RESUMO

Designing suitable anion exchange ionomers is critical to improving the performance and in situ durability of anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs) as one of the promising devices for producing green hydrogen. Herein, highly gas-permeable and dimensionally stable anion exchange ionomers (QC6xBA and QC6xPA) are developed, in which bulky cyclohexyl (C6) groups are introduced into the polymer backbones. QC650BA-2.1 containing 50 mol% C6 composition shows 16.6 times higher H2 permeability and 22.3 times higher O2 permeability than that of QC60BA-2.1 without C6 groups. Through-plane swelling of QC650BA-2.1 decreases to 12.5% from 31.1% (QC60BA-2.1) while OH- conductivity slightly decreases (64.9 and 56.2 mS cm-1 for QC60BA-2.1 and QC650BA-2.1, respectively, at 30 °C). The water electrolysis cell using the highly gas permeable QC650BA-2.1 ionomer and Ni0.8Co0.2O in the anode catalyst layer achieves two times higher performance (2.0 A cm-2 at 1.69 V, IR-included) than those of the previous cell using in-house ionomer (QPAF-4-2.0) (1.0 A cm-2 at 1.69 V, IR-included). During 1000 h operation at 1.0 A cm-2, the QC650BA-2.1 cell exhibits nearly constant cell voltage with a decay rate of 1.1 µV h-1 after the initial increase of the cell voltage, proving the effectiveness of the highly gas permeable and dimensionally stable ionomer in AEMWEs.

RESUMO

The emergence of microgrids arises from the growing integration of Renewable Energy Resources (RES) and Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) into Distribution Networks (DNs). Effective integration, coordination, and control of Multiple Microgrids (MMGs) whereas navigating the complexities of energy transition within this context poses a significant challenge. The dynamic operation of MMGs is a challenge faced by the traditional distributed hierarchical control techniques. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques is a promising way to improve the control and dynamic operation of MMGs in future smart DNs. In this paper, an innovative hybrid optimization technique that originates from Cheetah Optimization (CHO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques is proposed, known as HYCHOPSO. Extensive benchmark testing validates HYCHOPSO's superiority over CHO and PSO in terms of convergence performance. The objective for this hybridization stems from the complementary strengths of CHO and PSO. CHO demonstrates rapid convergence in local search spaces, while PSO excels in global exploration. By combining these techniques, the aim is to leverage their respective advantages and enhance the algorithm's overall performance in addressing complex optimization problems. The contribution of this paper offering a unique approach to addressing optimization challenges in microgrid systems. Through a comprehensive comparative study, HYCHOPSO is evaluated against various metaheuristic optimization approaches, demonstrating superior performance, particularly in optimizing the design parameters of Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers for hierarchical control systems within microgrids. This contribution expands the repertoire of available optimization methodologies and offers practical solutions to critical challenges in microgrid optimization, enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of microgrid operations. HYCHOPSO achieves its optimal score within fewer than 50 iterations, unlike CHO, GWO, PSO, Hybrid-GWO-PSO, and SSIA-PSO, which stabilize after around 200 iterations. Across various benchmark functions, HYCHOPSO consistently demonstrates the lowest mean values, attains scores closer to the optimal values of the benchmark functions, underscoring its robust convergence capabilities.the proposed HYCHOPSO algorithm, paired with a PI controller for distributed hierarchical control, minimizes errors and enhances system reliability during dynamic MMG operations. Using HYCHOPSO framework, an accurate power sharing, voltage/frequency stability, seamless grid-to-island transition, and smooth resynchronization are achieved. This enhances the real application's reliability, flexibility, scalability and robustness.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Despite improving the 10-year disease-free-survival, prophylactic central neck dissection (pCND) in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) should only be considered in patients with high risk factors for lymph node (LN) metastasis due to the increases in the risk of postoperative complications. Our aim was to identify the risk factors for central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in DTC. METHOD: We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of science, Cochrane library for eligible studies from inception to November 1, 2021 and a systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out to identify the risk factors for CLNM in DTC. RESULTS: We included 41 studies with total of 27,741 patients in this study. The pooled results in this meta-analysis showed that these risk factors were significantly associated with CLNM: age < 45 years (odds ratio (OR) 1.64, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.34-1.99, p < 0.00001), male sex (OR 1.73, 95% CI 1.54-1.93, p < 0.00001), multifocality (OR 1.87, 95% CI 1.59-2.19, p < 0.00001), bilateral disease (OR 1.43, 95% CI 1.15-1.78, p < 0.001), capsular invasion (OR 1.67, 95% CI 1.10-2.54, p < 0.02), lymphovascular invasion (OR 4.89, 95% CI 2.76-8.66, p < 0.00001) and extra-thyroidal extension (OR 2.43, 95% CI 1.97-3.00, p < 0.00001). In addition, young age (< 45 years), male sex, multifocality, and extra-thyroidal extension were significantly associated with large-volume CLNM in clinically N0 DTC patients. However, the presence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis was not a predictors of large-volume CLNM. CONCLUSION: Young age (< 45 years), male sex, bilateral disease, multifocality, capsular invasion, lymphovascular invasion and extra-thyroidal extension are significantly associated with CLNM and pCND would be expected to have a higher yield in patients with these risk factors.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Pregabalin (PGB) was approved as new anti-epileptic drugs with little information about its teratogenic effect. AIM OF THE WORK: to evaluate the developmental toxicity of PGB. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 60 pregnant albino rats were divided into three groups. PGB (500 mg/kg body weight/day) was given to group II, PGB (1250 mg/kg body weight/day) was given to Group III and no medications were given to group I. The pups were normally delivered. Liver, kidney and heart specimens were prepared for histological, immunohistochemical, and morphometric studies. RESULTS: A dose of 500 mg of PGB had minimal toxic effects in the form of mild collagen deposition and moderate positive caspase-3 immunoexpression. PGB dose of 1250 mg/kg induced gross toxic effects in form of degenerated cardiac myofibres, ruptured blood vessels, vacuolations in the renal cortex, fibrosis and strong positive caspase-3 immunoexpression. CONCLUSION: PGB at dose of 500 mg/kg revealed minimal toxic changes. PGB cause embryotoxicity in a dose-dependent manner, as the higher dose induced more degenerative changes.

