[The effect of interleukin-2 on interferon production by human lymphocytes and the importance of this test in autoimmune diseases]. / Izuchenie vliianiia interleikina-2 na produktsiiu interferona limfotsitami cheloveka i znachenie etogo testa pri autoimmunnykh zabolevaniiakh.

Interleukin-2 (IL-2) was demonstrated to induce interferon (IFN) production in the cultured lymphocytes from healthy donors and myasthenia gravis (MG) patients. Moreover, IL-2 enhanced lymphocytic IFN production in patients and healthy individuals in response to phytohemagglutinin and concanavalin A. However, in MG patients, IFN production in response to IL-2 alone or in combination with mitogens is several times lower than that in healthy donors. This lowered IFN production in MG patients is accompanied by much higher rates of lymphocytic proliferation and by considerably enhanced spontaneous lymphocytic production of C-reactive protein as compared with healthy individuals. This test may be of great value in establishing the diagnosis of an autoimmune disease, in defining its severity and in evaluating the efficiency of therapy.

The study proved occupational and everyday strain of muscles and ligaments to be risk factor for ischemic and compression neuropathy. The pathologic changes appeared to involve not only compression points, but also the sites distant from the primary area and ultimately the whole axon. Therefore, spinal roots and nerves could be affected by complicated and multiple ischemic and compression radiculopathies demonstrating typical clinical signs.

[The use of combined methods of magnetoelectrotherapy in treating polyneuropathies]. / Primenenie sochetannykh metodov magnitoélektroterapii v lechenii polinevropatii.

A comparative evaluation by such parameters as alleviation of pain syndrome, improvement of peripheral resistance and vegetotrophic processes, a decline in pareses and sensory disorders has been performed in 3 groups of patients: group 1 underwent benzohexonium electrophoresis, group 2 benzohexonium electrophoresis in the magnetic field produced by the unit "Polyus-I" followed by low-frequency electrotherapy with bipolar impulse current, group 3 benzohexonium electrophoresis in the magnetic field from the unit "ADMT-Magnipuls" followed by low-frequency electrotherapy with bipolar impulse current. The best clinical and physiological results were reported in group 3 patients.

[The differentiation of the pathogenetic variants of nerve trunk lesions]. / Differentsiatsiia patogeneticheskikh variantov porazhenii nervnykh stvolov.

There are two major variants of nerve trunk disease progression: demyelinating and axonal-axial. The authors have developed a significant and rapid diagnostic procedure to differentiate the type of nerve trunk affection based on simultaneous assessment of two parameters (immunological and electroneuromyographic) carrying out correlations between them. The immunological investigation included measurement of the serum autoantibodies to galactocerebrosides titer.

[Asthenic-autonomic disorders in the decompensation phase of residual organic brain conditions]. / Astenovegetativnye rasstroistva v faze dekompensatsii rezidual'nykh organicheskikh sostoianii golovnogo mozga.

The paper provides characteristics of asthenic and vegetative-vascular defects in decompensation of residual organic cerebral insufficiency. The defects were examined vegetologically with the help of photoplethysmography, thermovisiography, the test of the vegetative, psychological, exercise performance. Cutaneous-galvanic reflex, attention, memory, asthenia severity were also evaluated. The data obtained by the authors are important for making differential diagnosis of cerebrogenic with psychogenic asthenia in neurosis which allows differential therapy of asthenia symptoms depending on the etiological factor.

[The use of bemitil in patients with progressive muscular dystrophies]. / Primenenie bemitila u bol'nykh progressiruiushchimi myshechnymi distrofiiami.

Bemithyl treatment was carried out in 22 patients with neuromuscular diseases (progressive myodystrophy). The actoprotector bemithyl inhibited in these patients the processes of lipid peroxidation, activation of neoglucogenesis favours improvement of interorganic exchange of metabolites. Bemithyl is recommended in patients with progressive myodystrophy along with drugs normalizing the protein, energy and electrolyte metabolism.

[Autonomic vascular disorders in neuropathies and the methods for their pathogenetic therapy]. / Vegetativno-sosudistye rasstroistva pri nevropatiiakh i metody patogeneticheskoi terapii.

Investigations were made to examine vegetovascular disorders in patients with inherited and acquired neuropathies (regional vegetative innervation, peripheral circulation and the thermal status of the limbs). Comprehensive, pathogenetically based treatment methods were developed. Using clinico-neurological, thermography, rheovasography and electrothermography research methods the following alterations were revealed in the autonomic areas of innervation of affected nerves: the signs of vegetovascular irritation; the signs of vegetovascular depression; a phenomenon of thermovision "amputation". Bearing in mind the diagnostic data, the patients were given differentiated pathogenetic therapy including physiotherapy and vegetotropic drugs.

