RESUMO

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an αßγ heterotrimer protein kinase that functions as a molecular sensor to maintain energy homeostasis. Accumulating evidence suggests a role of AMPK signaling in the regulation of synaptic plasticity and cognitive function; however, isoform-specific roles of AMPK in the central nervous system (CNS) remain elusive. Regulation of the AMPK activities has focused on the manipulation of the α or γ subunit. Meanwhile, accumulating evidence indicates that the ß subunit is critical for sensing nutrients such as fatty acids and glycogen to control AMPK activity. Here, we generated transgenic mice with conditional suppression of either AMPKß1 or ß2 in neurons and characterized potential isoform-specific roles of AMPKß in cognitive function and underlying mechanisms. We found that AMPKß2 (but not ß1) suppression resulted in impaired recognition memory, reduced hippocampal synaptic plasticity, and altered structure of hippocampal postsynaptic densities and dendritic spines. Our study implicates a role for the AMPKß2 isoform in the regulation of synaptic and cognitive function.

RESUMO

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) enables mobile robots to autonomously perform localization and mapping tasks in unknown environments. Despite significant progress achieved by visual SLAM systems in ideal conditions, relying solely on a single robot and point features for mapping in large-scale indoor environments with weak-texture structures can affect mapping efficiency and accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-robot collaborative mapping method based on point-line fusion to address this issue. This method is designed for indoor environments with weak-texture structures for localization and mapping. The feature-extraction algorithm, which combines point and line features, supplements the existing environment point feature-extraction method by introducing a line feature-extraction step. This integration ensures the accuracy of visual odometry estimation in scenes with pronounced weak-texture structure features. For relatively large indoor scenes, a scene-recognition-based map-fusion method is proposed in this paper to enhance mapping efficiency. This method relies on visual bag of words to determine overlapping areas in the scene, while also proposing a keyframe-extraction method based on photogrammetry to improve the algorithm's robustness. By combining the Perspective-3-Point (P3P) algorithm and Bundle Adjustment (BA) algorithm, the relative pose-transformation relationships of multi-robots in overlapping scenes are resolved, and map fusion is performed based on these relative pose relationships. We evaluated our algorithm on public datasets and a mobile robot platform. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm exhibits higher robustness and mapping accuracy. It shows significant effectiveness in handling mapping in scenarios with weak texture and structure, as well as in small-scale map fusion.

RESUMO

Protein grass hay (PGH) was used as a new feed source for lambs to study its effect on fattening performance and meat quality. Fifty-six male lambs were allotted to four experimental groups and fed for eight weeks either alfalfa hay (AH)-based diet (control) or diets in which AH was replaced with 33 %, 66 %, or 99 % PGH. The inclusion of PGH did not affect final body weight, dry matter intake, average daily gain, feed conversion ratio, or carcass weight. Moreover, substituting AH with PGH at any level did not influence the ruminal fermentation or serum biochemical parameters, meat color, water holding capacity, shear force, or amino acid profile. However, relative liver weight was increased with 66 % substitutions. Furthermore, replacing 99 % AH with PGH decreased the meat's pH at 24 h. Higher levels of C18:3n-3, C20:5n-3, and total n-3 PUFA and a lower ratio of n-6: n-3 PUFA were also observed in meat from lambs fed PGH at 99 %. These findings suggest that PGH could be incorporated into the lamb's diet up to 99 % without compromising fattening performance and body health while improving their meat n-3 PUFA deposition.

