RESUMO

The photonic spin-orbit (SO) coupling is a widely investigated effect in optical microcavities leading to various interesting physical phenomena and potential applications. We report the full sets of eigenenergies and eigenstates in a symmetrically confined potential under the effect of SO coupling induced by the transverse-electric transverse-magnetic (TE-TM) splitting, which are derived analytically via the degenerate perturbation theory. We obtained the eigenenergies and the eigenstates from the 1st to the 6th orders of excited manifold, and demonstrate unambiguously that universal rules governing the mode formation exist in such complicated photonic systems, making the modes exhibiting the features of solid and hollow skyrmions as well as spin vortices. We show that these eigenstates can be described by the SO coupled hyperspheres that can be decomposed into a series of higher-order Poincare spheres. Our results significantly extend the area of microcavity spin-optronics to the general theory of eigenvalues in confined systems, and provide an efficient theoretical frame for the information processing using microcavity-based high-dimensional vector states.

RESUMO

The emergent optical activity (OA) caused by anisotropic light emitter in microcavities is an important physical mechanism discovered recently, which leads to Rashba-Dresselhaus photonic spin-orbit (SO) coupling. In this study, we report a sharp contrast of the roles of the emergent OA in free and confined cavity photons, by observing the optical chirality in a planar-planar microcavity and its elimination in a concave-planar microcavity, evidenced by polarization-resolved white-light spectroscopy, which agrees well with the theoretical predictions based on the degenerate perturbation theory. Moreover, we theoretically predict that a slight phase gradient in real space can partially restore the effect of the emergent OA in confined cavity photons. The results are significant additions to the field of cavity spinoptronics and provide a novel method for manipulating photonic SO coupling in confined optical systems.

RESUMO

Asymmetric microcavities supporting Whispering-gallery modes (WGMs) are of great significance for on-chip optical information processing. We establish asymmetric microcavities on topologically curved surfaces, where the geodesic light trajectories completely reconstruct the cavity mode features. The curvature-mediated photon-lifetime engineering enables the enhancement of the quality factors of periodic island modes by up to 200 times. Strong and weak coupling between modes of very different origins occurs when the space curvature brings them into resonance, leading to fine tailoring of the cavity photon energy and lifetime and the observation of non-Hermitian exceptional point (EP). At large space curvatures, the role of the WGMs is replaced by high-Q periodic modes protected by the high stability of island-like light trajectory. Our work demonstrates interesting physical mechanisms at the crosspoint of optical chaotic dynamics, non-Hermitian physics, and geodesic optical devices, and would initiate the novel area of geodesic microcavity photonics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bronchiolar adenoma (BA) is a recently proposed diagnostic terminology, which is considered as the expansion of the concept of ciliated muconodular papillary tumors. BA is considered to be a benign neoplasm, but a few previous cases have been reported with the possibility of malignant transformation. Therefore, the genetic and histological nature of BA is controversial so far. We describe a rare case of multiple BAs with malignant transformation and CCNE1 (cyclin E1) mutation to increase the understanding of this disease. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 56-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to two ground-glass nodules (GGNs) in the left lung detected by chest CT without symptom. The pure GGN located in the upper lingual segment about 6 mm in diameter and another mixed GGN located in the dorsal segment about 7 mm. The two GGNs have been found a year ago without treatment, and the mixed GGN become larger to 8 mm with vacuole sign in the next year health checkup. We performed a wedge resection of the two nodules completely by video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS). Postoperative pathology indicated that the pure GGN was atypical bronchial adenoma, while the mixed GGN was atypical bronchial adenoma with malignant transformation which was missed in frozen section. Gene mutations analysis by next-generation sequencing (NGS) showed CCNE1 gene mutation in both lesions, and her-2 mutation was identified in the mixed GGN. The programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression analysis of tumor cells showed 0% and less than 1% in the pure GGN and the mixed GGN, respectively. CONCLUSION: BA is generally considered to be a benign tumor. The present study indicated that BA may be carcinogenic in atypical cases with some driver genes mutation and we should be vigilant for its potentiality of malignant transformation in clinical practice.

RESUMO

We study the phase-dependent thermal transport of a short temperature-biased Josephson junction based on two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) with both Rashba and Dresselhaus couplings. Except for thermal equilibrium temperature T, characters of thermal transport can also be manipulated by interaction parameter h0 and the parameter [Formula: see text] . A larger value and a sharper switching behavior of thermal conductance can be obtained if h0 takes suitable values and [Formula: see text] is larger. Finally, we propose a possible experimental setup based on the discussed Josephson junction and find that the temperature of the right superconducting electrode TR is influenced by the same three parameters in a similar way with thermal conductance. This setup may provide a valid method to select moderately-doped 2DEG materials and superconducting electrodes to control the change of temperature and obtain an efficient temperature regulator.

RESUMO

Chitosan and its derivatives can be used to modify magnetic materials to promote the adsorption properties of the magnetic materials and avoid the weakness of chitosan and its derivatives. In the present study, chitosan grafted poly(trimethyl allyl ammonium chloride) (CTS-g-PTMAAC) was prepared by graft copolymerization; then it was coated on the surfaces of the sodium citrate coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (SC-Fe3O4) to prepare a novel composite CTS-g-PTMAAC/SC-Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles, with which possesses abundant surface positive charges. The structure and properties of the CTS-g-PTMAAC/SC-Fe3O4 composite magnetic nanoparticles were characterized by FTIR, TEM, VSM, and zeta potential. The dye adsorption characteristics of the CTS-g-PTMAAC/SC-Fe3O4 nanoparticles were determined using the food yellow 3 aqueous solutions as a model food effluent. Effect of pH of the dye solution on the adsorption of food yellow 3 was determined and compared with N-2-hydroxylpropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan coated sodium citrate-Fe3O4 (CTS-g-HTCC/SC-Fe3O4) composite magnetic nanoparticles. The adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms, adsorption thermodynamics, and desorption and reusability of the magnetic nanoparticles were investigated.
