Intestinal dysfunction plays a pivotal role in the development of acute pancreatitis (AP), however, the underlying mechanisms of intestinal dysfunction on severity of hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP) are still unclear. Herein, we explored the role of intestinal function on the severity of HLAP. We found that HLAP patients exhibit higher lipid and inflammatory response than AP patients. Hyperlipidemia significantly elevates serum lipids and worsen pancreatic damage in AP mice. In addition, significant exacerbated intestinal barrier damage and inflammation were observed in experimental HLAP mice, as evidenced by increased serum amylase and lipase levels, and pancreatic edema. Further, RNA-Seq showed that a markedly decrease of glutathione S-transferase pi (GSTpi) in colonic tissue of HLAP mice compared with AP mice, accompanied with increased serum lipopolysaccharides level. However, colonic GSTpi overexpression by adeno-associated virus significantly attenuated intestinal damage and subsequent pancreatic inflammation in HLAP mice. Mechanistically, GSTpi mitigated HLAP-mediated colonic NLRP3 inflammasome activation and barrier dysfunction. These results suggest that intestinal GSTpi deficiency exacerbates the severity of experimental HLAP, providing new insights for the clinical treatment of HLAP.

To comprehensively investigate the molecular transmission patterns of HIV-1 genotypes among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Chongqing, we employed 392 pol sequences of MSM to construct a phylogenetic tree and gene transmission network. Among the viral subtypes, CRF07_BC accounted for 73.2% (287/392) and CRF01_AE accounted for 20.7% (81/392), emerging as the predominant subtypes in this investigation. Additionally, we observed the presence of CRF55_01B, subtype B, CRF08_BC and other circulating recombinant forms. The HIV-1 molecular network was constructed with a gene distance threshold of 1.5%, resulting in an entry rate of 61.4% (241/392). Within the network, we identified a total of 23 molecular clusters, with the largest cluster being the CRF07_BC molecular cluster comprising 148 node values. Transmitted drug-resistance (TDR) mutations were found in 4.34% of the cases, with 1.79% associated with protease inhibitors (PIs), 0.51% with nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), and 2.55% with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Statistical analysis indicated a higher enrollment rate in the HIV-1 molecular network among infected individuals with the CRF07_BC subtype, those identifying with same-sex sexual roles as "vers," and individuals with higher education levels. This suggests the need for strengthened investigation and intervention in this population to prevent the formation of larger transmission clusters. Furthermore, continuous monitoring of the HIV-1 molecular dynamics network is necessary to promptly and accurately track changes in molecular epidemic characteristics.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: The effects of fathers' high-fat diet (HFD) on the reproductive health of their male offspring (HFD- F1) remain to be elucidated. Parental obesity is known to have a negative effect on offspring fertility, but there are few relevant studies on the effects of HFD-F1 on reproductive function. METHODS: We first succeeded in establishing the HFD model, which provides a scientific basis in the analysis of HFD-F1 reproductive health. Next, we assessed biometric indices, intratesticular cellular status, seminiferous tubules and testicular transcriptomic homeostasis in HFD-F1. Finally, we examined epididymal (sperm-containing) apoptosis, as well as antioxidant properties, motility, plasma membrane oxidation, DNA damage, and sperm-egg binding in the epididymal sperm. RESULTS: Our initial results showed that HFD-F1 mice had characteristics similar to individuals with obesity, including higher body weight and altered organ size. Despite no major changes in the types of testicular cells, we found decreased activity of important genes and noticed the presence of abnormally shaped sperm at seminiferous tubule lumen. Further analysis of HFD-F1 testes suggests that these changes might be caused by increased vulnerability to oxidative stress. Finally, we measured several sperm parameters, these results presented HFD-F1 offspring exhibited a deficiency in antioxidant properties, resulting in damaged sperm mitochondrial membrane potential, insufficient ATP content, increased DNA fragmentation, heightened plasma membrane oxidation, apoptosis-prone and decreased capacity for sperm-oocyte binding during fertilization. CONCLUSION: HFD- F1 subfertility arises from the susceptibility of the transcriptional network to oxidative stress, resulting in reduced antioxidant properties, motility, sperm-egg binding, and elevated DNA damage. Notably, excessive accumulation of ROS surpasses the physiological threshold, thereby damaging PUFAs within the sperm plasma membrane. This oxidative assault affects crucial components such as mitochondria and DNA. Consequently, the sperm's antioxidant defense mechanisms become compromised, leading to a decline in vitality, motility, and fertility.