RESUMO

Newly designed styrylimidazolium-based grafted anion-exchange membranes (StIm-AEMs), in which imidazolium ionic groups are attached to styrene at the far side from the graft chains, were prepared by radiation-induced graft polymerization of p-(2-imidazoliumyl) styrene onto poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoloethylene) (ETFE) films, followed by N-alkylation and ion-exchange reactions. StIm-AEM having an ion exchange capacity (IEC) of 0.54 mmol g-1 with a grafting degree (GD) of ∼18%, possesses practical conductivity (>50 mS cm-1) even with a very low water uptake (∼10%) and high stability over 600 h in a 1 M KOH solution at 80 °C. There exists a critical IEC (IECc) in the range of 0.7-0.8 mmol g-1 over which the membrane showed high water uptake, which resulted in pronounced susceptibility to hydrolysis. Using small-angle neutron scattering technique with a contrast variation method, we found the hydrophilic phase in StIm-AEMs with IECs lower and higher than IECc shows "reverse-micelles" with water domains dispersed in the polymer matrix and "micelles" with graft polymer aggregates dispersed in the water matrix, respectively. The further analysis of micelle structures using the hard-sphere liquid model and Porod limit analysis reveals that the interfacial structures of ionic groups are essential for the electrochemical properties and durability of StIm-AEMs. In addition, StIm-AEM with an IEC of 0.95 mmol g-1 and the maximum power density of 80 mW cm-2 in the hydrazine hydrate fuel cell test, exhibited long-term durability under constant current (8.0 mA) up to 455 h, which, thus far, is the best durability at 80 °C for platinum-free alkaline-type liquid fuel cells.

RESUMO

Background: The incidence of torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has greatly increased, with today's increasing enthusiasm for sports activities. As a result, reconstruction of the torn anterior cruciate ligament became a common surgical procedure in orthopaedic surgery. Objective: To evaluate short term clinical outcome of adjustable suspensory fixation for femoral graft in ACL reconstruction. Methods: All patients treated for ACL reconstruction with an ipsilateral hamstring between March 2017 and March 2018 were evaluated. Subjects were assigned to TightRope™ (TR) femoral fixation. All patients were evaluated with the Lachman test, pivot-shift test, 2000 International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) knee examination. The subjective evaluation was performed using the Lysholm knee score. CT examination was performed to evaluate femoral and tibial tunnels enlargement at four different levels. All patients were assessed at a 12 month follow-up visit. Power analysis was performed a priori in accordance with the femoral and tibial tunnels enlargement values from the CT scans. Results: The group was homogenous at baseline with regard to age, gender, BMI, dominance and disease duration. At the final follow-up, no statistically significant differences were found according to subjective and objective clinical outcome measures. According to the femoral tunnel enlargement, no statistically significant difference was found between tunnel at operation and 12 months later. Conclusion: In transtibial ACL reconstruction, the use of adjustable-loop length device products, on the femoral side, led to better clinical and radiological results

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Cardiomyopathy may cause disruptions in the micro-vascular system of the stria vascularis in the cochlea, and, subsequently, may result in cochlear degeneration. Degeneration in the stria vascularis affects the physical and chemical processes in the organ of Corti, thereby causing a possible hearing impairment. The objective of this study was to assess the hearing profiles of patients with dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathies to determine the relationship between the degree of hearing loss and the degree and duration of the disease and to compare the dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathies as regards hearing profile. METHODS: In this case control study, we studied 21 patients (cases/study group/group 1) and 15 healthy individuals (controls/group 2). Six patients (group 1a) had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and 15 patients (group 1b) had dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The data were analyzed using the t-test, chi-squared test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Multiple Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS: The results of this study showed that 80% of those patients with DCM (group 1b) had bilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), and 100% of the patients with HCM (group 1a) had mild to severe bilateral sloping SNHL. Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAEs) were present in 14% of the study group and in 100 % of the control group. The results of the measurements of auditory brainstem response (ABR) showed that 50% of the study group had abnormal latencies compared to the control group, and there was no correlation between the duration of the disease and the degree of hearing loss or DPOAE. Fifty percent of the patients with HCM and 35% of the patients with DCM had positive family histories of similar conditions, and 35% of those with HCM had a positive family history of sudden death. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggested that the link between heart disease and hearing loss and early identification of hearing loss in patients with cardiomyopathy may reduce morbidity since hearing deficits sometimes precede heart disease.