RESUMO

Introduction: Stephania longa, a medicinal plant renowned for producing cepharanthine, has gained significance due to the compound's notable antiviral properties against SARS-CoV-2. However, a comprehensive genetic understanding of S. longa has been lacking. This study aimed to develop a high-quality, chromosome-level genome assembly to uncover the genetic intricacies and evolutionary narrative of this species. By integrating genomic data with metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses, we sought to identify key genes involved in cepharanthine biosynthesis. Methods: We employed a multi-faceted approach comprising genome assembly, phylogenetic analysis, gene family dynamics investigation, metabolomic profiling, and gene expression analysis across various tissues of S. longa. This integrated strategy enabled the identification of key genes involved in cepharanthine biosynthesis and elucidated the species' evolutionary history. Results: Our phylogenetic analysis clarified the placement of the genus Stephania within the Ranunculales order and revealed its notably high mutation rate. We identified gene family expansions and signs of positive selection likely contributing to Stephania's unique metabolic capabilities. Metabolomic profiling uncovered complex regulatory mechanisms orchestrating the biosynthesis and distribution of cepharanthine and related metabolites. Through the integration of genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic data, we identified genes with expression patterns and evolutionary trajectories suggesting pivotal roles in cepharanthine biosynthesis, including those involved in crucial biosynthetic steps. Discussion: This comprehensive study, integrating genomic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic approaches, provides valuable insights into S. longa's biosynthetic potential. It not only enhances our understanding of the species but also establishes a foundation for future investigations into the biosynthesis and therapeutic exploitation of cepharanthine and related alkaloids.

RESUMO

Background: Interleukin 13 receptor subunit alpha 2 (IL13RA2) plays an essential role in the progression of many cancers. However, the role of IL13RA2 in infantile haemangioma (IH) is still unknown. Materials and Methods: IL13RA2 expression in IH tissues was analyzed using western blot, qRT-PCR, and immunofluorescence. The role of IL13RA2 in haemangioma-derived endothelial cells (HemECs) was determined following knockdown or overexpression of IL13RA2 using CCK-8, colony formation, apoptosis, wound healing, tubule formation, Transwell, and western blot. Results: IL13RA2 expression was upregulated in IH tissues. IL13RA2 overexpression promoted proliferation, migration, and invasion of HemECs and induced glycolysis, which was confirmed with a glycolysis inhibitor. Specifically, IL13RA2 interacted with ß-catenin and activated the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway in HemECs, which were involved in the above-mentioned effects of IL13RA2. Conclusions: These findings revealed that targeting IL13RA2 is a potential therapeutic approach for IH.

RESUMO

Introduction: Non-attendance with scheduled postoperative follow-up visits remains a common issue in orthopaedic clinical research. The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with loss to follow-up among elderly patients with hip-fracture postoperatively. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1-year post-surgery was performed on patients aged over 60 years who underwent hip-fracture surgery from January 2017 to March 2019. Based on their completion of the appointed follow-up schedule, the patients were classified into 2 groups: the Loss to Follow-up (LTFU) Group and the Follow-up (FU) Group. Clinical outcomes were evaluated by Functional Recovery Score (FRS) questionnaires. Telephone interviews were conducted with patients lost to follow-up to determine the reasons for non-attendance. A comparative analysis of baseline characteristics between the 2 groups was implemented, with further exploration of statistical differences through logistic regression. Results: A total of 992 patients met the inclusion criteria were included in this study, of which 189 patients, accounting for 19.1%, were lost to follow-up 1 year postoperatively. The mean age of the patients in the LTFU Group was 82.0 years, significantly higher than the 76.0 years observed in the FU Group (P < 0.001). The FRS for the LTFU Group was marginally higher than that of the FU group (84.0 vs 81.0), with no significant difference (P = 0.060). Logistic regression analysis identified several significant predictors of noncompliance, including advanced age at surgery, femoral neck fracture, hip arthroplasty, long distance from residence to hospital, and the reliance on urban-rural public transportation for reaching the hospital. Conclusion: Postoperative follow-up loss was prevalent among elderly patients with hip fractures. Our study indicated a constellation of risk factors contributing to noncompliance, including advanced age, transportation difficulties, long travel distance, femoral neck fracture and hip arthroplasty surgery.