The diagnosis of pneumoconiosis is complex and subjective, leading to inevitable variability in readings. This is especially true for inexperienced doctors. To improve accuracy, a computer-assisted diagnosis system is used for more effective pneumoconiosis diagnoses. Three models (Resnet50, Resnet101, and DenseNet) were used for pneumoconiosis classification based on 1250 chest X-ray images. Three experienced and highly qualified physicians read the collected digital radiography images and classified them from category 0 to category III in a double-blinded manner. The results of the 3 physicians in agreement were considered the relative gold standards. Subsequently, 3 models were used to train and test these images and their performance was evaluated using multi-class classification metrics. We used kappa values and accuracy to evaluate the consistency and reliability of the optimal model with clinical typing. The results showed that ResNet101 was the optimal model among the 3 convolutional neural networks. The AUC of ResNet101 was 1.0, 0.9, 0.89, and 0.94 for detecting pneumoconiosis categories 0, I, II, and III, respectively. The micro-average and macro-average mean AUC values were 0.93 and 0.94, respectively. The accuracy and Kappa values of ResNet101 were 0.72 and 0.7111 for quadruple classification and 0.98 and 0.955 for dichotomous classification, respectively, compared with the relative standard classification of the clinic. This study develops a deep learning based model for screening and staging of pneumoconiosis is using chest radiographs. The ResNet101 model performed relatively better in classifying pneumoconiosis than radiologists. The dichotomous classification displayed outstanding performance, thereby indicating the feasibility of deep learning techniques in pneumoconiosis screening.

Accurate penetration rate prediction enhances rock-breaking efficiency and reduces disc cutter damage in tunnel boring machine (TBM) construction. However, this process faces significant challenges such as the high uncertainty of ground conditions and the complexity of maintaining optimal TBM operation in long and large tunnels. To address these challenges, we propose TCN-SENet++, a novel hybrid multistep real-time penetration rate prediction model that combines a temporal convolutional network (TCN) and a squeeze-and-excitation (SENet) block for aided tunneling. This study aims to demonstrate the application of TCN-SENet++, as well as other models such as RNN, LSTM, GRU, and TCN, for TBM penetration rate prediction. The model was developed using actual datasets collected from the Yin-Song diversion project. We employ a 30-s time step to predict the future time steps of the penetration rate (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th). The features that influence the penetration rate, such as the cutterhead torque, thrust, and cutterhead power, were considered. A comparative analysis using the mean absolute error and mean squared error revealed that the TCN-SENet++ model outperformed the other models, including RNN, LSTM, GRU, TCN, and TCN-SENet+. In comparison, TCN-SENet++ achieved average MSE reductions of 18%, 6%, 3%, 1%, and 2%, respectively. The TCN-SENet++ model demonstrated fewer errors in the new project, validating its effectiveness and suitability for real-time penetration rate prediction in TBM construction.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) remains one of the major causative microorganisms of viral diarrhea in piglets worldwide, with no approved drugs for treatment. We identified a natural molecule, flavonol, which is widely found in tea, vegetables and herbs. Subsequently, the antiviral activity of compound flavonol was evaluated in Vero cells and IPEC-J2 cells, and its anti-PEDV mechanism was analyzed by molecular docking and molecular dynamics. The results showed that flavonol could effectively inhibit viral progeny production, RNA synthesis and protein expression of PEDV strains in a dose-dependent manner. When flavonol was added simultaneously with viral infection in Vero cells, it demonstrated potent anti-PEDV activity by affecting the viral attachment and internalization phases. Similarly, in IPEC-J2 cells, flavonol effectively inhibited PEDV infection at different stages of infection, except for the release phase. Moreover, flavonol mainly interacts with PEDV Mpro through hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic forces, and the complex formed by it has high stability. Importantly, flavonol also showed broad-spectrum activity against other porcine enteric coronaviruses such as TGEV and PDCoV in vitro. These findings suggest that flavonol may exert antiviral effects by interacting with viral Mpro, thereby affecting viral replication. This means that flavonol is expected to become a potential drug to prevent or treat porcine enteric coronavirus.

