[Problem of tuberculosis in Kirgizstan]. / Poblema tuberkuleza v Kirgizskoi Respublike.

The socioeconomic factors have exerted a decisive impact on tuberculosis morbidity and mortality in the Kirghiz Republic. The National Tuberculosis Programme which defines the priorities of antituberculous measures adjusted to local conditions has been adopted up to 2000 to stabilize the endemia, by taking into account some recommendations.

Tuberculosis control in Kyrgyzstan--an opportunity.

Tuberculosis incidence and mortality rates are rising steeply, reflecting economic hardship and the deterioration of the health infrastructure. The human and technical resources needed to reverse this trend are on hand, but cannot be used effectively without an adequate financial input. The cost of controlling tuberculosis now is modest compared with the cost of allowing it to increase.
