RESUMO

We report the complete genome sequence of Streptomyces vietnamensis GIMV4.0001(T), a new and genetically manipulable producer of the benzoisochromanequinone antibiotic granaticin, whose unique sugar attachment pattern in structure has drawn much attention among chemical and biochemical researchers. The genome of S. vietnamensis GIMV4.0001(T) consists of one linear chromosome (8,867,142 bp, 72.09% G+C content) and one linear megaplasmid named pSVL1 (286,635 bp, 69.04% G+C content), encoding a total of 7356 protein coding genes. Twenty-nine gene clusters for secondary metabolites were predicted on the chromosome.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of pulse high volume hemofiltration (PHVHF) in the treatment of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). METHODS: Twenty-five patients with MODS received treatment with PHVHF. RESULTS: The 25 patients showed significantly decreased BUN, Scr, and K(+) levels after the treatment (P<0.01), and PaO(2)/FiO(2) was improved in almost all the patients (P<0.05). The APACHEII scores were significantly improved (P<0.05) in these patients and 18 of them were cured and discharged. PHVHF therapy was associated with a survival rate of 72%. CONCLUSIONS: PHVHF can be effective for treatment of MODS.

RESUMO

An optically pumped XeF(C-A) laser with 0.1-1 Hz pulse-repetition mode is demonstrated. The maximum output energy is up to 18.7 J, which corresponds to the conversion efficiency of the stored electrical energy to laser output energy of 0.25%. The laser active medium is optically excited by vacuum-ultraviolet radiation of two single-channel surface discharges initiated along opposite walls of the laser cell. The laser resonator output coupling is 10%, and the initial XeF2 concentration in the active gas mixture is ~1 x 10(17) cm(-3). The duration of the observed laser pulses is 0.8 to 1.2 micros, and the spectral band is 470-500 nm.