The interactions of insect vector-virus-plant have important ecological and evolutionary implications. The constant struggle of plants against viruses and insect vectors has driven the evolution of multiple defense strategies in the host as well as counter-defense strategies in the viruses and insect vectors. Cotton leaf curl Multan virus (CLCuMuV) is a major causal agent of cotton leaf curl disease in Asia and is exclusively transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci. Here, we report that plants infected with CLCuMuV and its betasatellite, cotton leaf curl Multan betasatellite (CLCuMuB) enhance the performance of B. tabaci vector, and ßC1 encoded by CLCuMuB plays an important role in begomovirus-whitefly-tobacco tripartite interactions. We showed that CLCuMuB ßC1 suppresses the jasmonic acid signaling pathway by interacting with the subtilisin-like protease 1.7 (NtSBT1.7) protein, thereby enhancing whitefly performance on tobacco plants. Further studies revealed that in the wild type plants, NtSBT1.7 could process tobacco preprohydroxyproline-rich systemin B (NtpreproHypSysB). After CLCuMuB infection, CLCuMuB ßC1 could interfere with the processing of NtpreproHypSysB by NtSBT1.7, thereby impairing plant defenses against whitefly. These results contribute to our understanding of the tripartite interactions among virus, plant, and whitefly, thus offering ecological insights into the spread of vector insect populations and the prevalence of viral diseases.

Th17 cells mediated immune response is the basis of a variety of autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis and its mouse model of immune aspects, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The gene network that drives both the development of Th17 and the expression of its effector program is dependent on the transcription factor RORγt. In this report, we showed that Peptidylprolyl Cis/Trans Isomerase, NIMA-Interacting 1 (Pin1) formed a complex with RORγt, and enhanced its transactivation activity, thus sustained the expression of the effector genes as well as RORγt in the EAE-pathogenic Th17 cells. We first found out that PIN1 was highly expressed in the samples from patients of multiple sclerosis, and the expression of Pin1 by the infiltrating lymphocytes in the central nerve system of EAE mice was elevated as well. An array of experiments with transgenic mouse models, cellular and molecular assays was included in the study to elucidate the role of Pin1 in the pathology of EAE. It turned out that Pin1 promoted the activation and maintained the effector program of EAE-pathogenic Th17 cells in the inflammation foci, but had little effect on the priming of Th17 cells in the draining lymph nodes. Mechanistically, Pin1 stabilized the phosphorylation of STAT3 induced by proinflammatory stimuli, and interacted with STAT3 in the nucleus of Th17 cells, which resulted in the increased expression of Rorc. Moreover, Pin1 formed a complex with RORγt, and enhanced the transactivation of RORγt to the +11 kb enhancer of Rorc, which enforced and maintained the expression of both Rorc and the effector program of pathogenic Th17 cells in EAE. Finally, the inhibition of Pin1, by genetic knockdown or by small molecule inhibitor, deceased the population of Th17 cells and the neuroinflammation, and alleviated the symptoms of EAE. These findings suggest that Pin1 is a potential therapeutic target for MS and other autoimmune inflammatory diseases.

