RESUMO

Duct-dependent congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are a serious form of CHD with a low detection rate, especially in underdeveloped countries and areas. Although existing studies have developed models for fetal heart structure identification, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluation of the long axis of the aorta. In this study, a total of 6698 images and 48 videos are collected to develop and test a two-stage deep transfer learning model named DDCHD-DenseNet for screening critical duct-dependent CHDs. The model achieves a sensitivity of 0.973, 0.843, 0.769, and 0.759, and a specificity of 0.985, 0.967, 0.956, and 0.759, respectively, on the four multicenter test sets. It is expected to be employed as a potential automatic screening tool for hierarchical care and computer-aided diagnosis. Our two-stage strategy effectively improves the robustness of the model and can be extended to screen for other fetal heart development defects.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Lateral epicondylitis is a common musculoskeletal disorder, and ultrasound therapy is one of the most used treatments in the clinic. The effect remains uncertain, and the present paper aims to figure it out with a meta-analysis. METHODS: The Pubmed, Cochrane library, and Embase databases were searched for relevant studies published before Jure 1, 2021. Continuous variables were compared by calculating the standard difference of the means, whereas categorical dichotomous variables were assessed using relative risks. A random-effects model was used if the heterogeneity statistic was significant; otherwise, a fixed-effects model was used. RESULTS: Thirteen studies were included in the quantitative analysis, including 442 participants (287 ultrasonic treated patients and 155 controls). The VAS scale decreased markedly after ultrasound therapy (P = .027). However, no statistically significant difference could be found between ultrasound therapy and the control groups at all post-treatment time points. Similarly, no benefits could be found when comparing the pre- and post-treatment grip strength with ultrasonic therapy (P = .324). Moreover, though ultrasound treatment always continues for a long time, the present study demonstrated there were no additional benefits when comparing short- and long-term outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: The ultrasound therapy is helpful to relieve pain for LE patients, but no such benefit could be found for grip strength. However, it has no significant advantage against other conservative treatments like rest and brace.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The study is performed to explore the correlations of forkhead box O3 (FoxO3) and forkhead box O4 (FoxO4) expressions with clinicopathological features and prognosis of bladder cancer. METHODS: Bladder cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues from the recruited 222 patients were collected. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), Western blotting and immunohistochemistry were applied to determine the expressions of FoxO3 and FoxO4. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine the correlation between the expressions of FoxO3 and FoxO4. All patients were followed up and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were recorded. Kaplan-Meier survival curve was drawn to determine the associations of FoxO3 and FoxO4 expressions and postoperative survival. Cox proportional hazards model was conducted to analyze the risk factors for poor prognosis of bladder cancer. RESULTS: The mRNA and expressions of FoxO3 and FoxO4 proteins in the bladder cancer tissues were lower than that in the adjacent normal tissues (both P<0.05). The positive rates of FoxO3 and FoxO4 were lower in the patients with lymph node metastasis than that in the patients without lymph node metastasis (P<0.05), and significantly lower in the patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (Tis-T1) than in those with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (T2-T3) in TNM staging, and remarkably lower in the patients with high grade than in those with low grade in the histological type (P<0.05). Furthermore, the expressions of FoxO3 and FoxO4 were positively correlated in the bladder cancer tissues (P<0.05). Negative expressions of FoxO3 and FoxO4 and lymph node metastasis were the risk factors for the poor prognosis of bladder cancer. CONCLUSIONS: The FoxO3 and FoxO4 expressions may potentially associate with the clinicopathological features and prognosis of bladder cancer.
