RESUMO

Recovery of phosphates from ferrous and/or ferric residues as a result of chemical precipitation was investigated. The product of biological reduction of sulphates--sulphides and free hydrogen sulphide--can react with iron ions forming ferrous sulphide which are less soluble then ferrous phosphates, releasing phosphates into solution. Laboratory scale experiments have confirmed the possibility of phosphates recovery. It was found that strict anaerobic conditions are required and that the process is COD/S ratio dependent.

RESUMO

Analysis of the radiotherapy's failures in a form of metastatic lymph nodes was performed in the group of 373 laryngeal cancer patients. The authors point out that irradiation of large metastatic lymph nodes do not produce satisfying results. In the cases with supraglottic involvement there is a need of elective total neck irradiation.

RESUMO

In 1960-1987, 2387, 2352 cases of larynx cancer were treated and observed. In 1484 (63.1%) cases the cancer of the epiglottis was found, in 851 (36.2%)--in glottis and in 17 (0.7%) in subglottis. Cancers of supraglottis, in 60.0% cases. were in state III and IV of clinical advance and cancers of glottis in the same state were found in 20.6% of cases. Generally 52.4% of cases of epiglottis cancer were cured of and 74.4% of glottis cancer. Relative survivals were accordingly: 59.0% and 87.0%. In the period of 5-year observation 47.6% of cases of epiglottis cancer died and 25.6% died of glottis cancer. The chances of recovering of epiglottis and glottis cancer are similar when the cancer is in the same state of clinical advance. 76.3% of objects with epiglottis cancer and 83.8% of glottis cancer in the early state (I and II) of clinical advance survived for 5 years and 37.6% objects sick of epiglottis cancer and 38.7% with glottis cancer in clinical state III and IV.

RESUMO

The early and late local reactions after radiotherapy were evaluated by means of International Classification, in 345 laryngeal cancer patients. The positive correlation was found between the grade of reaction and radiation dose as so irradiated volume. The same tolerance was found in patients treated by X-therapy and cobalt teletherapy ++. The time for observation of the early reaction may be according to the authors elongated from 6 to 12 months.

RESUMO

The authors analysed the survival time of 372 patients subjected to radiotherapy after operations for central nervous system tumours of glial origin. Subtentorial gliomas with a better prognosis than supratentorial gliomas accounted for 82% of cases in this group of 67 children, and cerebellar medulloblastoma most sensitive to radiation accounted for 85%. In the group of 305 adults supratentorial tumours were found in 90.8% of cases, and the very malignant multiform glioblastoma was present in 50.8% of cases. In view of these differences the five-year survival rate was 31.3% in children than 40 years; no sex differences were found between the groups with different survival rates. Postoperative radiotherapy of malignant gliomas is of great value prolonging the life of the patients and improving its quality.

RESUMO

Analysis of the treatment failure was performed in the group of 634 laryngeal cancer patients treated by radiotherapy. It has been demonstrated that extensiveness of neoplasm and supraglottic region were disadvantageous as prognostic factors in radiotherapy patients.