In this paper, we introduce a novel technique that utilizes randomly rotated elements (RREs) for the cross-polarization and axial ratio (AR) control of a circularly polarized programmable metasurface (CPPMS). We evaluate the CPPMS performance by comparing RREs layout with uniform elements (UEs) layout, and analyze far-field radiation parameters for 50 groups of CPPMS with different RREs layouts. Simulation results demonstrate consistent and improved performance across various RREs layouts, showcasing reduced cross-polarization and enhanced AR beamwidth. To validate these findings, we design a 1-bit CPPMS in Ku-band comprising 20 × 20 elements with the optimal RREs layout, and conduct measurements in an anechoic chamber. The CPPMS prototype achieves high gain (22.34 dBi), low cross-polarization (-20.5 dB), and a narrow 3 dB AR beamwidth (8.93°). Notably, it offers wide-angle beam scanning capabilities of up to ±60°. The gain bandwidth at -3 dB ranges from 14.54 to 16.65 GHz, with a relative bandwidth of 7.3%, while the 3 dB AR bandwidth extends from 14.24 to 16.07 GHz. Consequently, the proposed 1-bit CPPMS exhibits high-performance two-dimensional AR beam scanning, presenting promising applications in satellite communications.

An inflammatory response is one of the pathogeneses of depression. The anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of auraptene have previously been confirmed. We established an inflammatory depression model by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection combined with unpredictable chronic mild stress (uCMS), aiming to explore the effects of auraptene on depressive-like behaviors in adult mice. Mice were divided into a control group, vehicle group, fluoxetine group, celecoxib group, and auraptene group. Then, behavioral tests were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of auraptene in ameliorating depressive-like behavior. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) were examined by ELISA. Interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-4 (IL-4), and transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß) were examined by protein chip technology. The morphology of microglia was observed by the immunohistochemical method. The data showed that, compared with the control group, the vehicle group mice exhibited a depressive-like behavioral phenotype, accompanied by an imbalance in inflammatory cytokines and the activation of microglia in the hippocampus. The depressive behaviors of the auraptene group's mice were significantly alleviated, along with the decrease in pro-inflammatory factors and increase in anti-inflammatory factors, while the activation of microglia was inhibited in the hippocampus. Subsequently, we investigated the role of auraptene in vitro-cultured BV-2 cells treated with LPS. The analysis showed that auraptene downregulated the expression of IL-6, TNF-α, and NO, and diminished the ratio of CD86/CD206. The results showed that auraptene reduced the excessive phagocytosis and ROS production of LPS-induced BV2 cells. In conclusion, auraptene relieved depressive-like behaviors in mice probably via modulating hippocampal neuroinflammation mediated by microglia.

This work develops a generalizable neural network, SENSORNET, for sensor feature learning across various applications. The primary challenge addressed is the poor portability of pretrained neural networks to new applications with limited sensor data. To solve this challenge, we design SensorNet, which integrates the flexibility of self-attention with multi-scale feature locality of convolution. Moreover, we invent patch-wise self-attention with stacked multi-heads to enrich the sensor feature representation. SensorNet is generalizable to pervasive applications with any number of sensor inputs, and is much smaller than the state-of-the-art self-attention and convolution hybrid baseline (0.83 M vs. 3.87 M parameters) with similar performance. The experimental results show that SensorNet is able to achieve state-of-the-art performance compared with the top five models on a competition activity recognition dataset (SHL'18). Moreover, pretrained SensorNet in a large inertial measurement unit (IMU) dataset can be fine-tuned to achieve the best accuracy on a much smaller IMU dataset (up to 5% improvement in WISDM) and to achieve the state-of-the-art performance on an EEG dataset (SLEEP-EDF-20), showing the strong generalizability of our approach.

