RESUMO

On the great number of observations the authors demonstrate, that children of different birth number have different biological qualities. For the Carpathian population the optimal sanological number is the fourth. The fourth children have the greatest vitality. The firstly born children are, usually, the most weak and have the least vitality. The difference in the sick and mortality rate of the first and the fourth children is so great, that the change of the weight of children with optimal birth number in the population may change the sick structure and the susceptibility to a disease. The processes, connected with the population's reproduction fecundity and the birth number play a great part in the health formation of different populations. Human health is a derivative of a gene pool of a certain population and a function of its social development at the same time from the ecological point of view. The law of the quantitative and qualitative sides of population's development is the basis of socio-ecological health concept.

RESUMO

The paper describes the results of studying cognitive activity in 174 school children with mild forms of intellectual insufficiency. On the basis of a psychopathological analysis 4 main types of intellectual insufficiency were distinguished: mildly expressed personality and cognitive activity retardation; borderline forms of intellectual insufficiency; intellectual insufficiency due to functional disorders of brain activity (mental retardation) and familial-pedagogical neglect.

RESUMO

The clinical efficacy of piriditol treatment in children with intellectual insufficiency was studied by means of special techniques, determining the velocity of visual information processing (VVIP) and short-time visual memory (SVM), which reflects the functional state of the brain. Piriditol was administered to 50 children aged from 7 to 12 years. The clinical state was characterized as mental retardation, due to mild organic brain lesions or oligophrenia in the form of mild debility. The use of special techniques (VVIP and SVM) for the study of intellectual activity permitted to analyze more differentially the stimulating and sedative effect of piriditol, to detect the new property of the drug, i.e. to remove the processes of fatigue in the brain tissues. A positive effect of the treatment was most marked in children with mental retardation rather than in oligophrenic patients.

RESUMO

Memory, attention and emotional reactivity in comparison to indices of catecholamine and serotonin metabolism were studied in 25 children from 7 to 10 years with the minimal psychoorganic syndrome during aminalon treatment. According to the excretion indices the activity equilibrium of catecholamines and serotonin were changed and were accompanied by disturbances of memory, attention and emotional reactivity. An improvement of these indices during treatment corresponded to a normalization of the activity in these systems. Questions concerning the signficance of disturbed metabolism of biogenic amines in the pathogenesis of the psychoorganic syndrome are discussed.