RESUMO

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for disproportionately poor outcomes in breast cancer, driven by a subset of rapid-relapse TNBC (rrTNBC) with marked chemoresistance, rapid metastatic spread, and poor survival. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram based on clinicopathological characteristics to predict rapid relapse in TNBC patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) first. Methods: The clinicopathological data of 504 TNBC patients treated with NAC first in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital were analyzed retrospectively, with 109 rapid relapsed patients, and 395 non-rapid relapsed patients, respectively. Based on clinicopathologic characteristics, and follow-up data were analyzed. The independent predictors of clinicopathological characteristics were identified by logistic regression analysis and then used to build a nomogram. The concordance index (C-index), the area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC), and calibration plots were used to evaluate the performance of the model. Results: Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that age at diagnosis (age≥50 years, OR = 0.325,95% CI:0.137-0.771), Nodal staging (N3 staging, OR = 13.669,95% CI:3.693-50.592),sTIL expression levels (sTIL intermediate expression, OR = 0.272,95% CI:0.109-0.678; sTIL high expression, OR = 0.169,95% CI:0.048-0.594), and NAC response (ORR, OR = 0.059,95% CI:0.024-0.143) were independent predictors of rapid relapse in TNBC patients treated with NAC firstly. Among these independent predictors, age ≥ 50 years, sTIL intermediate expression, sTIL high expression, and ORR in NAC were independent protective factors for rapid relapse in TNBC NAC patients. N3 staging was an independent risk factor for rapid relapse in TNBC NAC patients. The ROC curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis were used to validate the model. The C-Index of the training sets and validation sets were 0.938 and 0.910, respectively. The Brier scores of the training sets and validation sets were 0.076 and 0.097, respectively. Conclusion: This study developed and verified a nomogram for predicting rapid relapse in TNBC NAC patients, and the predictive model had high discrimination and accuracy.

RESUMO

Sepsis is a life-threatening state of organ dysfunction caused by systemic inflammation and a dysfunctional response to host infections that can induce severe intestinal mucosal damage. Pyroptosis is mediated by the activated NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome after stimulation by various inflammatory factors during sepsis. The inflammatory response is a major driver of intestinal damage during sepsis. Intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction in sepsis is associated with pyroptosis, a type of programmed inflammatory cell death. Several studies have confirmed the role of miR-155 in sepsis and other diseases. However, the effect of miR-155 on intestinal pyroptosis in the context of intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction during sepsis remains unclear. Thus, a model of sepsis in Sprague-Dawley rats is established using cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), and a series of molecular biological methods are used in this study. The results show that the expression of miR-155 is increased and that of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is decreased in the intestinal tissues of patients with sepsis. miR-155 expression is negatively correlated with SIRT1 expression. Increased miR-155 expression significantly inhibits SIRT1 activity and upregulates the expressions of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3), caspase-1, apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and interleukin-18 (IL-18) to promote pyroptosis. The inhibition of miR-155 expression is associated with increased SIRT1 expression, promotes the deacetylation of p65, and significantly downregulates p65 acetylation. Herein, we propose that miR-155 induces pyroptosis in the intestine partly by regulating SIRT1, thereby reducing the deacetylation of the nuclear factor (NF)-κB subunit p65 and increasing NF-κB signaling activity in sepsis, leading to intestinal barrier damage.

RESUMO

This study explores the role of floral volatile organic compounds (FVOCs) in insect behavior, focusing on Aquilaria sinensis (AS), a valuable tropical plant threatened by Heortia vitessoides Moore. Despite H. vitessoides' attraction to AS and non-host plants like Elaeocarpus decipiens (ED) and Dalbergia odorifera (DO), little is known about their chemical interactions. FVOCs from these plants were analyzed at 9:00 and 18:00 using GC×GC-QTOF-MS and HS-SPME. The results showed that ED exhibiting the highest concentration (92.340 ng/mg), followed by DO (75.167 ng/mg) and AS (64.450 ng/mg). Through GC-EAD and EAG, a total of 11 FVOC compounds with electrophysiological activates were identified. These compounds, except linalool, showed dose-dependent responses. Y-Tube bioassays confirmed phenylethyl alcohol or the mixture of EAD-active compounds produced positive chemotactic responses in both males and females. FVOCs have the potential to be used as a natural and sustainable alternative to chemical insecticides in pest control.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aims to examine the association of depressive trajectories with disability-free-survival (DFS). METHODS: This prospective cohort study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, 2011-2015. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Centre for Epidemiology Studies Depression Scale-10. Disability was assessed using activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental ADLs. Trajectories of depressive symptoms were identified and classified by latent mixture modelling. Logistic regression models were used to examine the association between depressive trajectories and DFS. RESULTS: A total of 8373 participants aged 45 years and older were included. We identified four distinct trajectories of depressive symptoms: 'no depressive symptoms', 'decreasing depressive symptoms', 'increasing depressive symptoms', and 'persistent depressive symptoms'. Compared to participants in the no depressive symptom trajectory, those in the decreasing depressive symptoms, increasing depressive symptoms and persistent depressive symptoms trajectories had an increased risk of disability or mortality, with multiple-adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) of 1.75 (1.45-2.12), 2.05 (1.77-2.38) and 3.50 (2.77-4.42). CONCLUSION: Our study shows that among middle-aged and older Chinese adults, individuals with a trajectory of depressive symptoms are at increased risk of disability or mortality. Our findings underscore the importance of early prevention, identification and intervention of depression in clinical care to promote healthy ageing.