Respiratory burst oxidase homologs (RBOHs), also known as NADPH oxidases, contribute significantly to the production of ROS in plants, alongside other major sources such as photosynthesis and electron transport in chloroplasts. It has been shown that plant RBOHs play an active role in plant adversity response and electron transport. However, the phylogenetic analysis and characterization of the SlRBOH gene family in tomatoes have not been systematically studied. This study identified 11 SlRBOH genes in the tomato genome using a genome-wide search approach. The physicochemical properties, chromosomal localization, subcellular localization, secondary structure, conserved motifs, gene structure, phylogenetics, collinear relationships, cis-acting elements, evolutionary selection pressures, tissue expressions, and expression patterns under exogenous phytohormones (ABA and MeJA) and different abiotic stresses were also analyzed. We found that the SlRBOHs are distributed across seven chromosomes, collinearity reflecting their evolutionary relationships with corresponding genes in Arabidopsis thaliana and rice. Additionally, all the SlRBOH members have five conserved domains and 10 conserved motifs and have similar gene structures. In addition, the results of an evolutionary selection pressure analysis showed that SlRBOH family members evolved mainly by purifying selection, making them more structurally stable. Cis-acting element analyses showed that SlRBOHs were responsive to light, hormone, and abiotic stresses. Tissue expression analysis showed that SlRBOH family members were expressed in all tissues of tomato to varying degrees, and most of the SlRBOHs with the strongest expression were found in the roots. In addition, the expressions of tomato SlRBOH genes were changed by ABA, MeJA, dark period extension, NaCl, PEG, UV, cold, heat, and H2O2 treatments. Specifically, SlRBOH4 was highly expressed under NaCl, PEG, heat, and UV treatments, while SlRBOH2 was highly expressed under cold stress. These results provide a basis for further studies on the function of SlRBOHs in tomato.

Cartilage defects in large joints are a common occurrence in numerous degenerative diseases, especially in osteoarthritis. The hydrogel-on-metal composite has emerged as a potential candidate material, as hydrogels, to some extent, replicate the composition of human articular cartilage consisting of collagen fibers and proteoglycans. However, achieving tough bonding between the hydrogel and titanium alloy remains a significant challenge due to the swelling of the hydrogel in a liquid medium. This swelling results in reduced interfacial toughness between the hydrogel and titanium alloy, limiting its potential clinical applications. Herein, our approach aimed to achieve durable bonding between a hydrogel and a titanium alloy composite in a swollen state by modifying the surface texture of the titanium alloy. Various textures, including circular and triangular patterns, with dimple densities ranging from 10 to 40%, were created on the surface of the titanium alloy. Subsequently, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel was deposited onto the textured titanium alloy using a casting-drying method. Our findings revealed that PVA hydrogel on the textured titanium alloy with a 30% texture density exhibited the highest interfacial toughness in the swollen state, measuring at 1300 J m-2 after reaching equilibrium swelling in deionized water, which is a more than 2-fold increase compared to the hydrogel on a smooth substrate. Furthermore, we conducted an analysis of the morphologies of the detached hydrogel from the textured titanium alloy after various swelling durations. The results indicated that interfacial toughness could be enhanced through mechanical interlocking, facilitated by the expanded volume of the hydrogel protrusions as the swelling time increased. Collectively, our study demonstrates the feasibility of achieving tough bonding between a hydrogel and a metal substrate in a liquid environment. This research opens up promising avenues for designing soft/hard heterogeneous materials with strong adhesive properties.

In recent years, microplastics (MPs) have emerged as a significant environmental pollutant, garnering substantial attention for their migration and transformation behaviors in natural environments. MPs frequently infiltrate natural porous media such as soil, sediment, and rock through various pathways, posing potential threats to ecological systems and human health. Consequently, the migration and adsorption mechanisms applied to MPs in porous media have been extensively studied. This paper aims to elucidate the migration mechanisms of MPs in porous media and their influencing factors through a systematic review. The review encompasses the characteristics of MPs, the physical properties of porous media, and hydrodynamic factors. Additionally, the paper further clarifies the adsorption mechanisms of MPs in porous media to provide theoretical support for understanding their environmental behavior and fate. Furthermore, the current mainstream detection techniques for MPs are reviewed, with an analysis of the advantages, disadvantages, and applications of each technique. Finally, the paper identifies the limitations and shortcomings of current research and envisions future research directions.

