RESUMO

The influence of ethylendiamine salt of alpha-lipoic acid on the indices of iron metabolism in patients with occupational pathologies has been studied using quantitative electron spin resonance spectroscopy. In the cases of treatment in the patients suffering from hyperferremia the decrease in transferrin iron concentration in the whole blood and plasma occurs correlating with the enhancement of iron excretion from urine and decline of bilirubin level in serum. We have found that the preparation chelates iron from iron (III)-citrate complex and form stable iron (III) complexes. The conclusion is that the positive effects of lipoic acid preparation in the patients with hyperferremia at least partially could be associated with normalization of iron exchange and reduction in the labile iron pool.

RESUMO

Medication Berlition 300 oral, produced by "Berlin-Hemie", induces lower serum iron content, decrease in transferrin content of whole blood and serum proportionally to increased urinary iron excretion and lower serum bilirubin and normalizes serum glucose level. Berlition 300 oral, lipoic acid preparation made by "Berlin-He mie" (Menarini group), could be recommended for treatment of high serum iron content and iron overload, especially in association with diabetes mellitus.

RESUMO

A study was made of relationship between biologic age of welders and their health status. The results obtained suggest that evolution of occupational abnormalities of bronchipulmonary system may accelerate the welders' rate of aging two-fold. Accumulation of iron in the organism of welders furthers the process of ageing as well. A high specific weight of patients with critically low level of the blood serum content of cholesterol (3.34 mmol/l) was found to be the case among welders with occupational abnormalities of bronchipulmonary system, which fact suggests a high risk for the pulmonary cancer development.

RESUMO

The paper presents results of evaluation of carcinogenic risk in welders with due emphasis to sensibilization to organ-specific tumorous antigen of the lung determined by a test for electrophoretic mobility of indicator cells. Relationship was found between frequency and markedness of sensibilization and blood serum content of iron. It is suggested that carcinogenic risk in the occupation of the welder might be associated with both exposure to chromium, nickel, asbestos endowed with blastomogenic properties, and an increase accumulation of iron in the organism.

RESUMO

It was established that during cast-iron welding unfavourable factors of this production are welding aerosols, thermal and physical loads, radiation of the optical range. Results of detailed medical screening evidence that 80% of cast-iron welders showed pathology of the internal organs. Diseases of the bronchopulmonary apparatus occupy the leading place and are registered in every second cast-iron welder. The incidence rises with increased length of work and age.

RESUMO

Welding of steel and cast iron leads to overaccumulation of iron in the welder's organism, which manifests itself in the iron content growth in the whole blood and serum, an increase of serum general iron binding ability, calcium homeostasis disorders, decrease of cardiac muscle contraction, progressing pneumoconiosis with concomitant characteristic pneumohemosiderosis features. The secondary preventive measures of the occupational pathology should include a set of drugs and preparations to improve the iron content in the organism and related metabolic disorders.

RESUMO

Combined action of carbon oxide and iron, when inhaled as welding aerosol components, did not exhibit an adequate HbCO formation in the blood as a result of the protecting action of serous iron which reached the content level leading to the overload of the organism with iron.