RESUMO

Aqueous rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (ARLIBs) are extensively researched due to their inherent safety, typical affordability, and potential high energy density. However, fabricating ARLIBs with both high energy density and power performance remains challenging. Herein, based on cyanoethyl-modified bacterial cellulose nanofibers (CBCNs), a multifunctional fast ion transport framework is developed to construct the flexible free-standing ARLIBs with high areal loading and excellent rate performance. Benefiting from the unique merits of CBCNs, such as ultra-high aspect ratio, excellent toughness, superior adhesion, good lithiophilicity and ideal stability, the flexible free-standing and highly robust electrodes are fabricated and exhibit a long-term stable cycling of 1200 cycles with a high specific capacity of 117 mAh∙g-1 at 15 C. Remarkably, the corresponding full cell with the free-standing high mass loading (45.5 mg∙cm-2) electrodes under the condition of ultra-low addition of battery binder demonstrates a cycle lifespan of over 1000 cycles with a specific capacity of 120 mAh∙g-1 and a capacity decay as low as 0.03% per cycle, which is far superior to those of almost all previous reports. This work provides a strategy for constructing ARLIBs with high energy density and power performance by introducing a unique fast ion transport nanofiber framework.

RESUMO

Osseointegration is significantly impeded in osteoporotic conditions due to the elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammation at the site of injury. To enhance bone regeneration in osteoporotic conditions, a modified polyether ether ketone (PEEK) implants was prepared, denoted as PEEK-PDA-Sr. The implants consisted of mussel adhesion layer with the conjugation of strontium (Sr) ions, which can constantly release Sr ions for up to 3 weeks. PEEK-PDA-Sr demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and effectively regulated intracellular ROS levels and macrophage differentiation. In addition, the PEEK-PDA-Sr facilitated the osteogenesis of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs). In the ovariectomized (OVX) rat model of osteoporosis, the PEEK-PDA-Sr exhibited raised osseointegration in the femoral bone defects. The PEEK-PDA-Sr can be used as an immunoregulator with enhanced osseointegration and osteogenesis both in vivo and in vitro, which provides an available approach to treat osteoporotic bone defects.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The study will be to observe the effect of Sodium butyrate (NaB) on bone loss in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated rats. METHODS: In the rat model, we observed that changes in the expression of oxidative stress regulators, inflammatory markers and target genes were measured by immunofluorescence and RT-PCR after treatment. Changes in viability and osteogenesis of MC3T3-E1, osteoclast differentiation in RAW264.7 cells in the presence of LPS were evaluated using CCK-8, ALP staining, RES staining, and TRAP staining. RESULTS: In vitro experiments have shown that LPS-induced inhibition of JC-1, SIRT1, GPX1 and SOD2 is associated with increased levels of inflammation and oxidative stress. In addition, NaB has been found to suppress oxidative stress, inflammation and Mito SOX, promote osteogenic differentiation, and inhibit osteoclast differentiation. In addition, NaB significantly promoted SITR1 expression, repaired impaired bone metabolism, and improved bone strength and bone mineral density. CONCLUSION: Given all this experimental evidence, the results strongly suggest that NaB can restore osteogenic activity in the presence of LPS by reducing intracellular ROS, inhibiting osteoclast differentiation and reducing bone loss in LPS-treated rat models.