Tissue engineering of small-diameter vessels remains challenging due to the inadequate ability to promote endothelialization and infiltration of smooth muscle cells (SMCs). Ideal vascular graft is expected to provide the ability to support endothelial monolayer formation and SMCs infiltration. To achieve this, vascular scaffolds with both orientation and dimension hierarchies were prepared, including hierarchically random vascular scaffold (RVS) and aligned vascular scaffold (AVS), by utilizing degradable poly(ε-caprolactone)-co-poly(ethylene glycol) (PCE) and the blend of PCE/gelatin (PCEG) as raw materials. In addition to the orientation hierarchy, dimension hierarchy with small pores in the inner layer and large pores in the outer layer was also constructed in both RVS and AVS to further investigate the promotion of vascular reconstruction by hierarchical structures in vascular scaffolds. The results show that the AVS with an orientation hierarchy that consists with the natural vascular structure had better mechanical properties and promotion effect on the proliferation of vascular cells than RVS, and also exhibited excellent contact guidance effects on cells. While the dimension hierarchy in both RVS and AVS was favorable to the rapid infiltration of SMCs in a short culture time in vitro. Besides, the results of subcutaneous implantation further demonstrate that AVS achieved a fully infiltrated outer layer with wavy elastic fibers-mimic strips formation by day 14, ascribing to hierarchies of aligned orientation and porous dimension. The results further indicate that the scaffolds with both orientation and dimension hierarchical structures have great potential in the application of promoting the vascular reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) is associated with biliary injury. This study aimed to evaluate the relationships of serum MMP-7 with clinical characteristics in choledochal cysts (CDC) children. METHODS: Between June 2020 and July 2022, we conducted a prospective study of CDCs who underwent one-stage definitive operation at our center. Serum MMP-7 was measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We evaluated the relationships between serum MMP-7 and age, laboratory tests, imaging examinations, liver fibrosis, MMP-7 expression, and perforation. RESULTS: A total of 328 CDCs were enrolled in the study, with a median serum MMP-7 of 7.67 ng/mL. Higher serum MMP-7 was correlated with younger age at diagnosis (p < 0.001), larger cyst sizes (p < 0.001), higher liver fibrosis stages (p < 0.001), and higher incidence of perforation (p < 0.01). Liver MMP-7 was mainly expressed in intrahepatic and extrahepatic biliary epithelial cells. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was 0.630 (p < 0.001) for serum MMP-7 in predicting perforation. When serum MMP-7 was combined with γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT), the AUROC increased to 0.706 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Serum MMP-7 was associated with biliary obstruction in CDCs. Patients with high serum MMP-7 were more likely to have severe liver damage and biliary injury, with higher incidences of liver fibrosis and perforation.

During cardiac development, mechanotransduction from the in vivo microenvironment modulates cardiomyocyte growth in terms of the number, area, and arrangement heterogeneity. However, the response of cells to different degrees of mechanical stimuli is unclear. Organ-on-a-chip, as a platform for investigating mechanical stress stimuli in cellular mimicry of the in vivo microenvironment, is limited by the lack of ability to accurately quantify externally induced stimuli. However, previous technology lacks the integration of external stimuli and feedback sensors in microfluidic platforms to obtain and apply precise amounts of external stimuli. Here, we designed a cell stretching platform with an in-situ sensor. The in-situ liquid metal sensors can accurately measure the mechanical stimulation caused by the deformation of the vacuum cavity exerted on cells. The platform was applied to human cardiomyocytes (AC16) under cyclic strain (5%, 10%, 15%, 20 and 25%), and we found that cyclic strain promoted cell growth induced the arrangement of cells on the membrane to gradually unify, and stabilized the cells at 15% amplitude, which was even more effective after 3 days of culture. The platform's precise control and measurement of mechanical forces can be used to establish more accurate in vitro microenvironmental models for disease modeling and therapeutic research.

