RESUMO

Teamwork is emerging like a model of prevailing reference in many working fields: the interaction and, above all, integration between several persons can be an instrument to empower the individual skills, allowing to reach different and higher levels of creativity and efficiency than the sum of the single members' capacities. However, the capacity of interaction, tolerance, and focusing on the problem is required to the members who also need training for this way of working. After a brief historical summary of some ''creative groups'' experiences in the fields of literature, science and arts, a vast review of theoretical model references is presented. Starting from specific North-American guidelines, a hypothesis of nutritional teamwork is introduced. This hypothesis aims at optimizing therapeutic interventions, at the critical review of the provided services and at a greater care for the cost-benefit ratio.

RESUMO

Oxygen consumption in blood platelets of 14 pituitary dwarfs aged from 2 to 8 years was investigated before and after a 2 months' treatment with growth hormone (GH). No significant difference was found between dwarfs and control subjects in respect of basal platelet oxygen uptake (4.0 +/- 3.8 mmol O2/10(9) platelets/min in dwarfs as against 6.4 +/- 4.1 in controls), but the abrupt increase in oxygen consumption induced by thrombin was significantly reduced in dwarfs (4.3 +/- 4.1) as compared with controls (12.3 +/- 7.6; p less than 0.01). During GH treatment, however, the dwarfs' response to thrombin stimulation was similar to that of controls. Since dwarfs had normal platelet malonyldialdehyde production, it is likely that the mitochondrial component of thrombin-induced high oxygen consumption was deficient. These results suggest that blood platelets may contribute to the protective effect of GH deficiency against atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

Hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadotropic activity was investigated in 9 girls with premature thelarche, and compared with that in 9 healthy girls and 6 girls with true precocious puberty. The gonadotropin stimulation test with luteinising hormone-releasing hormone was used. Girls with premature thelarche showed luteinising hormone response resembling that of normal girls, and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) response quite similar to that of girls with precocious puberty. This suggests that in premature thelarche there is a partial activation of the diencephalic-hypophyseal-gonadal axis, which affects FSH only. Premature thelarche therefore, should be considered as one of the disorders due to altered sensitivity of the hypothalamic receptors which regulate sex maturation.
