RESUMO

Adolescents with mental disorder (residual organic conditions, psychopathy, schizophrenia, oligophrenia) were examined for hypophyseal thyroid and hypophyseal gonadal hormones in blood serum. The basic group included 98 subjects, the control one 25 mentally healthy subjects. Blood serum hormones were detected by RIA with the aid of kits of reagents manufactured in the USSR, France and Germany. The data obtained point to the presence of the latent hypothyroid condition in patients with psychopathy and schizophrenia, and in part of patients with associated residual organic brain injuries and manifest mental disorders. Comparative assessment of the content of tropic hormones of the pituitary and sex hormones in blood serum with regard to the puberty type has demonstrated that during the pubertal crisis, the study clinico-nosological groups manifested the predominance of disordered types of puberty: dysharmonious (34%), retarded (31%), and accelerated (6%). The hormonal characteristics and clinico-biochemical correlations confirm the role of hormonal disorders in the formation of psychopathological disturbances in adolescents experiencing the pubertal crisis.

RESUMO

The paper is concerned with the results of radioimmunological studies reflecting the importance of the function of the hypothalamohypophyseal-gonadal system in 29 men with the signs of organic brain lesions, against whom criminal proceedings were instituted because of exhibitionism. Among the examinees the subgroups with the hypothalamic and temporal syndromes were distinguished. The data obtained were compared to those in 25 mentally normal men and 17 examinees with residual organic brain lesions without sexual behavior abnormalities. The data derived have demonstrated the impairment of the function of the indicated system in the test subjects, associated with sexual behavior impairment in the form of exhibitionism which may form the biological basis for distortion of sexual self-consciousness.

RESUMO

The fatty acid content of thrombocytic phospholipids was assayed in 10 patients suffering from alcoholism in a state of the alcoholic abstinence syndrome, after egress from that state and following detoxication and tonic therapy. Ten donors served as control. The patients were also examined for lipid content of blood platelets before and after the treatment. It is established that in patients being in a state of the alcoholic abstinence syndrome, the fatty acid content of thrombocytic phospholipids markedly differed from control. 100% of the patients manifested a material decrease in the content of linoleic acid, dihomo- gamma-linolenic and arachidonic acids. The content of some acids belonging to the omega-3 group was also reduced. During that period, the lipid content also considerably differed from the control: the content of phospholipids noticeably decreased whereas that of free cholesterol rose. The improvement of the patients' clinical status after egress from the alcoholic abstinence syndrome was coupled with a noticeable normalization of the fatty acid content of thrombocytic phospholipids. A clear-cut tendency towards normalization of the fatty acid content was recorded only after desintoxication and tonicizing therapy. Meanwhile the lipid content considerably differed from normal even after the treatment. The changes in the lipid and fatty acid content of blood platelets in patients with alcoholism may produce disorders in prostanoid synthesis and functional properties of blood platelets, leading to the impairment of the coagulation and anticoagulation blood systems.

RESUMO

The serum levels of hypophysis-thyroid hormones, trophic hypophyseal hormones (STH and prolactin), and cortisol were studied in depressed patients. A total of 52 subjects were under investigation: 52 healthy persons (control), 27 depressed patients of which 8 had neurotic and 9 endogenous depression. The data point to a "concealed" hypothyroid state in depressed patients without overt clinical signs of endocrine disorders. The STH and prolactin hypophyseal secretion was upset that was evidenced by the decrease in these hormones blood serum contents (-74% and 37%, respectively). The cortisol blood level was also decreased though to a lesser degree (-15.4%). Different degrees of changes in STH and prolactin levels reflecting the hormones interrelationship, allowed the authors to recommend the STH/prolactin ratio as an additional diagnostic test for neurotic (0.230 +/- 0.058) and endogenous (0.0425 +/- 0.006) depression.

RESUMO

In test conducted on rats kept for 60 days on a complete standard ration that included one of the fat varieties (sunflower, cotton oils, butter, mutton fat, margarine) a hypocholesterolemic effect of the diet with sunflower oil was recorded, which was attended by an increased excretion of bile acids and cholesterol in the bile. With the rats fed on a low-protein or fat-rich rations that included sunflower oil (30 and 60 per cent, respectively) a marked change in the ratio between the bile acids and cholesterol, in favour of the latter, was noted.