[The physiotherapy of patients with lumbar spinal osteochondrosis in the early period after surgical treatment]. / Fizioterapiia bol'nykh poiasnichnym osteokhondrozom pozvonochnika v rannie sroki posle khirurgicheskogo lecheniia.

Altogether 130 patients with associated lumbar spinal osteochondrosis and the radicular syndrome were placed under observation after operation in the form of laminectomy and removal of hernia of intervertebral discs. On days 2-3 after the operation the patients were given different physiotherapy modalities: sinusoidal modulated currents (SMC), electroacupuncture by sinusoidal modulated currents (EAP) and acupuncture (AP). The control group patients were administered conventional drug therapy. According to the data on the disease clinical picture and the rate of impulse conduction in the motor nerve, the treatment efficacy was higher in patients on physiotherapy as compared to the controls. In patients with the predominance of the painful syndrome, EAP and AP were most effective; EAP was most effective in associated pains and motor losses; SMC appeared effective in isolated motor disorders. The drugs slightly reduced the pains but did not recover motor function.

[Laser correlation spectroscopy of the blood serum in assessing the efficacy of hemosorption with myasthenia patients]. / Lazernaia korreliatsionnaia spektroskopiia syvorotki krovi v otsenke éffektivnosti gemosorbtsii u bol'nykh miasteniei.

In 30 patients with myasthenia the authors studied the dynamic of changes of subfraction content of the blood serum using the method of laser correlation spectroscopy. Significant changes of the blood serum homeostasis have been revealed in the process of hemosorption. The obtained results make it possible to develop objective criteria for indications to hemosorption as well as for the assessment of the efficacy of therapy.

[Clinico-immunological research on patients with different forms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis]. / Kliniko-immunologicheskie issledovaniia bol'nykh s raznymi formami bokovogo amiotroficheskogo skleroza.

Changes in the immunological status of patients with lateral amyotrophic sclerosis (LAS) point to the involvement of the autoimmune component into the disease pathogenesis. At the same time there is a correlation between the intensity of immunological disorders and the age, disease pattern and the rate of the pathological process generalization. The lowering of immunological functions is noted to decline with age, possibly leading to the rise of the LAS incidence in older persons.

[Pathogenetic therapy of trigeminal neuralgia]. / K patogeneticheskoi terapii nevralgii troinichnogo nerva.

The authors describe a clinical case of severe neuralgia of the third branch of the trigeminal nerve, in whose etiology and pathogenesis a role was played by allergic vasomotor rhinosinusopathy, general allergization of the body, and recurrent herpetic infection. The patient was treated by carbamazepine, tranquilizers, prednisolone, antihistamine and diuretic agents, calcium drugs, bonaphthon, vitamin B1, essentiale, acupuncture, local hydrocortisone phonophoresis and laser therapy. Such treatment made it possible to effectively remove the neuralgic painful syndrome. The given case demonstrates that the painful syndrome is due to several pathological systems having different pathophysiological and neurochemical organization, demanding a differentiated individual approach and providing evidence for the necessity of carrying out the etiological and pathogenetic therapy.

[Mechanisms of the therapeutic effect of bemitil in neuromuscular diseases]. / K mekhanizmam terapevticheskogo deistviia bemitila pri nervno-myshechnykh zabolevaniiakh.

Studies into the mechanism of the therapeutic action of bemitil were carried out in 21 patients with neuromuscular diseases. Measurements of lipid peroxidation and permeability of the erythrocytic membranes demonstrated the drug to influence carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, lipid peroxidation, and permeability of the cellular membranes. It is recommended that bemitil be used for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases.

[Status of the carpal canal in compressive neuropathy of the median nerve (computerized-tomographic examination)]. / Sostoianie zapiastnogo kanala pri kompressionnoi nevropatii sredinnogo nerva (komp'iuterno-tomograficheskoe issledovanie).

Computer-aided tomography of the carpal canal was performed in 30 patients syndromes of the carpal canal and in 20 healthy persons. Topographoanatomic interrelations of carpal canal structures were specified, degenerative and dystrophic alterations of the carpal bones, proliferation of the connective tissue, displacement of carpal structures and of the median nerve itself were revealed.

[The characteristics of the oxygen-transport function of hemoglobin in myasthenia patients]. / Osobennosti kislorodtransportnoi funktsii gemoglobina u bol'nykh miasteniei.

A study is presented of the oxygen-transport function of hemoglobin in 50 patients suffering of myasthenia. Age of the patients: from 18 to 70 years. The patients showed increased level of the erythrocytic 2,3-DPG which is a sensitive index of the state of tissue oxygenation and changes of the kinetics of oxygen by hemoglobin. The obtained results permit to evaluate the mechanisms of development of respiratory insufficiency in patients with myasthenia, favours adequate assessment of the severity grades of the disease, help to plan pathogenetic treatment.
