RESUMO

Long-term administration of ethanol into animals within 1-6 months resulted in distinct alterations of blood serum fatty acid composition as well as in elevation of the saturation rate simultaneously with a decrease of fatty acid polyunsaturation. Calculated coefficients, which included ratios between fatty acid with various rates of unsaturation, were highly informative. Alterations of fatty acid composition in blood serum, registered during observations, reflected the state of fatty acid metabolism in tissues. Analysis of fatty acid spectrum in blood serum enabled to evaluate the severity of impairments in liver tissue and pancreas under conditions of alcohol intoxication: increase in the rate of phospholipid catabolism, in content of cholesterol, triglycerides and total lipids was observed both in blood serum and liver tissue. These impairments of lipid metabolism may produce alcohol hepatitis, which is the basis for liver tissue alcohol cirrhosis.

RESUMO

In experimental alcohol intoxication of rats with 40% ethanol content of higher fatty acids was altered in liver tissue. Content of saturated fatty acids was increased within 30-180 days of experiment, while the content of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids was simultaneously decreased.

RESUMO

222 patients with chronic alcoholism (the second step of the disease) at the state of abstination and in the period of alcohol consumption were studied. In the course of treatment the patients received about 0.5 g of teturam per day within 4 months. In blood serum of the patients content of ethanol, malonic dialdehyde and activity of ethanol-oxidizing system (EOS) were estimated. In practically healthy persons, consuming no ethanol, no activity of EOS was noted as a rule. But in the patients with chronic alcoholism activity of EOS was 100-fold increased with simultaneous elevation in ethanol and malonic dialdehyde content in blood serum. After treatment with teturam content of ethanol, malonic dialdehyde and, especially, activity of the EOS were decreased in blood of the patients. After the treatment during 4 months activity of EOS was still distinctly higher in the patients than in healthy persons.

RESUMO

Activity of the microsomal ethanol-oxidizing system (MEOS) was increased in rat liver tissue after acute and chronic alcohol intoxication of the animals with 40% solution of ethanol at a dose of 0.7 ml/100 g. The most distinct activation of MEOS (per 1 mg of protein and per 1 g of liver tissue) was observed in animals treated with ethanol three times weekly during 3 and 6 months.

RESUMO

The activity of a number of enzymes and the content of the protein and protein fractures in the blood serum was assessed in 128 patients with burns and in 31 normal people. The activity of histidase and arginase were established to be more informative and to more correctly reflect the function of the liver in association with the degree of burn disease, square surface and depth of the injury.

RESUMO

The effect of Bunium Persicum oil on the indices of lipid-lipoid and protein-nitrogen metabolism and of the enzymes (histidase, arginase, transamidinase, trypsin and trypsin inhibitor) reflecting the function of the liver and pancreas was studied in experiments on white rats. There was an improvement of the indices of protein nitrogen metabolism in administration of the oil alone and combined with ethanol and CCl4. At the same time the content of total lipids and cholesterol in the blood serum and in the liver increased. The activity of the enzymes of the blood serum, liver homogenates and the pancreas reflected organ specificity and changed simultaneously with alterations in the general trend of the metabolism.

RESUMO

Toxic lesion of the liver was reproduced in albino rats by way of a separate and combined intragastric administration of a 20 per cent ethanol (in doses of 0.65 ml/100 g of mass) and of a 20 per cent CCl4 oil solution (in amounts of 0.3 ml/100 g of mass), thrice in a week for 3 months. Subject to investigation were the intensity of the lipids peroxidation with reference to the diene conjugates level in the liver tissue and peroxide resistance of the peripheral blood erythrocytes, P-450 cytochromes in the supernatant fluid after precipitation of the nuclei and mitochondria, total liver protein and subcellular structures, water-soluble liver protein. The activity of the P-450 cytochrome and the content of the total and water-soluble liver protein were found to change antibathmically to the lipids oxidation intensity, especially in animals receiving both poisons. Oleum hippopheae causes a well-marked anabolic effect which manifests itself in an increased proportion of tissular and serumal proteins. It lowers the free radical oxidation of the lipids, protects the cytochromes P-450 against damage. The mechanisms of the results, obtained are discussed.
