RESUMO

The efficiency of radiotherapy treatment for cancer patients and use of the state-of-the-art accelerator facilities, in the first place, depends on the qualification and number of medical physicists. The need for the training and continuing professional development (CPD) of medical radiation physicists in Russia and CIS countries has dramatically increased today. The article considers the system of refresher training which should provide the continuing professional development and advance training of medical radiation physicists. The authors analyze the experience of the International Educational Center of the Association of Medical Physicists in Russia involved in the CPD of medical physicists under the IAEA TC projects, RMAPO and N.N. Blokhin RCRC joint educational programs.

RESUMO

The authors examined the functional state of the respiratory apparatus in 343 patients with burns of the respiratory ways (BRW). The defensive, respiratory, conditioning and olfactory functions were investigated. It was established that lesions of the respiratory tract mucosa in BRW causes primarily severe disorders of the transport and secretory functions that further the development of bronchial obstruction and deteriorate pulmonary ventilation. Lesions of the respiratory tract mucosa in BRW are deep and should be equated with III AB grade burns. The course of he burn process in the respiratory ways plays a significant part in the pathogenesis of burn disease pneumonia. This should be considered in planning treatment of patients with BRW.

RESUMO

A rarely occuring systemic hemangioendotheliomatosis with the involvement of the skin, lymph nodes, spleen, liver, bone marrow, and lungs (intra- and extra-vascular endothelial proliferation) in a female patient of 53 years is described. Cytostatic therapy resulted in short-time improvement and was accompanied by disappearance and cicatrization of tumour nodes and marked lymphoplasmocytic reaction. The patient died with signs of cachexia, anemia and leukopenia because of concurrent complications.
