RESUMO

Acute frontal sinusitis was treated by therapeutic complex incorporating drainage of the frontal sinus, its lavage with antiseptic solution, mechanical low-frequency biovibromassage. The dynamics of the inflammation resolution in the frontal sinus reflected positive clinicoroentgenological changes, normalization of lipid peroxidation products in the blood and activity of the studied enzymes.

RESUMO

A trial has been made of traditional versus antioxidant treatment of acute maxillary sinusitides. The patients were injected a mixture consisting of 4 ml emulsion of 10% dibunol liniment and 2 ml of 5% ascorbic acid made by dilution of 10 g dibunol in 30 ml sterile 0.5% novocaine solution. The mixture was introduced into the sinuses 2 times a day, in one of the study groups it was combined with 500,000 U of ampicillin in cases of purulent sinusitis. In catarrhal form the mixture was injected once a day without the antibiotic. Control groups received 4 ml dioxidine in a single dose after the sinus lavage in catarrhal sinusitis and 500,000 U ampicillin plus hydrocortisone emulsion (1 ml in 4 ml solution) 2 times a day in case of purulent sinusitis. All the patients received aevit (one capsule daily). The mean number of manipulations for the study groups were 4.4 +/- 0.4 in catarrhal sinuses and 6.3 +/- 0.5 in purulent sinusitis; in control groups, respectively, 5.9 +/- 0.5 and 10.7 +/- 0.7. Mean duration of treatment reached 5.3 +/- 0.4, 6.2 +/- 0.3 and 7.1 +/- 0.1 in the study groups and 8.5 +/- 0.2, 10.2 +/- 0.4 days in the control groups. Positive response to the treatment with antioxidants was confirmed by positive changes in blood levels of LPO products, activity of lysosomal hydrolases and antioxidant defense enzymes. The results obtained justify the inclusion of antioxidants in the schemes of acute sinusitis treatment.

RESUMO

Experimental sinusitis in rabbits was induced by a chemical burn of the mucous membrane. Local application of dibunol decreased the intensity of the purulent inflammation in the sinuses and that of perifocal serous inflammation. Serous inflammation of the contralateral sinus was practically absent. The amount of the lipid peroxidation products in the circulating blood in rabbits receiving dibunol was close to the control and statistically lower than in animals not treated with dibunol. The activity of local acid phosphatase, glucuronidase, marker lysosomal hydrolases and that of myeloperoxidase was lower in animals treated with dibunol, particularly at the pick of inflammation, this was probably due to the dibunol stabilizing effect on the cell membranes.

RESUMO

Dynamics in content of serotonin and pyridoxal in blood as well as effect of loading with essential and branch-chained amino acids on these substances were studied in rats with experimental inflammation of skin and hypodermic tissues within various periods of the disease. The exogenous amino acids administered were found to affect particularly the dynamics of serotonin and pyridoxal content in the rat blood independently on their mixtures used. Concentration of serotonin in blood correlated inversely with pyridoxal content within the all periods of the experiment.

RESUMO

Activity of kallikrein and content of prekallikrein were studied in blood serum of patients with gastroduodenal ulcer accompanied (or not accompanied) by hemorrhage. The rate of the kallikrein-kinin system activation was higher under conditions of the disease complicated by hemorrhage. Extracts of bioptic samples obtained from ulcerous zones as well as the extracts of leukocytes were shown to activate prekallikrein and Hageman factor in human blood plasma. At the same time, the activating effect of these extracts was distinctly lowered in the ulcer accompanied by hemorrhage. The phenomenon observed might occur due to high intensity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes degranulation during hemorrhage in the ulcer area.

RESUMO

Activities of acid and alkaline phosphatases, cathepsin B, leucine aminopeptidase, N-acetyl-beta-D-hexosaminidases, beta-D-galactosidase and beta-D-glucuronidase were studied in leukocytes of two groups of patients with normal and pathological healing of wounds after surgical treatment of scar stenosis of larynx. Analysis of the enzymatic activity, calculated by means of Student's test using the data of a single estimation of the activity in leukocytes before surgical treatment, did not exhibit any distinct differences in these two groups of patients. The study of interrelationship between the activities of individual enzymes by means of principles of regression analysis enabled to show that the enzymes studied were in the positive regressive relation. Pattern of enzymatic activity in leukocytes of patients with pathological wound healing was distinctly different from that of patients with normal healing in the shape of regression and, especially, in relaxation of the interrelations between phosphatases and other enzymes. The principle of regression enabled to evaluate the prognosis of postoperative development of wound healing using the preliminary estimation of enzymatic activity in leukocytes of patients with scar stenosis of larynx.

RESUMO

Inflammation of rat hypodermic tissue was accompanied by an increase in activity of lysosomal glycosidases beta-D-galactosidase and beta-D-glucuronidase in the proliferating tissue and in some other preparations studied. Activation of lactate dehydrogenase/LDH/in exudate of inflamed tissues indicated apparently that the rate of redox reactions was elevated under conditions of the tissue proliferation. Decrease of creatine phosphokinase activity in blood plasma of experimental animals, which occurred simultaneously with the LDH activation, enabled to suggest the presence of compensatory mechanisms responsible for energy providing of the tissue proliferation.

RESUMO

Activity of lysosomal hydrolases, cathepsins A and D, acid phosphatase, was induced in inflamed rat hypodermic tissue. Simultaneously, cytoplasmic enzymes leucine amino-peptidase and alkaline phosphatase were activated in the tissue. At the same time, activity of thiol-dependent enzymes/cathepsins B and C/ was decreased in all preparations studied. The data obtained suggest that both lysosomal and membrane-bound hydrolases participated in development of inflammation. Besides, proliferation of the hypodermic tissue appears to effect, by means of mediator and metabolite systems, on activity of intracellular enzymes in other tissues studied, which were not related directly to the impairment.

RESUMO

Physico-chemical parameters of subtilisins from the original Bacillus subtilis A-50 strain (proteolytic activity, electrophoretic mobility, molecular weight, reactions with specific inhibitors) were similar to those mentioned in the literature for the enzymes of other strains. Immunological experiment has shown, that Bacillus subtilis A-50 subtilisins with various electrophoretic mobility do not differ in their antigenic properties. Enzymes with high electrophoretic mobility from mutant strains were similar to I--III subtilisin fractions from Bac. subtilis A-50 in the antigenic characteristics. However, the antigenic heterogeneity was observed in I, II and III enzyme fractions of some mutant strains. Subtilisins studied appear to form the isoenzyme system.