Extensive research has been conducted on the utilization of a metal-based catalyst to activate peracetic acid (PAA) for the degradation of micropollutants (MPs) in water. Mn(II) is a commonly employed catalyst for homogeneous advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), but its catalytic performance with PAA is poor. This study showed that the environmentally friendly chelator ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid (EDDS) could greatly facilitate the activation of Mn(II) in PAA for complete atrazine (ATZ) degradation. In this process, the EDDS enhanced the catalytic activity of manganese (Mn) and prevented disproportionation of transient Mn species, thus facilitating the decay of PAA and mineralization of ATZ. By employing electron spin resonance detection, quenching and probe tests, and 18O isotope-tracing experiments, the significance of high-valent Mn-oxo species (Mn(V)) in the Mn(II)-EDDS/PAA system was revealed. In particular, the involvement of the Mn(III) species was essential for the formation of Mn(V). Mn(III) species, along with singlet oxygen (1O2) and acetyl(per)oxyl radicals (CH3C(O)O•/CH3C(O)OO•), also contributed partially to ATZ degradation. Mass spectrometry and density functional theory methods were used to study the transformation pathway and mechanism of ATZ. The toxicity assessment of the oxidative products indicated that the toxicity of ATZ decreased after the degradation reaction. Moreover, the system exhibited excellent interference resistance toward various anions and humid acid (HA), and it could selectively degrade multiple MPs.

With the emergence of autonomous functions in road vehicles, there has been increased use of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems comprising various sensors to perform automated tasks. Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) is one of the most important types of optical sensor, detecting the positions of obstacles by representing them as clusters of points in three-dimensional space. LiDAR performance degrades significantly when a vehicle is driving in the rain as raindrops adhere to the outer surface of the sensor assembly. Performance degradation behaviors include missing points and reduced reflectivity of the points. It was found that the extent of degradation is highly dependent on the interface material properties. This subsequently affects the shapes of the adherent droplets, causing different perturbations to the optical rays. A fundamental investigation is performed on the protective polycarbonate cover of a LiDAR assembly coated with four classes of material-hydrophilic, almost-hydrophobic, hydrophobic, and superhydrophobic. Water droplets are controllably dispensed onto the cover to quantify the signal alteration due to the different droplets of various sizes and shapes. To further understand the effects of droplet motion on LiDAR signals, sliding droplet conditions are simulated using numerical analysis. The results are validated with physical optical tests, using a 905 nm laser source and receiver to mimic the LiDAR detection mechanism. Comprehensive explanations of LiDAR performance degradation in rain are presented from both material and optical perspectives. These can aid component selection and the development of signal-enhancing strategies for the integration of LiDARs into vehicle designs to minimize the impact of rain.

OBJECTIVE: The study sought to investigate the clinical predictive value of quantitative flow ratio (QFR) for the long-term target vessel failure (TVF) outcome in patients with in-stent restenosis (ISR) by using drug-coated balloon (DCB) treatment after a long-term follow-up. METHODS: This was a retrospective study. A total of 186 patients who underwent DCB angioplasty for ISR in two hospitals from March 2014 to September 2019 were enrolled. The QFR of the entire target vessel was measured offline. The primary endpoint was TVF, including target vessel-cardiac death (TV-CD), target vessel-myocardial infarction (TV-MI), and clinically driven-target vessel revascularization (CD-TVR). RESULTS: The follow-up time was 3.09±1.53 years, and 50 patients had TVF. The QFR immediately after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was significantly lower in the TVF group than in the no-TVF group. Multivariable Cox regression analysis indicated that the QFR immediately after PCI was an excellent predictor for TVF after the long-term follow-up [hazard ratio (HR): 5.15×10-5 (6.13×10-8-0.043); P<0.01]. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis demonstrated that the optimal cut-off value of the QFR immediately after PCI for predicting the long-term TVF was 0.925 (area under the curve: 0.886, 95% confidence interval: 0.834-0.938; sensitivity: 83.40%, specificity: 88.00; P<0.01). In addition, QFR≤0.925 post-PCI was strongly correlated with the TVF, including TV-MI and CD-TVR (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The QFR immediately after PCI showed a high predictive value of TVF after a long-term follow-up in ISR patients who underwent DCB angioplasty. A lower QFR immediately after PCI was associated with a worse TVF outcome.
