RESUMO

Gallnut (Mo Shi Zi), as one of the herbs popularly used in traditional Chinese medicine, came into China from Persia in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Gallnut was translated into different names from Persian into Chinese. This study attempted to identify its names, sources and nature by starting with Mo Shi Zi () and comparing with its relevant names Mo Shi Zi(),Ba Lv Zi () and Wu Bei Zi (). It was found that'', meaning black, in Mo Shi Zi () did not make sense because it neither matched the pronunciation in translation nor interpreted the medical meaning of Mo Shi Zi (). Mo Shi Zi () and Ba Lv Zi() were the same herb in traditional Chinese medicine. In Greek and Arabic classic books, Bullut referred to oak groups and their galls, but not Ba Lv Zi (). Ba Lv Zi () in these books referred to Omphacitis. Mo Shi Zi () referred to insect galls in the family of Quercus infectoriain Xi Yao Da Cheng, a book from overseas, and Wu Bei Zi ()appeared in the annotated text of Mo Shi Zi () as a similar herb. It was found that in traditional Chinese medicine, Mo Shi Zi () and Wu Bei Zi( ) were two different herbs, but could be interchanged in their medical nature.

RESUMO

Topological order can be found in a wide range of physical systems, from crystalline solids, photonic meta-materials and even atmospheric waves to optomechanic, acoustic and atomic systems. Topological systems are a robust foundation for creating quantized channels for transporting electrical current, light, and atmospheric disturbances. These topological effects are quantified in terms of integer-valued 'invariants', such as the Chern number, applicable to the quantum Hall effect, or the [Formula: see text] invariant suitable for topological insulators. Here, we report the engineering of Rashba spin-orbit coupling for a cold atomic gas giving non-trivial topology, without the underlying crystalline structure that conventionally yields integer Chern numbers. We validated our procedure by spectroscopically measuring both branches of the Rashba dispersion relation which touch at a single Dirac point. We then measured the quantum geometry underlying the dispersion relation using matter-wave interferometry to implement a form of quantum state tomography, giving a Berry's phase with magnitude π. This implies that opening a gap at the Dirac point would give two dispersions (bands) each with half-integer Chern number, potentially implying new forms of topological transport.

RESUMO

We propose and describe our realization of a deeply subwavelength optical lattice for ultracold neutral atoms using N resonantly Raman-coupled internal degrees of freedom. Although counterpropagating lasers with wavelength λ provided two-photon Raman coupling, the resultant lattice period was λ/2N, an N-fold reduction as compared to the conventional λ/2 lattice period. We experimentally demonstrated this lattice built from the three F = 1 Zeeman states of a 87Rb Bose-Einstein condensate, and generated a lattice with a λ/6 = 132 nm period from λ = 790 nm lasers. Lastly, we show that adding an additional rf-coupling field converts this lattice into a superlattice with N wells uniformly spaced within the original λ/2 unit cell.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the distribution and related factors of birth weight of live births and full-term infants in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. Methods: Based on Guangxi women and children information system from 2016 to 2018, a large real-time database about maternal and live-birth information was established. It covered 1 712 midwifery institutions in Guangxi. A total of 2 394 240 cases of live births were collected and 2 243 129 cases of which were full-term infants. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of low birth weight. Results: The birth weight of 2 394 240 live births, (3 123.49±461.08) g, in Guangxi was approximately normal distribution with a peak distribution to the left. The incidence of low birth weight was 8.05%, and the incidence of macrosomia was 2.07%. The incidence of low birth weight was 10.92% for the puerpera with body mass index (BMI, kg/m(2)) <18.5, 16.82% for the puerpera with height <145 cm, 8.92% for the puerpera with age <20 years old, 7.67% for the puerpera with age ≥35 years old, and 54.65% for the puerpera with premature birth. The birth weight of 2 243 129 full-term infants, (3 176.01±400.78) g, was approximately normal distribution with a peak distribution to the right. RESUMO

