RESUMO

Regional cerebral blood flow (RCBF) was measured with cerebral aneurysms by the H2-inhalation technique during intraoperative occlusion test in 15 patients. Temporary clipping was followed by a decrease of RCBF below the critical values in most patients. Reperfusion at the removal of a clip from the internal carotid and middle cerebral artery induced a significant hyperemia (298 +/- 55 ml/100 g x min). At the same time, there was no increase in the frequency of postoperative complications due to temporary clipping. This suggests that their development is related to the duration of cerebral ischemia and the state of the blood-brain barrier.

RESUMO

In anesthetised rats, during the ischemic period a brain swelling, a decrease in oxygen tension and an increase in the blood doxygenation velocity occurred. In reperfusion, even more obvious disorders of the oxygen balance were revealed suggesting a disorder in the mitochondrial function.

RESUMO

The local cerebral blood flow, oxygen tension, local impedance and intragastric pressure were examined in 13 patients with meningiomas of the middle third of the apical sagittal sinus at various stages of surgery including those after ablation of the intrasinus node and its reconstruction. In all the patients the decompressive cranial trepanation showed a blood stream enhancement but on the meningioma side. It is concluded that the degree of disturbances of oxygenative metabolism and blood circulation after the removal and reconstruction of the intrasinus node was dependent on the variant of the sinus injury.

RESUMO

A decreased pO2 was found in the SHR rats' sensomotor area of the brain cortex in resting as well as in learning of the avoidance reflex as compared with the WKY rats. Avoidance training resulted in the decrease of pO2 in the brain tissue and the increase of common oxygen consumption. The recovery of common oxygen consumption to initial level took longer in the SHR rats. The number of the avoidance conditioned responses was greater in the SHR rats than in the WKY ones. The changes of the SHR rats' oxygen metabolism seem to be caused by morphological alterations, resulting in the peculiarities of the avoidance behaviour formation. These changes are enhanced in ageing and most obvious under emotional-motor loads in hypertensive animals.

RESUMO

The 3-month old SHR differ from the WKY rats in that the former have an increased osmolality, concentration of albumins, activity (but not the concentration) of sodium and a reduced activity of potassium. The shifts in the albumins concentration occur, mainly, on account of the amino acid phenylalanine. The gradient increase of the sodium and potassium concentration between the plasma and muscular tissue in followed by a slight hyperpolarisation of the muscle fibers, a drop in the lability and a increase in pO2. The above shifts of homeostatic parameters were not revealed in the SHR and WKY rats of 1.5 and 6.0 months of age.

RESUMO

12-week old spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats in comparison with normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats had an enhanced behavioural activity associated with exploratory motivation and a lower one associated with the fear motivation, their daily activity and the activity associated with alternating illumination were also higher whereas their defecation was lower. No difference in oxygen metabolism was found at 12 weeks of age. 20-week SHR rats had a higher common oxygen consumption and lower pO2 and blood circulation velocity in the sensomotor area of the brain cortex.

RESUMO

Blood-letting (2% of the body weight) decreased pO2 and increased the constant of oxygen consumption velocity, whereas general gas exchange remained unaltered in rats with the experimental anemia as well as in rats with chronic hemolytic anemia induced with phenylhydroine Polycythemia led to an increase in the muscle tissue pO2 and a decrease in the constant of oxygen consumption velocity against the background of enhanced O2 capacity of the blood.

RESUMO

I. m. administration of 0.2 mg/kg noradrenaline enhanced the oxidative metabolism both in the whole organism and in skeletal muscles in vivo in golden hamsters. In the hamsters adapted to cold (+4 degrees C) during 40 days the effect of noradrenaline was particularly obvious. The data obtained suggest a major energy power of the skeletal muscles as well as initiation of non-contractile heat production in them in the golden hamsters adapted to cold.

RESUMO

The oxygen metabolism (pO2, the constant of the oxygen rate consumption, the coefficient of the oxygen distribution), the activity of oxid-reduced and hydrolytic enzymes, the blood supply of the kidney cortex and medulla, were recorded. These data were compared with the erythropoietin activity of plasma in the rats with phenylhydrazine anemia and posttransfusion polycytemia. An obvious reverse interrelationship existed between plasma erythropoietin activity and value of pO2 and blood supply of the cortex. The activity of the above enzymes was practically unchanged. The data obtained suggest that erythropoietin is formed in the cortex of the kidney and its production is controlled by the degree of oxygen supply of the kidney tissue.
