RESUMO

Objective: To examine the association of greenness exposure with waist circumference (WC) and central obesity in older adults in China. Methods: Based on the cross-sectional data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey in 2017-2018, 14 056 participants aged 65 years and over were included. Demographic characteristics, lifestyle, WC, and other information were collected through a questionnaire and physical examination. Based on the satellite monitoring data of moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) provided by NASA, the annual mean of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) within a radius of 1 000 meters was obtained as the measurement value of greenness exposure. Multivariate linear regression model, multivariate logistic regression model, and restricted cubic splines (RCS) model were used to analyze the association and dose-response relationship between greenness exposure and WC and central obesity in older adults in China. Results: A total of 14 056 participants were enrolled with a median age of 84.0 years [IQR: 75.0-94.0 years]. About 45.0% (6 330) of them were male and 48.6% (5 853) were illiterate. There were 10 964 (78.0%) participants from rural. The mean of WC was (84.4±10.8) cm. Central obesity accounted for 60.2% (8 465), and the NDVI range was (-0.06, 0.78). After adjusting for confounding factors, the multivariate linear regression model showed that the change value of WC in the urban group [ß (95%CI):-0.49 (-0.93, -0.06)] was smaller than that in the rural [-0.78 (-0.98, -0.58)] for every 0.1 unit increase in NDVI (Pinteraction=0.022). Compared with the Q1 group in NDVI, WC of Q2 and Q3 groups in rural decreased, and the ß (95%CI) values were-1.74 (-2.5, -0.98) and-2.78 (-3.55, -2.00), respectively. The multivariate logistic regression model showed that after adjusting for confounding factors, the risk of central obesity decreased for urban and rural older adults with an increase of 0.1 unit in NDVI, and the OR (95%CI) values were 0.87 (0.80, 0.95) and 0.86 (0.82, 0.89), respectively (Pinteraction=0.284). Compared with the Q1 group in NDVI, the risk of central obesity in the Q2 and Q3 groups in rural was lower, and the OR (95%CI) values were 0.68 (0.58, 0.80) and 0.57 (0.49, 0.68), respectively. The results of the multivariate regression model with RCS showed that there was a non-linear association of NDVI with WC (Pnonlinear=0.006) and central obesity (Pnonlinear=0.025). Conclusion: Greenness exposure is negatively associated with WC and central obesity in older adults in China.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE:   The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical value of low-dose spiral CT (LDCT), plasma miR-200b, and miR-200c combined screening for lung cancer screening in the physical examination population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From January 2016 to December 2018, the Physical Examination Center of our hospital underwent low-dose spiral CT lung cancer screening for 10,823 people aged ≥40 years. The quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the relative expressions of miR-200b and miR-200c in plasma, analyze the imaging characteristics of suspicious nodules in the lung and the relative expressions of miR-200b and miR-200c in plasma. RESULTS: A total of 2,919 pulmonary nodules were detected in the 10823 physical examination population, with a total detection rate of 26.97%, including 1523 males and 1396 females. 1081 positive nodules were detected with a detection rate of 9.99%. According to the Lung-RADS classification, the number of type 2 nodules was the highest, with a detection rate of 22.13%. Meanwhile, the rate of type 3 nodules was 3.15%, and the rate of type 4 nodules was 1.69%. The sensitivity, accuracy, and negative predictive value of LDCT, miR-200b, and miR-200c in the diagnosis of lung cancer were significantly improved compared with the individual tests, which were 94.74%, 90.16%, and 95.88%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Low-dose spiral CT combined with plasma miR-200b and miR-200c for lung cancer screening in the physical examination population can help to detect lung cancer patients with early symptoms that are not significant, and achieve early diagnosis and early treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate metabolic parameters of primary lesions examined by 18F-FDG PET/CT (18Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography /Computed Tomography), including maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG). PATIENTS AND METHODS: 79 patients with endometrial cancer were selected as the subjects. They were diagnosed by histopathology in our hospital for the first time from January 2016 to December 2018. All the patients were examined by 18F-FDG PET/CT. Retrospective statistical analysis was carried out to evaluate different expression of metabolic parameters examined by 18F-FDG PET/CT of different clinicopathologic factors in endometrial cancer. Spearman correlation analysis was also used. RESULTS: SUVmax, TLG and MTV were correlated with FIGO staging, tissue grading, depth of myometrial invasion, and lymph node metastasis. SUVmax, TLG and MTV in lymph node metastasis group had high clinical staging, low differentiation and myometrial invasion depth >1/2, which were significantly higher than those in no lymph node metastasis group (low clinical staging, high differentiation and myometrial invasion depth ≤1/2). TLG had the greatest difference(p<0.001). TLG and MTV were correlated with histopathological classification (p<0.05). The expression levels of SUVmax, MTV and TLG of primary lesions were negatively correlated with the positive expression of ER and PR in tumor tissues (p<0.05), and significantly positively correlated with positive expression of HER -2 and Ki-67 (p<0.01). The expression of ER, PR, HER-2 and KI-67 in tumor tissues was correlated with tissue grading, clinical staging, depth of muscular layer infiltration, cervical tissue involvement and lymph node metastasis (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Metabolic parameters of primary lesions examined by 18F-FDG PET/CT has a good correlation with its clinicopathological features. They can provide reference for the preoperative formulation of treatment plan for endometrial cancer, so as to reduce the risk of surgery and improve the prognosis of patients.