Objective: Tracking the information on 1.69 million fetal cases across Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Guangxi) so as to study the occurrences of total and major birth defects in order to evaluate the ability on related prevention and control programs in Guangxi. Methods: Using the self-developed "Gui Women's System" to establish a database of 1.69 million fetal cases in Guangxi and to analyze the distribution of time, space and population, as well as the outcomes of pregnancy, using the big data. Results: During the 29 months of observation, the overall live birth rate was 99.25%, with stillbirth rate during pregnancy as 0.44%, stillbirth rate during birth as 0.02%, and the 0-6 days mortality rate as 0.14%. The total detection rate on birth defects was 197.63/10 000; the incidence rate was 103.04/10 000, the birth rate was 102.55/10 000. The overall discovery rate of major birth defects was 48.33/10 000, with the incidence rate as 783 000, the birth rate as 0.58/10 000. The discovery rates of major birth defects in 14 cities were between 35 and 68/10 000, and the birth rate dropped significantly to less than 1.00 in 10 000. Nationalities showed that the number of pregnant women with birth defects more than 50 000 would include Hui (9.68/10 000), Yao (9.57/10 000), and Jing (9.37/10 000). With the increasing age of gestation, number of birth defects, incidence of major birth defects also increased. Ninety-five percent of the major birth defects were found within <28 weeks and with the top 5 kinds of major birth defects as complicated congenital heart disease (9.11/10 000), alpha thalassemia (8.36/10 000), and 21-trisomy syndrome (7.85/10 000), beta thalassemia (5.32/10 000) and fetal edema syndrome (4.92/10 000). The top 5 major birth defects appeared as complicated congenital heart disease (9.11/10 000), alpha thalassemia (8.36/10 000), and 21-trisomy syndrome (7.85/10 000), beta thalassemia (5.32/10 000) and fetal edema syndrome (4.92/10 000). Conclusion: Programs leading to increase the rate on discovery of major birth defects were fundamental in effectively reducing the major birth defects.

RESUMO

We develop an effective field theory (EFT) to describe the few- and many-body propagation of one-dimensional Rydberg polaritons. We show that the photonic transmission through the Rydberg medium can be found by mapping the propagation problem to a nonequilibrium quench, where the role of time and space are reversed. We include effective range corrections in the EFT and show that they dominate the dynamics near scattering resonances in the presence of deep bound states. Finally, we show how the long-range nature of the Rydberg-Rydberg interactions induces strong effective N-body interactions between Rydberg polaritons. These results pave the way towards studying nonperturbative effects in quantum field theories using Rydberg polaritons.