RESUMO

Background: As a highly aggressive cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is often found at an advanced stage and has a poor prognosis. Therefore, in addition to the surgical treatment of HCC, the drug therapy for HCC is still under continuous exploration. The primary apolipoprotein of high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) is apolipoprotein A-I binding protein (AIBP), which has a significant impact on cholesterol metabolism, angiogenesis, and a wide range of inflammatory disorders, including cancer. The AIBP function in HCC is, however, yet unknown. This study aims to reveal the underlying mechanisms of AIBP influencing HCC proliferation and migration through mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways. Methods: AIBP expression and its clinical prognostic association were investigated using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data. The AIBP expression was studied in human HCC tissues using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and western blotting. Colony formation assays (CFAs) and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) were used to determine in vitro cell proliferation. Cell migration and invasion were evaluated using wound-healing and transwell assays. A xenograft tumor model was employed to investigate HCC cell proliferation in nude mice. Results: Tissues from HCC patients had much increased AIBP expression compared to nearby normal tissues. The prognosis for patients was bleak when AIBP expression was high. When AIBP was overexpressed in SMMC-7721 cells, the cells may become more proliferative, migrative, and invasive. In contrast, the HCC-LM3 cells' ability to proliferate, migrate, and invade was drastically decreased once AIBP was knocked down in vitro. Furthermore, in vivo research showed that AIBP overexpression may enhance cell proliferation in HCC. Finally, we discovered that AIBP could control the MAPK signaling pathway-involved genes expression, including P-MEK, MEK, c-Myc, P-ERK1/2, and ERK1/2, and that GDC-0994, a specific ERK1/2 inhibitor, could suppress the AIBP overexpression induced cell migration and proliferation abilities. Conclusions: These findings demonstrated that the ERK/MAPK signaling pathway might be stimulated by AIBP in HCC tissues, leading to increased cell invasion, migration, and proliferation. It was hypothesized that AIBP might act as a useful prognostic and diagnostic marker for HCC.

RESUMO

Background: Apathy is a state of decreased interest, lack of initiative, reduced goal-directed activity and blunted emotional responses. Apathy is one of the most common neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is also relatively omnipresent in individuals with Down syndrome (DS). Little is known about the apathy-like behaviors in rodent models of AD and DS. Objective: This study aimed to characterize apathy-like behaviors with aging in two established DS mouse models: Ts65Dn and Dp16. Methods: A battery of behavioral tests including nestlet shredding, marble burying, nest building, and burrowing were performed to examine apathy-like behaviors. Individual z-scores for each mouse for each test, and a composite z-score of apathy-like behavior were analyzed for all mice from these behavioral tests. Results: Analysis of individual test results and composite z-score revealed significant apathy-like behaviors in Ts65Dn mice compared to WT controls. In contrast, Dp16 mice did not exhibit significant apathy-like behaviors. Conclusions: Our study is the first to characterize apathy-like behaviors in mouse models of DS with aging and highlights the difference between Ts65Dn and Dp16 DS model mice regarding apathy-like manifestations with aging.

RESUMO

Gyroid, double diamond and the body-centred "Plumber's nightmare" are the three most common bicontinuous cubic phases in lyotropic liquid crystals and block copolymers. While the first two are also present in solvent-free thermotropics, the latter had never been found. Containing six-fold junctions, it was unlikely to form in the more common phases with rod-like cores normal to the network columns, where a maximum of four branches can join at a junction. The solution has therefore been sought in side-branched mesogens that lie in axial bundles joined at their ends by flexible "hinges". But for the tightly packed double framework, geometric models predicted that the side-chains should be very short. The true Plumber's nightmare reported here, using fluorescent dithienofluorenone rod-like mesogen, has been achieved with, indeed, no side chains at all, but with 6 flexible end-chains. Such molecules normally form columnar phases, but the key to converting a complex helical column-forming mesogen into a framework-forming one was the addition of just one methyl group to each pendant chain. A geometry-based explanation is given.

RESUMO

The rumen microbiome plays an important role in providing energy and protein to the host. Manipulation of rumen microbiome during early life may have a long-term beneficial effect on the health, growth performance, and feed efficiency of ruminants. To better understand the profiles and functional potentials of rumen microbiome in young ruminants, metagenomic binning was performed to investigate the rumen microbiome of goat kids from one to 84 days of age. A total of 797 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) were recovered from the rumen of 42 Laiwu black goat kids. Our findings provide fundamental knowledge of the rumen microbiome during early life based on metagenomic binning, which may provide insights into effective strategies to achieve long-term beneficial effects on animal health and production.

