RESUMO

The paper presents literature data on clinical manifestations, instrumental diagnosis and pathohistological changes in Lyme carditis. Three cases were analyzed. The emphasis is placed on the necessity of differential diagnosis with Lyme disease in all the cases of unclear myocarditis and cardiac arrhythmia, especially in the territories endemic for tick-borne diseases.

RESUMO

Expert computer systems proved their efficacy in medicine, being a useful tool of solving complicated diagnostic and therapeutic tasks. One of these is being developed in the field of gastroenterology by the therapists of the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute and mathematicians of the Mathematical and Mechanical Institute of the Ural Department of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The system operates in the language REXX and PASCAL using ES 1045 computer and is able to teach subinterns skills of gastroenterological examinations, to assess professional skills of the gastroenterologist, to consult the internist in complicated diagnostic situations.

RESUMO

Ten-minute-long resting electrocardiograms and functional tests (respiratory arrest, hyperventilation, orthostatic and exercise tests) under continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring were conducted in 239 young subjects between 10 and 35 years of age (153 skilled athletes, 62 apparently normal individuals and 24 young unskilled athletes). Arrthythmias were detected in 124 (51.9%) of those. Complex arrthythmias were particularly common in skilled athletes, as compared to normal subjects and young unskilled athletes (58.2, 45.2 and 29.2%, respectively). Cardiovascular abnormalities were found in 30.7% of skilled athletes and 9.7% of normal subjects. Electrocardiographic functional tests allow timely identification of athletes with cardiovascular abnormalities and the choice of correct therapeutic strategy in terms of stress exposure.

RESUMO

A hyperventilation test, rationed with respect to respiratory rate and duration, was performed in 140 athletes under electrocardiographic control. During the test, one athlete developed an episode of sino-auricular block, and four showed a temporary second-degree Wenkebach--Samoilov A--V block. In three of those, resting ECG demonstrated decelerated atrioventricular conductivity which was combined with signs of myocardial dystrophy in two cases and with periodically recorded coronary sinus rhythm in one. Two athletes were under long-term dispensary observation. When repeated tests were negative, the block developed in response to hyperventilation preceded by obsidan administration.

RESUMO

An enquiry into the possibility of obtaining an infrared image of superficial veins by using a TV infrascope demonstrated this method to be more sensitive by comparison with the IR-photography. The former procedure enables it to obtain a picture of the venous network superior by its informativeness to that obtained with the aid of IR-photography. This justifies recommending the procedure in question for the purpose of diagnosing conditions in which there appear changes in the superficial veins, in particular for diagnosing pregnancy, characterized by a progressive development of venous anastomoses in the region of the mammary glands.
