RESUMO

The parent version of the Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (SMFQ-P) is a brief 13-item tool for the screening of depression in children from the age of 6 years. Despite the wide use of the SMFQ-P, its psychometric properties and factor structure remain understudied, with few data available for young school-aged children. The objective of this study was to examine for the first time the factorial structure and psychometric properties of the SMFQ-P in a non-clinical sample of Spanish-speaking children aged 6-8 years. Participants were 181 children whose parents completed the Spanish-adapted version of the SMFQ-P along with the parent version of other measures of anxiety and general difficulties and positive attributes. The SMFQ-P demonstrated adequate internal consistency (α = .83) and test-retest reliability over an eight-week period (ICC = .80), and good convergent and divergent validity. Factor analysis confirmed the original 13-item model, thus supporting the unidimensionality of the measure in the Spanish sample. Overall, this study provides initial empirical evidence for the utility of the SMFQ-P with Spanish-speaking children from early school ages, and extends the international support of the measure.

The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship of social status in depressive symptoms in adolescents. The participants were 1,212 adolescents of 1st (53.9%) and 2nd (46.1%) of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) belonging to seven educational centers of the Region of Murcia (Spain). There was also a sample of 104 parents. In the analysis of adolescents' self-reports, statistically and clinically significant differences were found that indicate greater depressive symptomatology in low social status (no differences were found between high and medium social status). No statistically significant differences were found in the parents' self-reports. Given that social status could be a risk factor for depression in early adolescence, the importance of carrying out preventive interventions aimed at this sector of the population is highlighted, especially in a context marked by the consequences of the economic crisis

Pain is one of the most common symptoms and more disabling in childhood cancer. Some medical treatments and diagnostic procedures are very intrusive and children with cancer consider them even more painful than the disease. The aim of this paper is to carry out a review on the pain in pediatric patients with cancer, stating the most common assessment procedures and techniques of psychological intervention. The characteristics and implementation procedure of breathing control, relaxation training, distraction, visualization, contingency management and hypnosis are reviewed. Therefore, several studies about the efficacy of each psychological technique for reducing pain in children with cancer are considered (AU)

Psychological coping with childhood cancer involves the use of strategies and resources that help children and their families undergo the disease with the fewest possible emotional and behavioural problems. In the field of Psychology, techniques and programs have been developed and adapted with the aim of minimizing the psychological impact of the diagnosis and treatment of childhood and adolescent cancer. The present paper reviews psychological procedures based on the cognitive-behavioural paradigm, such as transmission of information, coping skills training, the use of audiovisual materials, games, bibliotherapy, and humour. It considers the use of such procedures in children and adolescents and the role of parents in the preparation (AU)