RESUMO

Contactin-associated protein1 (Caspr1) plays an important role in the formation and stability of myelinated axons. In Caspr1 mutant mice, autophagy-related structures accumulate in neurons, causing axonal degeneration; however, the mechanism by which Caspr1 regulates autophagy remains unknown. To illustrate the mechanism of Caspr1 in autophagy process, we demonstrated that Caspr1 knockout in primary neurons from mice along with human cell lines, HEK-293 and HeLa, induced autophagy by downregulating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway to promote the conversion of microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 I (LC3-I) to LC3-II. In contrast, Caspr1 overexpression in cells contributed to the upregulation of this signaling pathway. We also demonstrated that Caspr1 knockout led to increased LC3-I protein expression in mice. In addition, Caspr1 could inhibit the expression of autophagy-related 4B cysteine peptidase (ATG4B) protein by directly binding to ATG4B in overexpressed Caspr1 cells. Intriguingly, we found an accumulation of ATG4B in the Golgi apparatuses of cells overexpressing Caspr1; therefore, we speculate that Caspr1 may restrict ATG4 secretion from the Golgi apparatus to the cytoplasm. Collectively, our results indicate that Caspr1 may regulate autophagy by modulating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and the levels of ATG4 protein, both in vitro and in vivo. Thus, Caspr1 can be a potential therapeutic target in axonal damage and demyelinating diseases.

RESUMO

Polyploidization presents an unusual challenge for species with sex chromosomes, as it can lead to complex combinations of sex chromosomes that disrupt reproductive development. This is particularly true for allopolyploidization between species with different sex chromosome systems. Here, we assemble haplotype-resolved chromosome-level genomes of a female allotetraploid weeping willow (Salix babylonica) and a male diploid S. dunnii. We show that weeping willow arose from crosses between a female ancestor from the Salix-clade, which has XY sex chromosomes on chromosome 7, and a male ancestor from the Vetrix-clade, which has ancestral XY sex chromosomes on chromosome 15. We find that weeping willow has one pair of sex chromosomes, ZW on chromosome 15, that derived from the ancestral XY sex chromosomes in the male ancestor of the Vetrix-clade. Moreover, the ancestral 7X chromosomes from the female ancestor of the Salix-clade have reverted to autosomal inheritance. Duplicated intact ARR17-like genes on the four homologous chromosomes 19 likely have contributed to the maintenance of dioecy during polyploidization and sex chromosome turnover. Taken together, our results suggest the rapid evolution and reversion of sex chromosomes following allopolyploidization in weeping willow.

RESUMO

To investigate the etiologies and clinical characteristics of full-thickness macular hole (FTMH) cases at Shanxi Eye Hospital in North China. Patients diagnosed with FTMH who underwent surgery from 2012 to 2020 were included, and the etiologies and clinical features of MH types were analyzed in an 8-year, cross-sectional, retrospective study. A total of 752 cases (776 eyes) were analyzed. The top 3 subtypes of MH were idiopathic (IMH, 64.4%), myopic (MMH, 21.1%) and traumatic (TMH, 3.7%) MH. Among these, there were significant differences in sex, age, and baseline best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) distributions. Females predominated in the IMH and MMH groups, while males predominated in the TMH group. The IMH onset age was older than the MMH and TMH onset ages. Baseline BCVA in the IMH (Z = 8.9, P < .001) and the other group (Z = 4.0, P < .001) was significantly better than that in the MMH group. In the IMH group, females were younger, had a shorter axial length (AL), and had a worse baseline BCVA than males, while in the MMH group, there were no significant sex differences. Multivariate correlation analysis showed that a smaller hole diameter in IMH, no retinal detachment in MMH, and a younger age in TMH may result in better baseline BCVA. The most common MH etiologies were IMH, MMH and TMH, which contributed to differences in clinical features. Females predominated in the IMH and MMH groups, and the onset of MMH occurred 6.5 years earlier than the onset of IMH. Therefore, early fundus monitoring in females and high myopia patients is helpful for the early detection and treatment of MH.
