RESUMO

The rapid expansion of urban areas and soil sealing is enhancing the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon, especially during heat waves. The different thermal inertia of the building materials compared to natural surfaces is one of the major driving factors of UHI. The present contribution aims to test a methodology for mapping the Apparent Thermal Inertia (ATI)-a proxy that can be derived from remote sensing data-of roofing surfaces at the scale of an entire city and with a high spatial resolution. Day and night aerial thermal images with the resolution of 0.5 m were acquired over two test areas in Bologna (Italy), together with satellite multispectral data. Statistics on the buildings in the test areas are computed considering different classes of roofing materials (e.g. bituminous sheath, clay tiles, metal sheet, gravel tiles). Observed median ATI values for each class range from 0.03 to 0.09 K - 1 with interquartile ranges between 0.02 and 0.14 K - 1 , so the intra-class variability in some cases appears higher than the variability among different material classes, proving the importance of ATI mapping for UHI investigations.

RESUMO

The ability to observe the world has seen significant developments in the last few decades, alongside the techniques and methodologies to derive accurate digital replicas of observed environments. Underwater ecosystems present greater challenges and remain largely unexplored, but the need for reliable and up-to-date information motivated the birth of the Interreg Italy-Croatia SUSHI DROP Project (SUstainable fiSHeries wIth DROnes data Processing). The aim of the project is to map ecosystems for sustainable fishing and to achieve this goal a prototype of an Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV), named Blucy, has been designed and developed. Blucy was deployed during project missions for surveying the benthic zone in deep waters of the Adriatic Sea with non-invasive techniques compared to the use of trawl nets. This article describes the strategies followed, the instruments applied and the challenges to be overcome to obtain an accurately georeferenced underwater survey with the goal of creating a marine digital twin.

RESUMO

A microclimate classification of the entire Bologna Municipality has been carried out in order to give a tool to the local administration in the drafting of the General Urbanistic Plan (PUG). The city was classified considering the variation of air temperature as a function of the surface characteristics, the vegetation fraction, the building density and the H/W ratio (height to width). Starting from the microclimate analysis carried out with fluid-dynamic modeling (Envi-met) for some areas of the city of urban interest, the air temperature variation was correlated to the physiological equivalent temperature (PET) in order to make a classification of physiological well-being for the resident population. An urban map of a normalized microclimate well-being index (BMN) has been obtained to give support when private, and public actors want to regenerate part of the city, taking into account the climate-centered approach for the development of a sustainability city.
