furthermore, the dendritic fibers constrained the growth of HEA particles, leading to the synthesis of quantum dot-sized (1.67 nm) HEA particles, which also provide a pathway for designing HEA quantum dots in the future. This work provides design ideas and guiding suggestions for the preparation of borated HEA fibers with different elemental combinations and for the application of dendritic nanofibers in various fields.
