RESUMO

The authors compared the Slovak and Czech part of the IVth nation-wide anthropological survey of children and youth from birth to the age of 18 years and evaluated the revealed differences in height, body weight, head and chest circumferences. The results confirm the assumed further approximation of growth values of the two child populations and the gradual equalization recorded in particular in the youngest age groups.

RESUMO

In 1986 and 1987 the authors investigated the incidence of diseases of the respiratory system in children in 13 areas with a contaminated atmosphere. The morbidity was compared with the incidence of diseases in children living in an area with a relatively clean living environment. In 1986 the group comprised 8,973 children, in 1987 9,409 children aged 7-14 years. The morbidity was recorded by health community paediatricians according to the International Classification of Diseases and evaluated by means of the annual incidence. The authors calculated also the mean period of illness of the airways. In 11 contaminated areas they found a significantly higher incidence of respiratory diseases (p less than 0.01) and higher mean duration of respiratory diseases, as compared with the control area.

RESUMO

Rats were given single oral doses of phosmet (LD50 or 3/4 LD50). Changes of hematological parameters were studied in several time intervals; the main interest was paid to disturbances in blood clotting. Both light and electron microscopy were used to evaluate histopathological changes in selected organs (liver, lungs, spleen, stomach). Marked changes could be observed in all blood clotting parameters studied, other findings were not standard. The pathological picture was dominated by endothelial damage to the blood vessels and findings of thrombocytic clots in microcirculation of all organs examined. Together with hemocoagulation changes, they could be considered as reflecting the compensated stage of diffuse intravascular coagulopathy. In addition, damaged alveolar endothelium and interstitial edema could be observed in the lungs together with hepatic steatosis, damaged proximal renal tubuli, release of cellular elements from the splenic pulp and decomposition of megakaryocytes as well as serious exfoliation of the superficial layers of the gastric mucosa. The pathohistological alterations coincided with changes in organ weights.
