RESUMO

Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo (D. officinale), one of the nine everlasting types of grass, has gained increasing attention owing to its important roles in alternative medicines and drug discovery. Due to its natural resources being in danger of being extinct, imitation wild planting is becoming increasingly common. To assess the product's quality completely, an efficient ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QQQ-MS/MS) method was established to simultaneously quantify nine phenolic compounds in D. officinale samples. The extraction parameters, including solvent, solvent concentration, solid-liquid ratio, and extraction time, were systematically optimized with the single-factor test. The results demonstrated that extraction with a 1:200 solid-to-liquid ratio of 80% methanol for 1.5 h was the most efficient condition for the extraction of flavonoids. Satisfactory retention times and resolution of the nine analytes were acquired on the Thermo Scientific Hypersil GOLD column with multiple reaction monitoring in negative ion scanning mode. The method was validated to demonstrate its selectivity, linearity, precision, accuracy, and robustness. Thus, the verified UHPLC-QQQ-MS/MS method was successfully applied to the quantification of phenolic components present in D. officinale samples. The results indicated that the quantity and composition of phenolic components in D. officinale from various provenances were significantly different. This work provides a theoretical foundation for the cultivation and assessment of wild D. officinale quality.

RESUMO

The genus Piper, a member of the Piperaceae family, comprises >2000 species, of which many are well known to possess considerable economic and medicinal values. Lignans are essential ingredients and are rich in Piper plants. Although many phytochemical studies have reported many lignans identified from Piper plants, comprehensive research has not reviewed these compounds. Hence, the present review reports on natural lignans from the genus Piper and their pharmacological activities. At least 275 lignans have been discovered from the Piper genus until October 2022, including traditional lignans, neolignans, oxyneolignans, norlignans, secolignans, and polyneolignans, especially some neolignans and norlignans with novel and complex scaffolds. In addition, these lignans have been reported to show various pharmacological activities, such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, antioxidative, anti-platelet aggregation, cytotoxic, anti-parasitic, CYP3A4 inhibitory activities, and so on. The current work presents an up-to-date critical review and a systematic summary of publications on lignans from the genus Piper to lay the groundwork and show better insights for further investigations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the third most common diagnosis made by general practitioners in older patients. The aim of this study was to compare the function scores of different surgeries in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). METHODS: Cohort studies about different surgical treatments for KOA were included with a comprehensive search in PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase. The standard mean difference (SMD) value was evaluated and the surface under the cumulative ranking (SUCRA) curve was drawn with a combination of direct and indirect evidence. A total of 265 eligible patients were enrolled and served as the nonoperative treatment group, osteotomy group, unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) group, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) group, and arthroscopic surgery group. Before surgery, 6 months after surgery, 1 year after surgery and 5 years after surgery, the hospital for special surgery (HSS) knee score, Lysholm score, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score, and American knee society score (KSS) were recorded. RESULTS: A total of 9 cohort studies including 954 patients with KOA were finally enrolled into the study. The network-meta analysis revealed that osteotomy and UKA treatments showed a better efficacy on improving the function score. Our cohort study further confirmed that, a higher HSS knee score after 1 year and higher Lysholm score after 6 months and 1 year were observed in the osteotomy and UKA groups, while better HSS knee score and KSS after 6 months and 1 year were showed in the osteotomy and TKA groups. In the TKA group, Lysholm score and KSS were higher and WOMAC score was lower after 5 years than other groups. WOMAC score was lowest in the UKA group after 6 months, 1 year and 5 years of surgery. CONCLUSION: These results provide evidence that function scores of patients with KOA were improved by osteotomy, UKA, TKA, and arthroscopic surgery. And osteotomy and UKA showed better short-term efficacy, while TKA appeared better long-term efficacy.