RESUMO

Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have been used for various applications such as in the treatment of iron deficiency, as theranostic agents, and as drug carriers. The effective delivery of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles into the lesion and iron quantification are vital for in vivo theranostic application. To determine the feasibility of using T1 contrast to non-invasively quantify and monitor the IONPs in vivo, monodispersed Gd-doped iron oxide nanoparticles (GdIONPs) with 4 nm core size were fabricated and were used as T1-weighted contrast agents to quantify iron contents based on MRI longitudinal relaxation times (T1). Signal enhancement in positive T1 contrast caused by GdIONPs was observed in this work. The in vivo T1 relaxivity of GdIONPs in a tumor matched well with both in vitro T1 relaxivity and ICP-MS results, demonstrating that the concentration of iron at the tumor site can be directly read from real-time in vivo MRI T1 relaxivity. Hence, by using this strategy, the Fe content in the lesion can be accurately monitored based on MRI longitudinal relaxation times, and this may shed light on effective magnetic hyperthermia cancer therapy in future.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The association between cognitive function and cholesterol levels is poorly understood and inconsistent results exist among the elderly. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association of cholesterol level with cognitive performance among Chinese elderly. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was implemented in 2012 and data were analyzed using generalized additive models, linear regression models and logistic regression models. SETTING: Community-based setting in eight longevity areas in China. SUBJECTS: A total of 2000 elderly aged 65 years and over (mean 85.8±12.0 years) participated in this study. MEASUREMENTS: Total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentration were determined and cognitive impairment was defined as Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score ≤23. RESULTS: There was a significant positive linear association between TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C and MMSE score in linear regression models. Each 1 mmol/L increase in TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C corresponded to a decreased risk of cognitive impairment in logistic regression models. Compared with the lowest tertile, the highest tertile of TC, LDL-C and HDL-C had a lower risk of cognitive impairment. The adjusted odds ratios and 95% CI were 0.73(0.62-0.84) for TC, 0.81(0.70-0.94) for LDL-C and 0.81(0.70-0.94) for HDL-C. There was no gender difference in the protective effects of high TC and LDL-C levels on cognitive impairment. However, for high HDL-C levels the effect was only observed in women. High TC, LDL-C and HDL-C levels were associated with lower risk of cognitive impairment in the oldest old (aged 80 and older), but not in the younger elderly (aged 65 to 79 years). CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that cholesterol levels within the high normal range are associated with better cognitive performance in Chinese elderly, specifically in the oldest old. With further validation, low cholesterol may serve a clinical indicator of risk for cognitive impairment in the elderly.