RESUMO

Zinc-finger protein 331 (ZNF331), a Kruppel-associated box zinc-finger protein gene, was identified as a putative tumor suppressor in our previous study. However, the role of ZNF331 in tumorigenesis remains elusive. We aimed to clarify its epigenetic regulation and biological functions in gastric cancer. ZNF331 was silenced or downregulated in 71% (12/17) gastric cancer cell lines. A significant downregulation was also detected in paired gastric tumors compared with adjacent non-cancer tissues. In contrast, ZNF331 was readily expressed in various normal adult tissues. The downregulation of ZNF331 was closely linked to the promoter hypermethylation as evidenced by methylation-specific PCR, bisulfite genomic sequencing and reexpression by demethylation agent treatment. DNA sequencing showed no genetic mutation/deletion of ZNF331 in gastric cancer cell lines. Ectopic expression of ZNF331 in the silenced cancer cell lines MKN28 and HCT116 significantly reduced colony formation and cell viability, induced cell cycle arrests and repressed cell migration and invasive ability. Concordantly, knockdown of ZNF331 increased cell viability and colony formation ability of gastric cancer cell line MKN45. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry-based comparative proteomic approach were applied to analyze the molecular basis of the biological functions of ZNF331. In all, 10 downstream targets of ZNF331 were identified to be associated with regulation of cell growth and metastasis. The tumor-suppressive effect of ZNF331 is mediated at least by downregulation of genes involved in cell growth promotion (DSTN, EIF5A, GARS, DDX5, STAM, UQCRFS1 and SET) and migration/invasion (DSTN and ACTR3), and upregulation of genome-stability gene (SSBP1) and cellular senescence gene (PNPT1). A novel target of ZNF331 (DSTN) was functionally validated. Overexpression of DSTN in BGC-823 cells increased colony formation and migration ability. In conclusion, our results suggest that ZNF331 possesses important functions for the suppression of gastric carcinogenesis as a novel functional tumor-suppressor gene.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: H2S is a novel type of endogenous neural regulatory factor and gaseous mediator. Exogenous H2S can increase heroin-induced learning and memory damage in rat and alleviates heroin-induced rat hippocampus damage through antioxidant and anti-apoptosis effects. OBJECTIVE: Aim of this study was to identify whether hydrogen sulfide (H2S) protects heroin withdrawal rat is related with adenylate cyclase (AC)-cAMP-protein kinase A (PKA)-cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) signaling pathway in heroin-dependent rat's nucleus accumbens or not. METHODS: Male Spragne-Dawley rats were randomly divided into Saline + Saline group, Saline + sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) group, Saline + Heroin group, NaHS + Heroin group according to the principle of increasing heroin dosage day by day, with the establishment of heroin-naloxone-induced withdrawal symptoms determined at day 10. Then the levels of H2S and cAMP and AC and PKA activities were assayed, and the level of phosphorylated CREB (p-CREB), the levels of phosphorylated N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 1 subunit (p-NR1), phosphorylated N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 2a subunit (p-NR2A) and phosphorylated N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 2b subunit (p-NR2B) were assayed in nucleus accumbens. RESULTS: Exogenous H2S can alleviate heroin withdrawal symptoms by increasing the level of H2S level in nucleus accumbens. Exogenous H2S can decrease the high activities of AC, PKA and the high levels of cAMP, p-CREB caused by heroin. Furthermore, exogenous H2S can decrease the high level of p-NR1 and can increase the low levels of p-NR2A and p-NR2B caused by heroin. It is surprising that exogenous H2S treatment alone was able to raise the activities of AC and PKA as well as the levels of cAMP, p-CREB, p-NR1, p-NR2A and p-NR2B. CONCLUSIONS: Exogenous H2S decreases naloxone-precipitated withdrawal signs, maybe through decreasing AC/cAMP/PKA/CREB/NMDR signaling pathway in heroin-dependent rats' nucleus accumbens.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Aim of this study was to identify whether docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has a vital antidepressant by hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) or not. METHODS: Mice were divided into 2 groups: control group and DHA dietary group. DHA dietary group was treated with DHA dietary everyday for consecutive 50 days. The forced swimming test and tail suspension test were conducted. Hypothalamic and erythrocyte fatty acids and monoamine neurotransmitters levels in hypothalamus were assayed; corticosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone and corticotropin-releasing factor in serum, hypothalamus and pituitary were assayed, respectively. RESULTS: (1) In the forced swimming test, DHA dietary significantly decreased immobility time, whereas swimming time and climbing time were increased. In tail suspension test, DHA dietary significantly shortened immobility time. (2) DHA dietary increased the ration of n-3/n-6 (polyunsaturated fatty acids) and DHA level in hypothalamic and erythrocyte fatty acids; (3) DHA dietary significantly increased 5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and dopamine levels in hypothalamus; (4) DHA dietary significantly decreased serum corticosterone level by 20.23% and serum adrenocorticotropic hormone level by 25.13%; significantly increased serum corticotropin releasing factor level by 21.92%. Besides, DHA dietary decreased arginine vasopressin level by 20.11% in hypothalamus, by 23.76% in pituitary tissues, respectively; (5) DHA dietary decreased corticotropin-releasing factor levels by 30.83% in hypothalamus, by 29.75% in pituitary tissues, respectively. In hypothalamus, DHA dietary decreased significantly adrenocorticotropic hormone level by 19.14%, but insignificantly decreased adrenocorticotropic hormone level in pituitary. CONCLUSIONS: DHA shows an antidepressant property. Moreover, DHA has multiple effects on depression including the monoamine neurotransmitter systems, red blood cell membranes and HPA axis.

RESUMO

Open reduction combined with external compressive skeletal fixation was used to treat twenty-seven patients who had a separated fracture of the patella. Fixation was obtained by the use of two compressive clamps applied to stainless-steel pins that were inserted just proximal and distal to the proximal and distal poles of the patella. Range-of-motion exercises for the knee were begun at two weeks and the pins were removed at three to four weeks. All of the fractures healed. Twenty-four patients regained a range of motion that was equal to that of the opposite knee. There was no evidence of chronic osteomyelitis. Osteoarthritis was noted in one patient who refused excision of a portion of the patella.
